That side sculpting would be very hard to duplicate. It would be very cool, though. -

Kevin has sent me the parts, so this project is underway. What he's given me is a '73 car, so it will be a 1973 Chevelle. We can possibly base other models on this one. Kevin, thanks for sending me a light colored Olds, that will be a big help. Neither body has any warp, so that will help as well. I've got a pretty good idea where I'll make my cuts, so I'll have some progress soon. Kevin, at some point I'll need the Monte Carlo door panels, as they are the best starting point for the Chevelle. I'm doing the body first, so what kind of interior pattern would you all like to have? Did the Chevelle have the bucket seat option? I'll post pics as progress is made... -

Just thought you Chevelle lovers would want to know that I've agreed to master a 1973 Chevelle for Kevin. He's got all the raw material I need to do it. If I have questions for you experts, I will post them here. I don't have access to a real Chevelle, so I'll have to use lots of pictures and ask questions. Right now what I could use are pictures of the wheel well openings taken directly from the side, at about the height of the center of the wheel. This will minimize photographic distortion. Front to back measurements of the wheel wells won't hurt, either. If any of you have a real Chevelle, here's your chance to contribute. I'm not saying I won't work on anything else while I'm doing this, but I'll make sure you don't have to wait a year for it. If we all work together, this will be really cool! -Tom -

I've been adding little details. I hope to get the body painted this weekend. I'm doing a few projects at once, so progress has slowed. -

The Chevelle, the Laguna, the El Camino, or all of them? -

I'll give it a few days and see what car generates the most interest. I have an Olds I'll sacrifice. Between you, MAGNUM, and myself, we already have the raw material. If the Chevelle works out, I've always wanted an El Camino from this era... -

I wonder if the roof portion of the JoHan '75 (?) Cutlass might be better to use. The Chevelle kit has a big windshield issue in my opinion. The Chevelle could supply the rest of the body. You'd need a '77 Monte Carlo for dash, and interior. I suppose you could use the JoHan Cutlass promo style Chassis foe ease of casting. Should there be an opening hood, or should those mods be left to the builder? On my Laguna, I used a modified firewall from the '70 Monte Carlo, and the chassis from the '69 Cutlass. I had to dig into my glass boxes to find a windshield for it because I had to fix that portion of the Chevelle kit. The Chevelle kit body and the '75(?) Cutlass body handle the greenhouse area differently, and I can't decide which one looks more accurate. If I use the Cutlass for this area, it would be a simple matter to find "glass" if you didn't want to use vacform glass. The whole thing seems doable, but the Chevelle and Laguna not only have different "faces", but the seat patterns are different, too. I trimmed my Laguna with all the chrome it could carry...wheel lip moldings, side chrome, etc. Should the resin version be trimmed out, or basic? I'll listen to all opinions. -

I agree. Tom helped me out with a 1960 Chevrolet project pictured here. The top was from him. Awesome guy! -

The Laguna will be detailed to about this level. The Monte didn't turn out quite as crisp as I'd hoped, but it'll do. -

The Monte Carlo above is done, except for the addition of whitewalls and stock wheelcovers, cast by Kris, no less! I'm working on the Laguna again, I'm installing the interior tonight. If you look at the Laguna kit windshield from above or below, it is severely misshapen. So is the windshield portion of the body. I fixed that and used a different windshield. If I master one, would you rather see the Laguna front end, or the Chevelle? -
If I gave the impression I was offended, I'm the one who will apologize. I have very thick skin, and I don't get offended from message boards. On this thread, I don't think anyone has even TRIED to be offensive. I'm very protective of my family, but I'm not going to get bent out of shape over models. After I die (hopefully not BEFORE), all the models I've slaved over all these years will probably be purchased in a yard sale and destroyed by firecrackers. If there's something that needs said, by all means say it. I think most of the misunderstandings come from the fact we're communicating in writing instead of in person. In short, no offense taken, and I appreciate all of you taking time from your day to look at my stuff. Hopefully I'll have something to show soon.

Not only is it something I've never seen before, but it's well done. This would be one I'd love to see in person! Imagination meets ability!

I've had a lot of help on this from people who used to work for Clark (I never did), and a few have stressed to me how much time they spent mopping and cleaning. I did dirty the floor behing the furnace and water heater, and places a mop won't reach, it just doesn't show very well. I do have a two bay Texaco I'll get to someday that is going to be more "used" looking. I love weathering, and model structures that look used, but I've seen some that look more like they should be condemned rather than just used.

In between other projects, I've been working on the station, but I don't want to post until a certain subassembly is done, and I can be sure it works!
-
As of late, I think it's equal parts the room getting smaller, and me getting larger!
-
No, but I'm about ready to dive back in. I think I've figured out a way to have working flourescent lights inside, but I'll have to build it to see if it works right. Stay tuned, it's coming...

If I might pile on a bit. The MPC grilles look much better, too. The Revell '77 GMC grille openings are too big, and the grille is too tall from top to bottom. Their '75 Chevy grille doesn't even have the right amount of openings, and depicts no truck grille I've ever seen. MPC's grilles look much better. Now that's not to say I don't have nits with MPC's trucks, but between the two, I'd take MPC.

1973 GMC coming eventually

This is the modified portion: The rest is the same as the original Chevy grille. When I cut out the center of the Chevy grille, the surround broke. You can see a piece of Bare Metal Foil at the center bottom of the surround. -
UPS Parcel Truck

Chuck, you've hit upon a point that has made this project so hard to research. UPS crushes all their trucks when they're used up, they never sell them. If I could find an older truck in a junkyard or something, this would have been a lot easier, but I'm told that situation never occurs. I like the brown wheels, too, but I don't know where I got the idea in my head that they WERE brown!
