1963 ford n 600 stubnose

First of all, thank you! If the casting is smooth and shiny, that's all Jeff! When I sent it to him, the grille was pretty much ready, but the body was in primer, and needed pinholes filled, and a lot of general smoothing. Looks like Jeff got my lump of carbon looking like a diamond! -
What's the story behind your user name/avatar?

While it's probably obvious, I'll make it official: Replica stock is my preferred building style, and the avatar is random, I just like the look of it. -

I would have liked that. It seems most of my friends live in Michigan now. Good thing we have these message boards, they make distance irrelevant! -

They will be sold through Missing Link when ready. I can't speak for them, but if my experience is any indication, if you want to do a Century for them, they'll do everything in their power to help you make it happen. I'd love to build a Century! -

If anyone would like to assist in this project, I need the following from any '77 Monte Carlo kit: The outside mirrors, an interior pan, and a dash. We're going for multiple versions of this year Chevelle. Thanks to those who have already assisted! Much appreciated! -

Here's some more pics of my progress. Please ignore optical distortion that makes the model look like a swayback in some pictures. Also, I don't know what's up with my focus, but some of these could be a bit clearer. Here's the front end: Here's the step that will help in mounting the front bumper Here's the rear end: Here's the step for the rear bumper : -

Closed. Since the horizontal bars stick out a bit further than the vertical ones, I had to make the grille rather than use a parts box item. This was the only way to get it to look half way decent. I've done open ones before, but not with a pattern this fine. It probably also helps the caster to have it closed. -

I'm slowly getting there. Here's the front end laid together. The space between the bumper and the grille will be part of the body for easier painting. Also, the grille is a loose fit to allow for paint buildup and plating thickness. -

Well THAT didn't take long! Looks real nice. I'm glad it's going to see the light of day! -
This is just my experience, but a painted a Monte Carlo with Duplicolor primer, paint, and clear and it came out great. I painted a Cougar with the same combo (the clear was a different can), and the clear would not dry. It was tacky almost 3 weeks and 24 hrs in a dehydrator later. Obviously, Duplicolor clear lacquer over enamel is just asking for it. Just my 1/50 of a dollars' worth!

interesting mold shrinking technique

Anyone want to try this with the 1/20 Econoline kit? -
It looks like my fluorescent light idea might work. I was afraid they wouldn't cast enough light. I used a piece of .100 styrene for the ceiling, and cut slots for clear acrylic square tube. I masked a thin section of the square tube, then painted it. The protruding square tube represents the fluorescent light base. Over this I will lay a clear acrylic rod for the "bulb". The light shines through the slot (as in the picture) and illuminates the bulb (not added yet). Above the ceiling I will have a sealed off compartment containg a roll of LEDs. My concern was that the slots were too thin to give enough light, but it actually worked out pretty well. As I add more I'll post more pics. By the way, the front small lights will work, too, they're just blocked off from the light source in this setup. I also have "fluorescent" lights in the office and restrooms.

I have entered many contests (well, not so much any more), but I have never built a model for that purpose. When show time comes, I'll just grab whatever hasn't been shown before and enter it. I entered the BSAC Columbus show primarily to help the show. I figured the more models were displayed, the more successful the show would be. I guess I build for myself, but I don't take it too seriously (well, seriously enough to purchase two showcases, but let's not cloud the issue with the truth). I enjoy doing it, and it satisfies my need to do something creative. I only wish my sons would show the slightest interest...

I've been on eBay a long time. I've gotten 3 Ertl CO-4070A Transtars for $50.00 or less each, and I got a JoHan '70 Roadrunner for $45.00. All these were unbuilt.

Give me an outer diameter and I'll see what I've got. I've got several in-between sizes. -
Nice looking car, great colors

I like it! That MPC roofline looks so much better to my eyes than the AMT Novas of the same body type. That's a real pleasing car to look at, it's easy on the eyes!

Very glad to see this underway again. I work at a wastewater plant, and we've got a lot of old buildings. One of them is very similar to what you're doing. It had a huge metal spiral staircase that must have been fabricated in the '30s. I really like what you're doing here.

Actually, I don't own an airbrush. Everything I do is rattle can. The '77 has a brush painted interior using Humbrol enamels. I can shoot a light coat of Glosscote over the Humbrol (when dry), and it's very hard to tell it's not sprayed.

I don't know why I didn't consider that possibility. You've got to feel pretty good about the way things have been going for the Spartans lately! This is a modified Wheels of Fire '77.
