  1. Looks stellar, very authentic. I need to get one of these kits.
  2. Living in a big city, we have numerous HL's to choose from. They are definitely all different..ranging from a pathetic selection, to a well-stocked and up-to-date (for HL standards) selection. Too bad that each store is at the mercy of their own local management for keeping the shelves stocked..or not. I'm more likely to buy a kit from them from the clearance rack than w/a coupon.
  3. I'm not really sure if there's still a cracking issue or not; never happened to me, it did to others, haven't heard about it in ages. As for spraying over decals...BE CAREFUL! Some decals can take the "heat" of the Tamiya clear, others cannot. You are best to sneak up on the clear...apply in thin mist coats, after the decals are thoroughly dry. I decant/airbrush it, and that's the only way I'd really trust it over decals. One brand of decals may be just fine, another could lead to disaster if you are not really careful. Tread lightly. I would advise testing your paint/decal combo on a spoon. Get a box of disposable white plastic spoons at the grocery store, they're great for testing paint.
  4. So does that mean your weekly Sat. morning Cars and Coffee is really Cars and Nitro Methane?
  5. I call shotgun. Oh, wai...
  6. Ed Zachary. The original Excalibur wasn't the disgusting neoclassic that emerged still wearing the name long after the SSK re-creation. That others were compelled to also join in the fray of obnoxious neoclassics...well, that's some pretty head-shaking herd mentality for you! And to pour salt into the wound, what is left of Zimmer is nothing like the car that was featured this week. Straight back to crassville they went.
  7. So who's bringing the pizza and ice cream?
  8. If it's a Willy's, it has Crager wheels, and the builder drives a Camero. *insert missing Ninja smilie here*
  9. Please stop me from making a new thread: "What do Willy's, Camero, and Crager have in common?" *insert missing ninja smilie* as I jump into my Mercede's and hightail it out of here
  10. Looks great
  11. The way threads evolve around here sometimes gives me the willies.
  12. How often do you get a new kit and are blown away by what is inside vs. your perception of it beforehand? Almost never? Once I had seen the Camaro, I knew that they were good (and I was also almost incensed at how soft and inaccurate the AMT kit was, in terms of body and interior detail, in comparison)...and when I saw the first Mustang at a Hobby Lobby, I snatched it up, figuring what was inside the box was nothing like the boxart. I was so pleasantly surprised to see how well they had done the kit, I made sure a couple friends got the other Mustangs that were at that store. I truly think had they marketed the kits differently; as in offered them w/"normal" wheels/tires as an option, had more accurate boxart that would appeal to a wider swath of model enthusiasts, they could have succeeded. I would have NEVER bought one based on the boxart alone. Which is a shame; such good work on a product hampered by boxart that just "didn't get it". Not like Jada is alone in that; American model companies just don't seem to have their hearts into boxart that inspires. So often it does the opposite. Then there are Japanese kits that are just awful, but people buy them because of great boxart...oh the irony
  13. Overhaulin' was good for about 5 minutes, before it got "old". I loved "Rides". Once they got the overbearing personalities involved w/the various "reality" shows, it was all over for all of them.
  14. The kits were 10X better than their awful boxart would have led one to believe. Photos on the boxes were of their diecasts which do not share tooling w/the plastic kits. I'd say the obnoxious, juvenile and toylike packaging was the biggest reason that they were avoided and not taken seriously. They were clearly aimed at younger builders, but in a way that turned off older builders. With photos of well-built models and perhaps not having the Jada-compulsory cartoon wheels, they might still be going... Had a club member not brought one to one of our club meetings (a Camaro), I would have never bothered. I've built the Camaro and Mustang and found them to be great; good proportions and detail inside and out...aside from the weird suspension/tubs for the ginormous wheels. The Camaro has a better body & interior than the AMT kit, for sure. I got the Mustang because I was tired of waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting for Revell...and it was so good I never had to get the Revell kit. The only kit that has odd proportions is the Corvette. The Ford GT has some of the proper fender creases that the Polar Lights kit totally missed. The only thing I can't figure out is how to get the Ford GT engine cover to fit properly w/the body and rear bumper. Seems to be an odd way to get those parts together. I would welcome them doing more cars. As you can see, they don't have to be built w/cartoon wheels/tires. The wheel openings are stock.
  15. I saw part of one episode. I didn't expect much, and even at that, it was beyond awful.
  16. Wow, I didn't know they were out. The new Caprice is just starting to hit the streets, as are the 2011 Charger police cars. I'll have to familiarize myself with their nighttime/lights-on appearance
  17. Considering what Zimmer usually makes, it's amazingly restrained, almost...tasteful, I like the front/middle/sides but not the tail end.
  18. Yes, it's the 2-part, and the packaging is nearly identical to the 1-part, so you have to be careful. Just look inside the blister pack for the small white tube of catalyst, and I'm pretty sure that the word "professional" is only on the package of 2-part putty. They're sold side-by-side at the Pep Boys where I've found it. As for the amount of catalyst, roughly 10-1 is what is called for, but as long as you have a color change in the putty from the hardener, it will work. Too much...and it will kick too fast, too little, and it will kick a bit slower.
  19. Very nice
  20. Sorry, I missed that one, and can't reply to it. It wasn't me, I've never been associated w/the Miata club. Sorry.
  21. Thanks for the replies Yes, I cheated my you-know-what off Hey, race teams prepare well ahead of the race, they don't just unload the car from the transporter 5 mins. before the race... Let's just say I'm always going to start the palooza w/a fully painted body...after doing the final body assembly and decals first (as in when I'm fresh and in a good mood ), I'm going to continue w/that strategy in the years to come!
  22. Interesting to note that Revell has a full itemized (by part number) list of all the parts. Wonder if they'll ever do a parts layout of the trees w/corresponding numbers? That's very helpful on the kits that have it (generally Japanese, but the Trumpeter Falcons have it too).
  23. Very, very cool
