  1. I agree that the kit will no doubt be great, I have a fund set aside to purchase multiple copies. It's the rivet counter thing that bothers me. EVERYONE is a rivet counter, it's just where you draw the line on what to accept and what not to accept. Unless there ARE people who are perfectly content with Palmer kits. If a person had a Palmer kit, and wasn't driven to complain (assuming Palmer was still around), I don't know how much I could respect them as a modeler. The disagreement it seems is where to draw the line. On that we will all NEVER agree. What bothers me may not bother you, etc. I don't know why this rivet counter thing keeps coming up. There's no way to prove an opinion, no way to resolve it. Perhaps it's just venting. THAT I can understand.
  2. In the same vein (cheeky, that is), let the rivet counters build Tamiya, and "real" modelers can build Palmer. If we comlpain about Palmer, they'll all stop making automotive models...Did that happen?
  3. As one who had the Buddy L station, I will say this: You can use it in 1/25 scale, but I think some dimensions were "compacted" to make it a more manageable size. The bay doors are narrower than any real ones I've encountered, the restroom doors are the same (though in real life, they were not wide). It's a great looking station, I just think they fudged some dimensions so it wouldn't be too big. The differences offended my eye, which led me to sell it some time ago. I'd rather make my own anyway.
  4. Dupli-Color Import Auto Spray 8801542 Creme. No Clear. Thank you for the compliment.
  5. It's a big station in 1/25 scale
  6. I've won, on two different occasions, mint unbuilt Ertl CO-4070A cabovers on eBay. Both were buy it now, and I just happened to stumble upon them moments after they were listed. Both times the buy it now was $25.00.
  7. I just bought 'em for the goodies. I have no intention of using the building portion. It's gatorboard for me! When I was a kid, there was a Texaco station at the end of the street. Leo's Texaco. It was a design "B" building. Diagonally across the street was a Sinclair. Down the street was a Phillip's 66. In the opposite direction was a Humble station. Past the Phillip's a ways was a Shell and Sunoco. None of them exist today except the Phillip's 66, which is now a used tire store. I suppose what I'm doing with the models to some degree is trying to hang on to a piece of all that. My kids can't miss what they never knew, but I suspect a lot of you guys do.
  8. Here you go. The Texaco issue. That metal "paneling" you can see inside the bay is just how all the interior garage walls were covered in the '60s Texaco near me.
  9. Ah, much better!
  10. Thanks. Your avatar is a bit...unsettling...
  11. Is design "A" showing now?
  12. Should be fixed.
  13. I'm thinking of building a Texaco station, but I'm having trouble settling on a design. They all have pros and cons. Which design do you prefer? Design A Iconic, but kind of done to death. Design B A little different, still has iconic elements, but hard to research. Design C Can not be used pre-60s, but would be different, more one-of-a-kind.
  14. Work like this transcends genres. With a handle like Repstock, you can imagine I don't build these kinds of models. I have really enjoyed watching this come together, what beautiful craftsmanship. My hat is off to you, what a great build. I'll keep watching...
  15. WOW! I'm glad I decided to post this build. I had no idea it would interest so many. It's been great hearing from everyone, and I've enjoyed "meeting" people who have helped with research. This is quite the positive group! I have two cars I want to get painted while it's still warm, and another master to produce, so I will just be picking at this for awhile. If I do something worthy of your notice, I'll be sure and post. Thanks for the support and encouragement, everyone!
  16. There is a station near me that appears to be built to these specs exactly, except for just two bays. With these becoming available, am I to conclude that I MUST build this? Such riches in reference materials I rarely see. Hmmmm.... By the way, If someone else also wants to build this, I can fill in the details concerning the interior layout.
  17. Yes, it's scratch built. see here: http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Repstock/library/Step%20Van?sort=3&page=1 Thanks for the kind words!
  18. Please forgive me as I know you're just test fitting, but isn't that paned window upside down? While you probably are just test fitting, If it somehow found it's way into the finished build, and I had said nothing, I would be angry with myself. As many posts are misinterpreted, I am taking pains to make my motive for pointing this out very clear. It's a great looking build so far!
  19. I kind of like this angle.
  20. I made this shed for out back, but I think I overdid the weathering quite a bit. I'll probably save it for another use. Finally, I made a phone booth. I found the actual specs and dimensions on line. It is LED lit. The door is hinged and works as well.
  21. I finished the restrooms. This station is at it's prime, so no filthy, disgusting restrooms here. Mens Ladies
  22. i added the "bulbs" to the lights. This is the final effect. Not completely convincing, but not too bad.
  23. I think we've all seen this in real life in one form or another...
