  1. I did have an ESCI/Ertl co-branded model of a BMW something-or-other; ended up trading it away.
  2. I am a big alternate history buff and have stumbled upon a message board dedicated to alternate historical events and the stories that result from them. I thought it might be an interesting exercise to apply an alternate event to the automotive world: What if General Motors had purchased American Motors instead of Chrysler?
  3. I wouldn't mind seeing shots of the two kits side-by-side. I have seen it mentioned elsewhere that the Esci Jeep kits have the most accurate wheels for the CJ, although not having chrome is a bit of a downer.
  4. I wonder how close in size they are to the Monogram kits? I have a spare Monogram kit that I could use the under hood compartment and engine from...
  5. I have noticed this starting to happen on my Android tablet, but not on my desktops using Chrome.
  6. Does anyone know if this is the same kit as the Monogram CJ-7? I know Esci had some collaboration with Ertl back in the day, not sure if this kit may have been shared with Monogram or if it was their own tooling...?
  7. Your best bet actually would be to use the Monogram kits. Find a Chevy kit to get the correct body and a GMC Jimmy kit to give you the GMC grille and bush guard. Latest Chevy issue: GMC Jimmy:
  8. According to my feedback my first transaction was dated 20 January 2013. The seller is still active, and his current listings are mostly all models (although not automotive). Back then I was trying to find as many Ford pickup kits as I could so I imagine the first transaction was for one of those. I do remember that for the first few transactions I printed the auction page for some reason, but then stopped.
  9. Model King is still doing releases with Revell, which means the dune buggy and dirt bike kits could see a return someday!
  10. Revell used to make all kinds of neat combo kits with wet bikes, dirt bikes, dune buggies, etc. Tool up the trailer and the cargo and you can satick it with any number of tow vehicles (Mustand, Datsun pickups, Chevy pickups/vans, etc)
  11. I would, don't know about you.
  12. Make a base D9, then all the attachments to make a D9R, D9T, D9H, D9XW, D9N, etc.
  13. The reason this kit is selling so well is because of the huge strip mining industry in Germany. Lots of folks see these things every day and want to build one. That being said, I would think that a nice excavator kit might sell well as they are EVERYWHERE on just about every construction site you will see. Model kit manufacturers, however, need to be able to get the most out of a tooling in order to invest in it. Yes, Moebius made a huge investment in the Lonestar, but look how far they're making that investment stretch: the Prostar is essentially the same kit with a different hood. Being able to make minor adjustments to a tooling to create a new version is key. Should a manufacturer tool up, say, a 30-ton excavator, they may be able to get away with using the same tracks as they don't change much between manufacturers. Different bodies, say a CAT, Komatsu, Hitachi, might make the tooling dollars stretch. All the implements would be interchangeable, too. But that doesn't mean it'll happen.
  14. Never offered as a wagon, I don't believe.
  15. No problems on Chrome, but then again I have Adblock installed as well. On my Android tablet, I get the ads but haven't had any issues with the back buttons (yet).
  16. I just the box art on these sets.
  17. I've always wondered why I never saw more Mustang/Fox swaps around. I have seen cars that were swapped for all the go-fast bits but rarely body panels.
  18. Are you looking to build a version of this engine? PTX makes a 1:24 scale version of the 337 truck engine.
  19. When I was a wee, impressionable lad in the early '90s my then-uncle and godfather worked for a local manufacturing company that built and shipped components to the US (he was the truck driver). He would routinely carry the item down and come back empty. The company ended up getting a large contract for several items in Texas and my uncle got the idea to start bringing back cars. One such car was a 1967 Fairlane 500 two door. I have many fond memories of spending time at my uncle's house and playing around the car, watching the restoration progress in its various stages. Unfortunately, life happens and my aunt divorced my uncle after my grandmother died and I never really saw him or his car much after that. This evening I was browsing Facebook and a friend of mine posted a picture of a 67 Fairlane a friend of his was building; I recognized my godfather's car immediately! I contacted the now-owner (my godfather's cousin) and talked about the car and went through his build album. Turns out he bought the car in 2011 and has been building it ever since, taking advantage of the huge classic car restoration market that has sprung up that wasn't available in the 90s. He is doing the car justice and I can't wait to see it finished!
  20. I have that Escort kit in an AMT box. Which is weird as that style Escort was never sold in North America. The kit has both LHD and RHD dashes.
  21. I'm scaring myself thinking about how much I'd pay to buy what is in that picture... Also, not sure how well that bed will line up with the cab as they are two different manufacturers (bed is MPC).
  22. You would be surprised. Internal shipping rates for Canada Post are more expensive than shipping to/from the US. I purchased a kit from a seller in BC; it was cheaper to have it shipped to my US PO box than to have it shipped to my door. And that is within the country!
  23. Check out my history thread: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=70067
  24. If current Model King releases are any indication expect the pickup to be around $33.
