  1. LDO Appreciate it. Where can we get sample pack?
  2. Ace "as opposed to "open cell" floral styrene foam, which sands kinda OK" So is Amaco and/or Renshape better?
  3. Ace http://www.hobbylinc.com/woodland-foam-sheet-1:4-x1x2-4-model-railroad-foam-st1422 Finally ordered this. Going to see if it's 'sandable' first.
  4. Dave Is that hand made or CNC? I think the Amaco foam is worth a shot. Seems like there's a blizzard of ways to make a shape on the net. We're making 'one-off's' or originals so molds are out first time around. Do use mold on final though.
  5. What are guys like Jimmy Flintstone using to make body shapes from scratch? Our scale models need to be about 1/8 scale. Anybody used this carvable foam? http://www.hobbylinc.com/american-art-clay-balsa-foam-5-lb-3x4-5x5-art-and-craft-miscellaneous-43016t
  6. Charlie http://www.hobbylinc.com/amt-1960-ford-starliner-plastic-model-car-kit-1:25-scale-1055-12 They'd sell more if you could see it. I've missed it looking through kits before. Oops! Past beddy bye time.
  7. It's on the Autoworld store Future Release tab, http://www.autoworldstore.com/product_p/amt1055.htm Box has 'Hard Top Customizing Kit'. Puts it in the league with Styline and Advanced Customizing Fords. How come I have to find these? I don't have a 600 kit stash. I don't have a workbench with a flourescent light over it. Just kidding.
  8. Pete "Rubber band, excellent ! How's that for "back in the day technology ? I like it ! " Use 'lady finger' to blow it up, It will leave cool 'wreckage'. Firecracker will probably leave a couple pieces. Cherry bomb not too good. Just here it go off and 'all gone'. That's a very nice job building the bluish Long John Dragster above here.
  9. Pete Rubber band it closed. Kits like this sometime met a grisly fate. Playing 'crash', getting set on fire or blown up with firecrackers. A glob of Testors glue burns pretty good. Puts out dense black smoke if I remember right. Might be able to motorize this one except for the drive seems a little hard to figure out. Bob
  10. Guys Good posts! I think getting one of these would 'anchor' somebody's collection. This was the first 'purpose built' drag racing car as far as I know. Before that they were modified production cars. It anchors a collection in that you can say 'Is this a drag racing car?'. If it's not okay 'What kind of racing is it?'. Altered, Road racing or what. Some model of Cobra could be connected to this for example. Enough of this, it's a rare kit:) Thanks!
  11. Model Car Fans This is a must have. Don Garlits and Mickey Thompson invented this kind of dragster. ;He took off the body, moved the engine back and located the seat behind the drive axle, a design invented that same year by Mickey Thompson.'-Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Garlits Thanks! http://galaxielimited.com/products/galaxie-limited-long-john-dragster
  12. Modelers See the first line there about "putting the Silhouette back on tour'. I think their sending a signal that while the car was stolen you can never stop the American spirit. The willingness to help other people, defending the weak and doing our best at what we aspire to. Thank you AMT!
  13. Modelers Whens AMT going to release this again? That car and it's trailer were stolen at a car show couple years ago. I consider it an insult to car enthusiasts everywhere to steal something like that. Have fun!
  14. Builders http://www.autoworldstore.com/product_p/amt1042.htm This is coming out. I'll lay off any commentary about it as sort of a Christmas present to readers of this post.:) Merry Christmas!
