Tamiya 1/24th Scale Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA
PatW replied to mikevillena's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Wow Mike, as a race/airfield marshal over nearly 30 years at Silverstone just up the road here in the UK, I remember these when they came over from their base in Italy to race in the European Touring Car series in the day. What beautiful machines and great teams, both factory and customer teams, what great days they were. Your making a grand job of this model, keep up the good work, I look forward to seeing the rest of the build. The video is just superb, just as I remember them. A good friend of my two sons has re-built a 1-1 road car over the last 5 years and runs it only in the summer. -
Nice one! As a previous owner of Beetles and a neighbour with one of these in Dark Green, yes you've done a great job.
-
Great build so far keep up the good work. I look forward to the rest of the build, as an owner of 3 beetles and two others in the family over the years, YES I'm a bug fan!

Super build up so far! I rememeber this car flying past me when I was a rally marshal here in the UK. I look forward to the rest of the build.

ScaleKraft Broadspeed Mini Conversion, Finished Apr 22, 2014
PatW replied to jbwelda's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Yes the Cortina rear lights are on a TVR Griffith, which was a fibreglass car built by TVR but a bit unreliable in it's day. This takes me back to the days when I ran a beetle and always wanted a Mini Copper 'S'. In those days the engines for the 'S'came in 999cc and 1275cc. Broadspeed were essentially Ford tuners/racers most of the Ford 'works' cars were built by Broadspeed. I've seen a few of this model of Broadspeed as I live about 60 miles south of their factory in the UK. One of their first 'modified' shells was just chopped with all the rain gutters shaved off. I also saw these fastback models race at Silverstone circuit which is just 5 miles from me, many, many years ago when I was a race marshall there. Very nice build but I don't know about the colour! Looking through the archives I came across this Minisprint GTS...... Oh yes and who is that guy on the left with what looks to be a fag on, oh yes it's Stirling Moss, this was 1966! Here's the Broadspeed fastback in race trim...... -
Hi Brizio, the build is really looking good. The outlaw style I was thinking about is the photo below..... Smooth, no bumpers(in this case just nerf bars, no hub caps, written tyres and slightly lowered. We had a number of beetles and my youngest son's was lowered, by tweaking the torsion bars on the back, and an adjustable beam on the front.

We had a few beetles over 10 years or so and to keep the front end down to enhance the steering we put the spare wheel on top of the fuel tank and put a large plastic bag full of wet sand where the spare wheel normally sits right in the nose! It's a nice thought to give the beetle a bit more power, but if you use the standard wheels and tyres, when the drop the clutch the torque will tear the rear tyres away from the rims! Nice build by the way it shows a bit of imagination, which is what we modelmakers are about.

Nice Porsche, as you are building it as a daily runner is it going to be in outlaw style?
-
Nice one Jim. Now go and get those tyres dirty!
-
Well done empinut, superb build, thanks for sharing!

Wow Jim that looks really great! Yes your right they should have put it on the production line.
-
Superb work afx, I've added my comments to your other build and may well get mine out of the box and try and finish it after many attempts to put things right!

Your doing some fantastic work on the 914, which is still my favourite Porsche. In the UK it was always called the VW-Porsche, where as a race marshall had seen the 914-6 race in the '70's. I've recently worked on two of these kits but the poor quality has made me put them both back in their boxes. I've done as you have, beefing up all of the chassis, rebuilding the suspension numerous times as one wheel is always off the ground, and one still is so I've put them away for the time being. I might get them out again after the seeing the great work your doing. I look forward to seeing the finished car!

Wow, fantastic build and weathered finish. It takes me back to the day when I was race/airfield marshalling at the Silverstone circuit in the UK, seeing these and other model Porsches flying through the corners with the flame emitting from the exhaust on overrun! Well done and thanks for sharing. -
Very nice work! Where did you get the resin shell from please?
-
Wow Fantastic Loti, something I've been watching here in the UK at the Silverstone circuit for the past 45 years at club and classic events as a race and airfield marshall. Great work and thanks for sharing!

Well that's different, nice and different! -
Hi Manny, I hope things improve for you next year. We have a problem here in the UK with Gas and Electricity prices. The 'energy' giants are increasing prices by 10% but we don't get anymore that 1% in wage rises if we get any at all and for me on a pension it's really tight so when I buy a kit or resin like this Airstream I have to make the most of it! Merry Christmas Manny and have a happier new year in 2014.

Hey Jim. I like the side pods and your bomber seats, I fitted yours to my recent Manx build. Yours looks great Jim. I've just been reading an article in Volksworld Magazine here in the UK, showing both a short wheelbase and standard one. Keep up the good work with your superb resin supplies. I think if I had a real one down on the beach I would drill a fews holes in the floorpan and just use a hose to wash out all the sand and rubbish!
