Many US EBay Sellers Will Opt In For International Shipping Soon
Fabrux replied to Johnny K's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I haven't purchased a kit from a US seller on eBay and had it shipped to my door in a couple years now. Being as close as I am to the US border, I take advantage of package depots that accept parcels for Canadians so that we only have to pay domestic US shipping charges. Saves a bundle, you better believe it! Yes, I still have to pay the sales tax on the purchase price of the item, but 13% tax (here in NB) on a model kit is a lot cheaper than getting it shipped to my door. I do the same with car parts as well; in one case I saved over $500 than buying local! -
Need some dodge and plymouth info
Fabrux replied to greymack's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I saw one of these little things tooling around Thompson, MB one day. Would love to get a hold of one if only for the WTF factor. Maybe swap in an SRT4 engine in one. -
I think Scott started carrying them a couple months ago. I remember him bringing some paints to a club meeting before I headed to MB for my rotation at the start of July. I don't think he has all the colours listed on his website but if you fire him an email with what colours you want he'll send you an invoice.

Two cars, two ways to fix
Fabrux replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is my poor little car, as it currently sits: Half white, half blue. It made more sense to me to get all the good body panels on it and THEN prep/paint. But, with my family and my waistline continuing to grow it's not really practical for me anymore. Now the next owner will have to deal with painting. -
Plymouth Superbird front end material
Fabrux replied to Bastardo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think one of the biggest weathering errors I've noticed to date was on a late 90s Ford pickup that had the bedsides all rusted up. It was a stepside, which had fibreglass bed sides from 1992 on up! -
A neutrino walks into a bar, orders a drink, and asks how much. The bartender replies: "For you, no charge!" A farmer is having trouble with his chickens, they won't lay any eggs. So, the farmer hires a physicist to look into his problem. The physicist checks things over, makes some calculations, then comes back to the farmer and says "I have a solution to your problem, but it only works for spherical chickens in a vacuum."

NOS Barn Finds - Sale Is Next Month

There's even a couple of promos in there! -
We have a drive-in here in Sussex, which is about a 45 minute drive for me. It is based a campground and seems to be doing pretty good. It is only open during camping season as our winters simply wouldn't support a drive-in theatre. Not sure what their equipment is like but they show all the latest movies so I'm assuming they've upgraded to digital?

Anybody doing a Fox hatch conversion ?
Fabrux replied to 57peppershaker's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Ha, this is kinda funny. For years and years all we had available were Fox hatchs and everyone was converting to notchs. Now we have a new notch kit and folks want to convert to hatch! -
That's about what I figured. The fun part now will be getting stickers/decals made with the company logo...

Every year there is a flea market held in a double ball field in a town about a 45 minute drive from me. There are always all kinds of things there and you'll never know what you'll come across. Browsing this flea market this year has rekindled an interest I've always had in older metal Tonka toys. Both my parents work at a local line construction company and I managed to get a good deal on a late-70s era bucket truck that was originally labelled for Bell System. The Bell stickers are all gone now and it shows expected wear and tear from being played with for almost 40 years. My question to those folks on here that may know a thing or two about older Tonka toys if it would be a good idea to disassemble this truck and paint it up in their company's colours? I intend to give it to them to display at their office when I'm done with it, either a simple cleaning or full-out restore. From the research I've done so far this particular truck doesn't seem to be all that rare or valuable, thus my inquiry.

Ford DOHC V8 in 1:25 scale?
Fabrux replied to Fabrux's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks! I'll keep an eye out for that Olsonite Eagle kit. -
That looks to be the same sort of track arrangement that a lot of geotech drills have for their carrys. There are basically two rubber tracks with metal strips running between them. The wheels and drive sprocket run in the gap between the rubber bits. Usually four rubber-tired wheels and a drive sprocket at the front on each side. There was some discussion a while back someone found another one of these curious D-100 rigs and the consensus was that Moebius's Lost in Space buggy would be the best donor for the track setup, although those tracks are a fair bit wider than what you'd see on anything other than a snow groomer. One of the more common units around these parts anyway is the Bombardier Muskeg. You can see a better view of the tracks here and this is a good view of a dual-wheel arrangement. And this is what it looks like without a track.

I'm inspired by the T-5R Martini Racing Mustang to build an early Mustang with an Indy-spec Ford DOHC V8 under the hood: I know most Indy kits are 1:20 scale but I'm wondering if there are any 1:25 scale kits with a Ford engine that would serve as a good donor?

Sometimes the warning can take a while to go through the DNS servers. I haven't seen any warnings since the site has been back.

Whats the most you would spend on a model.?
Fabrux replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
One of my bucket list model items is to build the 1:350 scale Enterprise-A with all the detail goodies (shuttlebay, arboretum, lights, etc). I fully expect that build to cost upwards of $300 if not more. -

Fabrux replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The most I have paid for a model was around the $55 range for an AMT '63 Ford F-100 kit. The most expensive model in my collection in terms of purchase price so far is a Moebius Lonestar, but that was a birthday present from some friends. That being said, my wife spent $70 on a cloth diaper a few months back so I feel justified in spending at least that on a model at some point. Also, true to the modelling world, that diaper is being re-issued next month and will sell for $20.
