  1. The MPC Dodge Crazy Van which I was intending to build when Van's got voted #1 has a drag option with two V8's with manual transmissions mounted side by side connected to the rear axle by chain (from an engineering PoV the setup has a lot of problems but I won't go into it here). I was thinking of still using the kit but with a pair of sixes replacing the V8s. No matter. I have plenty of other ideas, at least one of which is sensible, roadworthy and will fit under a stock bonnet.
  2. Wow. Thanks for all the nice words guys but I need to make more stuff for the interior having see those pics. Bruce, did your auxiliary tank once have another purpose igniting dried organic matter tightly rolled in paper tubes?
  3. Thanks dude. It's a box of soft drinks - 375ml bottles. OK, it's actually a box of 1/35 1 litre water bottles with the caps painted red. They work just fine as 1/25 375ml bottles. It's meant for a Leopard Tank and the script is in arabic which is prolly why you can't read it.

  5. Dam-n, there goes my plan for claiming a twin crank V12 is in fact two in line sixes very close to each other!
  6. Will there be a limit on how many inline engines we can put in the one vehicle?
  7. Mike, the detail on that Porsche is amazing. If it wasn't for the wash in the panel gaps i'd swear it was a 1:1. Erik, those look great. Here's one I missed. Winner of Scale Cannonball #3 had a Fujimi Nissan S20 in it (same one that was in the red oxide 32 Drift Rod above). 2010-11-11 at 16-12-55 by Fred Maillardet, on Flickr

  10. Italeri Bugatti Royale Coupe Napoleon has a 12.7 litre straight 8. That should do the trick. Or maybe I can remove one bank of cyinders from an AMT Allison and jam it across a Fiero?
  11. That's why I get enthused, start, and then do nothing until late September...
  12. You're a sick man Russell. Well done, i'm impressed.
  13. Both looking good there Bruce & Erik. Having decaled the Pro Lux I applied the second layer of clear today. If I can get down to the shed tomorrow i'll wedge it all together and take some pics. The graphics have really brightened it up...
  14. Cleared the Caprice today. Decals will go on after a bit of a polish and then more clear. Work is progression nicely on the interior and the chassis/floorpan is almost completed. As far as comments made elsewhere regarding stopping every 20 minutes to gas up go, "Obviously" the entire trunk is (internally baffled) fuel tankage. Should be good for at least three quarters of an hour now... However, as I said earlier, this year i'm not overthinking it and am just stuffing a huge engine into a big comfy car. In previous years i've logiced it out and have scratchbuilt a chassis and independent suspension and fully plumbed 800 litre supplementary fuel systems and stuffed a NASCAR chassis under a small Japanese car. This year however I couldn't be bothered with all that. Next year? Well I do have the MPC twin engined Crazy Van kit in the stash and a plan to re-engineer it so the rear suspension and transmission would actually work...
  15. Vans.
  16. Good work Dave. Here's the Pro Lux sitting on its wheels. I'm waiting on a warm day so I can clear it. Pro Lux WIP 1-11-17 by Fred Maillardet, on Flickr She rides a bit high but it's a tall engine and I wanted to keep it under cover.
  17. I may be jumping the gun but here's some inspiration for the up coming Van-ball.
  18. I can't remember Joe. It was a long time ago. Looking at the underside photo though there appears to be a transverse cut under the seats and the front subframe also looks to be slid forwards slightly. I'd therefore conclude I shortened it by cutting out a slice and then when it would fit into the body I fine tuned the wheelbase by moving the subframe forwards (i'm of the "judge by eye, cut once, adjust to fit" school of thought). The rear of the chassis may have had to be trimmed into a V shape to fit the rear valance. Engine is base on the 340 in the Duster kit and at the back is a scratchbuilt IRS.
  19. Wait until it's got the graphics on! My plan this year has always been no subtlety, no stealth, just brute force. Besides, it'll be moving so fast doppler shift will make it look black...
  20. I built one for the first Scale Cannonball Run Community Build (back then it was held on the Scale Auto Forum) using an AMT '71 Duster chassis. Dustball 500 29-11-08 01 by Fred Maillardet, on Flickr Dustball 500 29-11-08 07 by Fred Maillardet, on Flickr
  21. Make sense to me. Surely full size/real/1:1 (delete as applicable) vehicles are built with the sole purpose of providing prototypes to enable generations of modellers will create replicas and then argue over detail, colour, weathering... <sarc. mode off>

  23. Good stuff Dave. I was pondering how tech has evolved over the years i've been doing this. When I built the lil Nissan on a NASCAR chassis for the second or third run I included big boxes to represent a computer navigation and communications system. This year i'll scratch up a tablet or smart phone and that'll be it (apart from the CB put in the dash for old times sake). Having finished the bodywork I painted it today. German Orange. Pro Lux WIP 28-10-17 by Fred Maillardet, on Flickr
  24. I have found that when stripping parts in brake fluid styrene cement joints will sometimes let go. Not always, and the plastic will get brittle meaning if the glue doesn't let go then parts are more likely to break if force is applied.
  25. You've really got to wonder about the parents...
