  1. that's cool, Derick - I hope she has fun with it. My wife builds models too (as do most of my kids). It's a nice hobby to do together
  2. thanks, guys Francis, the paint it lacquer nail polish thinned down with lacquer thinner
  3. Thank you all for the kind words. Larry, it is all BMF. I used the regular chrome sheet. If I were to do it again, I'd do the ultra bright chrome so it would match the kit chrome a little more.
  4. thanks, guys - love that picture!
  5. Thanks for that info, fellas. I am not a Corvette guy, so I just don't know about that stuff, but I did enjoy building this. Maybe someday I'll have to get the other release with the other hood.
  6. Thanks, guys - I appreciate the comments
  7. Bruce, Gen read your comment and got a big smile on her face. Thanks for that! Oh, and she says, "Thank you"
  8. Thanks, Bruce. You should have heard the conversation between my wife and me when I told her that I was going to repaint it, but it was still going to be the same paintjob. Her: You're stripping the paint so you can paint it like it is now? Me: Yeah Her: You're taking the time to strip the paint and you got new decals just so you can paint it just like it looks now? Me: Yeah Her: Why? Me: I think it'll look better painted Her: And it's going to look just like it does now? Me: Yeah For some reason, I don't think she quite got it...
  9. Thank you, Bart and Bruce. When I first got the body, I was a bit hesitant. But I am happy with how it came out, considering how messed up it was.
  10. thank you, Bill and Adam. I appreciate it
  11. Thank you, Bart and Derick. This is my third time trying to be on this site and I'm hoping third time's the charm. I'm lucky that most of the family likes to build (well, the oldest daughter seems to have stalled on her Ghost Rider vinyl figure...). Good luck working on the nephews - I hope they dig it and get into it as much as my kids have. Thanks alot, David - it was a fun build
  12. Thanks, Mike - poor wording on my part. You're right, the windows don't roll down - they sorta slide up and down. And yes, the front wheels are poseable.
  13. Okay, my nine-year old daughter designed and built this one. She imagined that she was driving for RPM and got to drive the #43 car (that's her favorite number and Richard Petty is her favorite driver). She figured that she likes cartoons, so she used a Cartoon Network decal sheet. It's pink because she's a girl, but she wanted the blue on the wheels because it's a Petty car. She picked a Ford Thunderbird because, "Dad, Richard Petty Motorsports drives Ford... Duh!"
  14. Thank you very much
  15. Thank you, Greg - It could well be a '67 for all I know. The box said '63, but then I've seen other kits where the box had a mistake. Thanks for that input The first part of the build was a piece of cake. When it comes time to put it all together, take your time and be patient - it took me 10 minutes to get the chassis and body together just going back and forth between the back of the car and the front of the car (gotta get that little pin in the hole in back - now I've gotta get the carb around the brake cylinder - oh, back to that rear pin again - and back and forth). Still, it's a well-built model and I did enjoy it alot.
  16. Bart, this was the first kit my wife bought me after I had my accident. It was her idea to use model-building to help me get some dexterity in my hand and fingers. At the time, I figured that Lindberg = few pieces and easy to do. When we got home and I opened it up, I told her that we're going to need to wait on this as there was no way I could do that kit at the time. It'd been sitting in the hobby room since then and I finally decided to give it a go. It's a nice little kit and I loved all the extra little things about it - I'm thinking that if I get another one, I'm building one with a removable targa top...
  17. Bart, the body, engine, and trim pieces all came from the Hurst Hemi Under Glass kit. The hood was molded shut on that and I didn't open the hood up on this, so no under-hood shot on this one, bud. . I've now got 9 or 10 Petty cars in my collection with probably another 7 or 8 to go. Bart, if you do end up doing the '65 Satellite, I'll be sure to check out pics - I'd love to see it
  18. Thank you, all. This was a fun little kit and I really enjoyed building this one
  19. Thanks, guys - I wanted to see if I could make what appeared to be a turd (relatively) into something nicer. Besides, I don't think I'd ever built a snap-together kit before and wanted to try something new.
  20. Sorry, I forgot to post the under-hood shot Bart, I have started doing my own decals for some builds - I'm on a limited budget for my hobby, so this is one way that I can do other things without paying alot more
  21. Thanks, guys Actually, Bart, I'd stopped posting on here because I got tired of all the antagonistic posts I kept reading. I was getting ticked off at comments I'd read where others were degrading something someone had posted. So, I stopped posting on here at all. I decided to give it another go and try again. I'm hoping things have changed a bit. It's nice to hear from you, man - I hope you're doing well
  22. thanks for the comments, everyone - I'm glad y'all liked it
  23. I built this as an homage to Richard Petty's drag racing days. It would have been nice to have an actual '65 body to do this with, but all I could get was a '66, so it's more of a tribute car. About the only pieces that I used from the kit were the engine block and heads, the body, and the trim. Here she is:
  24. I started this AMT Dodge Daytona planning on building it one way, but I changed my mind part-way through and decided to make it into a simulation of Neil Castles' car. The rollcage and a few other things are not accurate, so that's why I called it a simulation. I made the decals myself and kit-bashed and scratch built everything else that turned the kit into this:
  25. Here's my Cadillac. This was done box-stock. I had originally planned on doing some things to it, but it went together so easily and I thought it looked good as is, so I ended up not doing anything extra to it. Paint is Krylon Short cuts Hot Pink. Here's a shot from over the rear deck: Finally, here it is with the top on:
