  1. I call shotgun. Oh, wai...
  2. Ed Zachary. The original Excalibur wasn't the disgusting neoclassic that emerged still wearing the name long after the SSK re-creation. That others were compelled to also join in the fray of obnoxious neoclassics...well, that's some pretty head-shaking herd mentality for you! And to pour salt into the wound, what is left of Zimmer is nothing like the car that was featured this week. Straight back to crassville they went.
  3. So who's bringing the pizza and ice cream?
  4. If it's a Willy's, it has Crager wheels, and the builder drives a Camero. *insert missing Ninja smilie here*
  5. Please stop me from making a new thread: "What do Willy's, Camero, and Crager have in common?" *insert missing ninja smilie* as I jump into my Mercede's and hightail it out of here
  6. Looks great
  7. The way threads evolve around here sometimes gives me the willies.
  8. How often do you get a new kit and are blown away by what is inside vs. your perception of it beforehand? Almost never? Once I had seen the Camaro, I knew that they were good (and I was also almost incensed at how soft and inaccurate the AMT kit was, in terms of body and interior detail, in comparison)...and when I saw the first Mustang at a Hobby Lobby, I snatched it up, figuring what was inside the box was nothing like the boxart. I was so pleasantly surprised to see how well they had done the kit, I made sure a couple friends got the other Mustangs that were at that store. I truly think had they marketed the kits differently; as in offered them w/"normal" wheels/tires as an option, had more accurate boxart that would appeal to a wider swath of model enthusiasts, they could have succeeded. I would have NEVER bought one based on the boxart alone. Which is a shame; such good work on a product hampered by boxart that just "didn't get it". Not like Jada is alone in that; American model companies just don't seem to have their hearts into boxart that inspires. So often it does the opposite. Then there are Japanese kits that are just awful, but people buy them because of great boxart...oh the irony
  9. Overhaulin' was good for about 5 minutes, before it got "old". I loved "Rides". Once they got the overbearing personalities involved w/the various "reality" shows, it was all over for all of them.
  10. The kits were 10X better than their awful boxart would have led one to believe. Photos on the boxes were of their diecasts which do not share tooling w/the plastic kits. I'd say the obnoxious, juvenile and toylike packaging was the biggest reason that they were avoided and not taken seriously. They were clearly aimed at younger builders, but in a way that turned off older builders. With photos of well-built models and perhaps not having the Jada-compulsory cartoon wheels, they might still be going... Had a club member not brought one to one of our club meetings (a Camaro), I would have never bothered. I've built the Camaro and Mustang and found them to be great; good proportions and detail inside and out...aside from the weird suspension/tubs for the ginormous wheels. The Camaro has a better body & interior than the AMT kit, for sure. I got the Mustang because I was tired of waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting for Revell...and it was so good I never had to get the Revell kit. The only kit that has odd proportions is the Corvette. The Ford GT has some of the proper fender creases that the Polar Lights kit totally missed. The only thing I can't figure out is how to get the Ford GT engine cover to fit properly w/the body and rear bumper. Seems to be an odd way to get those parts together. I would welcome them doing more cars. As you can see, they don't have to be built w/cartoon wheels/tires. The wheel openings are stock.
  11. I saw part of one episode. I didn't expect much, and even at that, it was beyond awful.
  12. Wow, I didn't know they were out. The new Caprice is just starting to hit the streets, as are the 2011 Charger police cars. I'll have to familiarize myself with their nighttime/lights-on appearance
  13. Considering what Zimmer usually makes, it's amazingly restrained, almost...tasteful, I like the front/middle/sides but not the tail end.
  14. Yes, it's the 2-part, and the packaging is nearly identical to the 1-part, so you have to be careful. Just look inside the blister pack for the small white tube of catalyst, and I'm pretty sure that the word "professional" is only on the package of 2-part putty. They're sold side-by-side at the Pep Boys where I've found it. As for the amount of catalyst, roughly 10-1 is what is called for, but as long as you have a color change in the putty from the hardener, it will work. Too much...and it will kick too fast, too little, and it will kick a bit slower.
  15. Very nice
  16. Sorry, I missed that one, and can't reply to it. It wasn't me, I've never been associated w/the Miata club. Sorry.
  17. Thanks for the replies Yes, I cheated my you-know-what off Hey, race teams prepare well ahead of the race, they don't just unload the car from the transporter 5 mins. before the race... Let's just say I'm always going to start the palooza w/a fully painted body...after doing the final body assembly and decals first (as in when I'm fresh and in a good mood ), I'm going to continue w/that strategy in the years to come!
  18. Interesting to note that Revell has a full itemized (by part number) list of all the parts. Wonder if they'll ever do a parts layout of the trees w/corresponding numbers? That's very helpful on the kits that have it (generally Japanese, but the Trumpeter Falcons have it too).
  19. Very, very cool
  20. Here is what I built during our annual "LeMans Palooza" that a group of ACME members participate in every year. Basically we build a LeMans racer during the race. We're pretty liberal with rules; the main objective is to have fun and finish the model by the end of the race. This year 5 of us were building together (there were others in attendance but didn't participate for the entire race). We have a blast doing this, it's great fun. I chose the Hasegawa Mazda 767B "Finish Line" racer. It placed 7th in 1990, and I like the livery better than the 1991 787B that won (the orange/green "Renown" version). This is a really simple curbside kit. Before the race I prepped the body and painted it Tamiya Pure white, and the night before the race I masked/painted the blue canopy area w/Tamiya TS44 Brilliant Blue. This area is a decal in the kit, but I didn't trust the decals, so I scanned them just in case. I trimmed the canopy decals down to just the white/blue pinstripe that borders the white and blue, and it worked pretty well. I used Microscale decal film over all the other decals "just in case", therefore I spent about 6-8 hours just doing the decals slowly/carefully. It was fun doing the model "backwards"...I did the body final assembly and decals first, once they were done I did the interior, chassis, and rear wing. It also made the harder part (decals/final details) happen early in the day vs. in the middle of the night. I was done around midnight, with about an hour of work Sun. AM before the race ended to put decals on the rear wing and dry transfers on the tires. Next year, Revell's upcoming Compuware C5R
  21. Just get the regular "Chrome". The "Ultra Bright" lacks adhesive, and the regular chrome buffs out even nicer than the Ultra Bright.
  22. Speed will never try harder. Ever. Worst excuse for a car channel ever. They don't know anything but "dumbed-down" because of the audience they think they're playing to, and that's all I'm going to say on that subject It was a great race...when it wasn't under caution. Way too many inexperienced drivers, but McNish is definitely experienced and his wreck was his fault.
  23. If Revell doesn't make a Boss 302 variant from it...shame on them! And I would suggest they make it available as a 2-in-1 in street and Laguna Seca versions in the same box In the meantime, Maisto is doing a 2012 Boss 302...so there's a source for wheels whenever it comes out. I've got a couple of these kits, so far pretty impressive, definitely improvements over the '05-'09 kits.