  15. Mark It ought to sell for $20-30 like most kits. They ought to make up any initial costs in volume. If they want to do short runs of premium kits then do so and label them like that. Don't know about a larger box double kits look like the same size box to me. They just have some heft to them. That's what I want for my modeling dollar, lots of interesting useful parts. Bob
  16. Michael That's ridiculous to pay $25 for current Piranha kit and then another $20 plus shipping for a Hemi version when it could have just been run off as a double kit. You can put me down as a hard sell when it comes to AMT kits. I would like to see custom clear parts included too like hoods and roofs when it would work. What kind of kit would get me to pay retail for it is a whole other topic. Want to see kits molded in color, either the old grey or brownish yellowish color. Most people on this planet figure colored plastic is higher quality than white. Bob
  17. Uncle Scott If anybody referred to this article on Round2 website I must of missed it. Article says AMT can build 'lost' parts from scratch. If they release kits with ALL parts ever made for the kit in ALL releases (it will fit in box) that would make me and A LOT of other people happy The last exercise in frustration was the Piranha with no Hemi version. So it would have been a double kit big deal their retailing these kits at $25-30! Money can be spent on other stuff until AMT gets with the program. Thanks
  18. Builders http://www.collectormodel.com/round2-models/2554-the-inside-scoop-on-amts-1929-ford-model-a-mod-rod-reissue/#sthash.Vm7s0K57.dpbs This is from AMT news archives May 2016. It tells exactly how they decide what parts go in kit. Thanks!
  19. Uncle Scott I don't know when it's coming out for sure. It might show up for sale at Autoworld and Hobbylinc between now and Christmas. The timing seems to be announce kit and kit in stores 2-3 months later. I think Autoworld website guy just stuck '57 Chevy link in there to keep site running smoothly. There is only a couple people at Autoworld doing a whole lot of stuff. Here's picture of display it comes with. http://www.collectormodel.com/round2-models/3175-coming-off-the-shelf-68-el-camino-done-in-derby-style/#sthash.J7w7Ix6A.dpbs Thanks! Bob
  20. Builders http://www.collectormodel.com/round2-models/3284-132-kitbash-1930-ford-model-a-roadster-pickup-part-1/#sthash.S4sWEaC3.dpbs Here's someone kit bashing this kit with a Lindberg 1/32 1930 Ford Model A Pickup. See Part 2 of his article, it shows what he's doing. These 1/32's are hard enough to build and here he is kit bashing it. Thanks!
  21. Modelers Now it gets my sign of approval! http://round2corp.com/product/customizable-street-rod-2-pack/ Molded in color! Not only that, but each car is in a separete color! Regular Guy "if you look under the back of the car and there's 18 inches between the tires that's a fast car!"-Anonymous, Southern California
  22. Craig Ford has a similar situation with it's engines. If you start with the '52 Ford and Lincoln new overhead valve engines and trace all V8's forward and stop at the Modular engine it's a mess. For every 10 people that had a go fast, one or none had a B-O-P. Now looking back, BOP's are interesting as all get out and can see why it was hard to figure out back then. As far as this model kit, Hobbylinc has the old and the new kit, anybody know the difference? Regular Guy
  23. Mr. Fischer I think it could be done.Electrical parts keep getting manufactured. They could put the kit out in sections. I just noticed that transmission looks like a manual, they could put that out as one kit. No need for it to have the electric motor, the frame and suspension would be good. Then they could put out a wheels and tires kit. I think it might be out this Christmas or next year. Regular Guy
  24. Builders http://round2corp.com/product/1967-oldsmobile-442/ This can be an entry into the labrynthian (or quagmire) world of B-O-P high performance. B O P is Buick, Oldsmobile and Pontiac. This was a tough go because 1} you had to know what you were looking for at the junkyard and 2) parts were not plentiful like they were for Ford, Chevy and Mopar's. Read this and you get a glimpse of how it got real confusing in a hurry. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oldsmobile_442 AMT has some pretty interesting BOP kits if you want to get into it. Regular Guy
  25. Builders A couple things about that built model: Lots of detail, look at the hubcaps, horn ring and clear rear brake drums. Revell probably consulted with GM on this. The front suspension looks GM and GM was first with overhead valve V8 for '49 Cadillac. Yes, big kits do take up a lot of room, not everybody can have a steel building to house all their hobbies. It would be nice though! Thanks!
