Information needed on some Revell Chevy pickup kits
Fabrux replied to Fabrux's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
See, I was wondering if the snap kits have anything in common with the glue ones; the glass and hoods look like they might interchange. The Blazer-based kits are also different than the tow trucks. -
Is this the worst box art build ever?

Ugh, raised panel lines are the bane of 1:2500 scale Star Trek modelling. -
I have noticed that older decals don't seem to like anything touching them, especially anything plastic. I always try to sandwich them in the instruction sheet or with some paper in a page protector rather than a photo album.

Yeah, the twin-pack truck is the same as the HOT ROD boxed version, just trying to figure out which came first (chicken or egg?). The decals look to be white or grey and the same as the latest issue with the yellow truck, which has black decals. -
GM Truck Suspension Compatibility

Good to know! Replacing a 65-96 Ford 2WD chassis with a 97-03 version for a 1:1 build seems like a better idea all the time. -
Thanks for the info, Bill! Sounds like GM did the same thing as Ford during the switch to square headlamps, only a year later. Curiously, my 1980 Chevrolet brochure only shows square lights on all the trucks, even though they aren't all Silverados...

In the process of researching for an article on Revell GM pickup kits, I've come across a few kits on which I have little information other than box art. I'm hoping that some people here have the kits I'm after so I can get kit numbers, year of issue, and idea of box contents, etc. This is the only picture I can find of this kit: It looks to be the same as the CHiPs truck, but I have no idea which kit was first. I'm assuming it is molded in tan and black but can't confirm. Would also like a bigger picture, kit number, and year of issue. The box art suggests this kit came before the CHiPs truck, but not sure. Again, similar to CHiPs truck, looking for better picture, year of issue, kit number. I have a description written suggesting this was also possibly a Blazer, can't confirm. Any other Blazer kits besides this one? There's also the Stomper: Would like a better picture and what colour(s) molded in. Finally, I'm looking for more info on this twin pack: The Chevy kit might be a separate issue; if so, I have yet to come across one and would like some info on it!

GM Truck Suspension Compatibility

Here we have a 65-66 cab with a 73-87 bed; talk about confusing! Makes you wonder if the chassis is a 67-72 Thanks for the replies, gents! Looks like I'll be trying to fit a 64/65 chassis, converting the rear axle to leaf springs. -
I came across this little gem: And this seemingly polar opposite twin pack: The twin pack I found during a Google image search. I couldn't access the original image (PB is blocked at work) and the original page is supposedly a thread on this very messageboard but the link is broken. I would like to find out more information about this as the Chevy pickup looks to have different decals than any other issue.

GM Truck Suspension Compatibility

Looking on the LMC online catalogues the front suspension looks to be almost identical from 1963 up to 1987; not sure if that is the case. -
GM Truck Suspension Compatibility

I'm trying to figure out what years are compatible with the suspension on GM pickups. For example, GM used the same rear suspension on 2WD trucks from '60-'72 or so. Is the front suspension similar from 1960 all the way to 1988? Are there differences? I know Ford used the same TIB front suspension setup from 1965 all the way to 1996. I'm trying to determine if the whole chassis or even just the front suspension from an AMT 1960 C10 or Revell 1964/65 C10 would be an accurate replacement for the Revell 1977 C10... -
I have a bunch of Star Trek models, either 1:1000 or 1:2500 scale. Have yet to build any, however...

I have encountered yellowish glue on old built-ups before and usually it will flake off if you start cutting at it with a knife. YMMV.

Wow, clear lenses really make that grille pop! Do you know what kit you grabbed the lenses from? -

Never having sold anything on eBay, can someone please explain to me what the big deal is about potential negative feedback? Do you get shut down for six months if you get one negative remark or something? -
I only ever barbecue with propane. Works fine for me... *shrug*

That one with the headlight covers looks to be a styling buck? Black windows and no turn signals...

Um.....guess I forgot about this one. My club's annual show is coming up this month. One of the themes is 110 years of Ford and, seeing as I'm the Ford guy of the club, I figured I should probably have a Ford finished to enter. Pretty much have the paint finished on this one, now on to the details... -

Here's the breakdown for me: I live in Canada. Due to this apparent crime twist of fate, shipping for items purchased online is, quite simply, absolutely ridiculous. This is not simply due to the price of shipping (excessive) but the long wait times as parcels languish in customs. To get something shipped to my door from the US I'm going to have a four week wait, minimum. Thankfully there is a huge cottage industry in US/Canada border towns that accept parcels for Canadians that live near the US border so they can save on shipping costs and wait times. I live 1.5 hours from one of these border towns (Calais, ME) and head down there frequently. Seeing as how I have to make a special trip to pick up my parcels, I usually wait until either a] I have a few parcels waiting or b] my wife has a craving for certain foods only sold in the US. My LHS also happens to be 1.5 hours away, but in a different direction than the US border. The guy that runs the LHS runs it out of his home, so he doesn't have to worry about the overhead usually associated with a usual store. He's a member of the local modeling club also, so he comes to the meetings and usually brings the latest releases with him so we can inspect the contents and decide to purchase. He builds automotive, some sci-fi, and armour so there's always something interesting to look at that either expands your horizons or reinforces your chosen subject material (Have you ever looked at an armour kit? So many little parts!). I also consider him a friend and we chat for hours about this, that, and the other thing whenever I stop in to his shop. I much prefer the experience of visiting his shop than shopping online for kits. I have pretty much limited myself to purchasing OOP kits online and new releases from my LHS. He is part of the Revell exclusive sellers group or whatever and gets their new releases a few weeks before anywhere else. His prices are usually the same as buying online + shipping, so there is rarely a better price online. I consider myself fortunate that my LHS happens to be in the same city (on the same road, even) as my employer's head office. Club meetings are also in the same city so I can work at the head office on meeting days, stop in the LHS, and attend meetings and be reimbursed for my driving expenses. Not everyone is so fortunately but I have never understood people that always try to negotiate on price based on what it cost for them to drive around. If you own a vehicle, paying for gas is something you can't avoid and you know you're going to have to fork over for it so stop using that as an excuse.
