I'll count them for you. I finished the rivets and there are 1,231 of them ....really! -

Rivets done on one side. I had trouble with the Tichy Train rivets, so I cut slices off a .025 styrene rod. These may be slightly overscale, but I can't see anything smaller! Ignore the swayback look of the model, it's camera lens distortion. -

If they won't make it for us, we must make it ourself. -

Thanks for the welcome! It's SO easy to post pictures here, and I like the idea of keeping everything in the same thread as I progress. Those Archer rivets look pretty good. When I exhaust my current supply of styrene rivets, I'll have to look into those. I find your work (and albums) to be quite impressive. I'll have to consult with you as my building skills are more advanced than my knowledge of trucks in general. -

Contact Missing Link resin. They can help you out. They also appear on eBay from time to time as an F-700. I think most of the sales are on eBay, but I'm sure they would sell directly. You get the cab, hood, grille, cab steps, and the correct dash. These medium duty trucks used the dash from the PREVIOUS generation pickup. Since this generation Ford pickup hasn't been done yet, I made a dash. -

I don't know. They're little brass hinges. I bought a boxful off ebay some time ago. There were about 150 of them. they're loose, so there's no manufacturer or number I can give you. -
1977 U-Haul truck project
Repstock posted a topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
This is a project I've decided to do to take a break from my Clark gas station project. Back in the 70s I measured and made drawings of some U-Haul equipment. Now, decades later, I'm going to build one and possibly more, with diorama possibilities in mind. I mastered this F-600 cab for a well known caster. I'm going to use one of the copies he gave me for the cab. This unit will have a (scale) 212 inch wheelbase. This truck is going to show some wear and tear, but clearly still be in use. I used doll house hinges between layers of plastic to make the working rear door. I could not find an existing box that was correct, so this one will be scratchbuilt from .060 styrene. I have purchased 1000 .025 rivets (from Tichy Train group), and once the box body is ready, I'll be applying hundreds of rivets. I hope this project is of interest to you, and perhaps helpful to some. I will update as I get more done. -
Bench Rage! Have you ever lost it?

It's never happened to me...yet. -
I'm going to build a truck. I'll post it in the truck section when I get enough done. I've been living and breathing this project, and I will return to it, but I need a break for awhile. I'll post more in this thread when I get back to this project. Thank you for all the help, and all the input.

I'm leaving this project for awhile, so I'll leave you with these pics to show total progress thus far.

Got a few more things made. Here's a look at the shelving unit Here's how it all looks in place. More to come.

I stand corrected. Both opinions represented, shall we say, equally.

There are those who like to relax with the hobby and have fun. Others strive for excellence. I don't see that one is more legitimate than the other. I realize this is tongue-in-cheek, but would you enjoy a magazine with the lead story "Make your Lonestar look like a snap kit", or "Forget accuracy...we show you how to make it EASIER!" I know some "rivet counters" are too vocal with their "opinions", but isn't this doing the same thing in a different way?
-
Ed, I had a feeling you would know. Thank you! That's about as precise a response as I could hope for!
-
Can any of you gas pump experts identify these pumps? The information will help my research. (pictures borrowed from earlier in thread.)
-
I really appreciate all the input...keep it coming! I think the lesson for me here is to be a little less obsessed with everything being perfect. Obviously there was a degree of variation between stations, so I can relax about the cigarettes.
-
This station is set in the late seventies. You've given me the excuse I was looking for! I'll put them in the back as planned. I will have to remember to do that outside box, too.
-
Did the outside box hold the entire inventory, or were some cases kept inside in order to fill the box as needed?
-
You make a good point! I have no idea how the cigarettes were stored or sold. This layout was determined by the following: I have no photographic evidence of any vending machine in the showroom. All evidence suggests the cigarettes were kept in the stockroom. They were no doubt sold by the pack, but stored in cartons. Less compelling but equally true: I have no room left in the stockroom for a vending unit, and they will look cool sitting on the shelves. I never worked at a station, and I've never smoked, so I'm at a bit of a disadvantage. Perhaps others will weigh in on this, and provide clarification.
-
I finished the cigarettes that will be in the storeroom. They are not perfectly accurate, but in 1/25 scale, they should be adequate. I realize that the sides of most of the cartons won't be visible, but I did them anyway as practice. Will add more when more is done. Thanks for looking, and I appreciate all the help as well as the feedback.
