2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD

There's something missing... but I can't quite put my finger on it. (No real surprize, I guess. I can't put my finger on something that ain't there, can I?) -

What the hell died in this thing? I pity any poor soul that decides this car needs "restoring"! Unless that IS the last poor soul that decided this needed restoring..... -

Busy day today: I had my junkyard collection of parts arrive on Friday. Would you believe there was not a single 1:25 supercharger in the lot! Drag car - engine missing. Rear engined Hemi - front and rear blower plates, but the blower itself was no where. Lots of flatheads in near useless condition. There was a monster truck in 1:20(?) scale that had a blower though. Mostly a little presure popped all of the glue joints which were over paint - until I got to the blower, and that was well and truly stuck! It is now stuck on the caddy engine instead. The engine has been raised about 5mm at the front to make it "more in your face". 1:20 blower and its wonderful belt were attached after a suitable manifold was bodged together. Gaping maw of a blower scoop is being made. Kudos if you recognise what it started out as. The interior is full of nastiness, but it isn't grotty enough yet. Whatever the grotty stuff is, it is holding onto the steering wheel. The horrible muck dribbling down its sides is 5 minute araldite that has been painted with polishable Mr Color Dark Iron paint. Other dribbles are clear red and smoke from Tamiya, and fluoro green from a 22 year old Mr Color jar. Wheels were aqua/pale blue from the junkyard lot. I vaguely recall owing a car that was that color, but have no recolection of what it was. Perhaps I just had the wheels from another junkyard lot. A fellow gave me his left overs when I worked at a hobby shop. My other build giving it a shunt. -

Lego Minifig weapons and 1/18th scale action figure weapons can be used to some extent. Being toys, their scale is somewhat variable. Sometimes you can find them in 1/25 too, in car kits. I saw an aftermarket set a couple days back, but don't recall where. http://minifigworld.com/ http://www.marauderinc.com/servlet/StoreFront -

Unfortunately I tossed a similar build before I got anywhere near finishing it. I had quad tires on each of the four rear wheels, and triples on the front. Other than that, it was a similar cab, covering a similar engine. The following build I did complete. Stuffing oversized engines in cars is a challenge, but keep at it, you will get there. -

I appear to have derped on the exhaust pipe placement. Yesterday was spent on the merc behind it. Today's free time was mostly spent asleep. -

A tip - check photos of monster trucks. You will find that the "arrows" in the tyre treads point forward when viewed above. Otherwise, great stuff. -

Oops. There was a Merc too close! Introduced to the "prickle ball" in my dremel style tool. Some gentle applications of heat to "stablize" the plastic, then three coats of paint - rust colored primer, gum grey, then to top it off a top layer of burgundy. One was careful to not sand down the rough primer spots between coats, or to propperly cover the grey with the top coat. Followed by some careful sanding to ensure a nice smooth finish. Turned up a distributer, then spent a few hours trying to work out what the hell powers this thing, so I could locate where the spark plugs were. Eventually discovered it is a Cadillac 309 CID. That gave me a photo that clued me into where the @$#$% spark plugs were hiding. The one thing that really fouled me up today was when I went to grab a supercharger, I found I had none. Not one @$#$% super charger in any of the kits I bought over the last couple of weeks, apart from the one in my other build. So now I have to wait for stuff to get delivered! -

The entire body of this build is copper foil and copper wire. You can see the shaping I got on the rear guards. The flare is part of the same pieceof metal. Okay, this one is fairly rough for obvious reasons, but you get the ... AAAARGGGG a Zombie!!!! -

Gotta find a small block chevy for it!!! If you want to use metal in your build, I recommend .005" copper foil. It is great for shaping. By rubbing it with a ball shaped tool (even a coarse ball point pen can be used) you can get compound curves. -

Quite so. Joe Average has no hope of fixing some computer fault, asuming the EMP from the nukes didn't already fry them all (in the case of nuclear war). Other factors would include things like modern cars being made of plastic. One minor bump and the thing shatters, or crumples up into a ball for safety. Break their windshield, and they lose structural integrity! And of course, the old style cars are just plain cooler to look at! Still in an argument against chosing this sort of car, I don't like my chances of finding a Henry J in real life to use! Mind you, I wouldn't have to walk to far to nab a couple of 50's Holden FJs. -

And many people thought this was what was used. I understand that the Aussie designers used the "best bits" of several designs to come up with that series. The Mustang style hood was adoped by the XB model. That hood became popular over here for a while, and customizers started grafting it to everything. Sometimes it looked good, but there is something fundamentally wrong with a Holden/Chev with one grafted on. It looked weird.
