  1. Just got my first tamiya Enzo kit. Looking forward to getting into it.
  2. most kits i build box stock so it is basically kit, glue and paint. I really try not to buy outside of michaels or hobby lobby with the coupons. recently i "splurged" on a Hasegawa 250 Testa Rossa, i think it was $48, I plan on getting the wheel kits, $30-45ish, and the other pe kit for that car, also $30-45ish, so all told I would be in that one about $135 before paint. I feel the kit warrants the extra money i am looking to spend on it. Now, that being said, I would never spend that kind of scratch on a Monogram 64 Mustang even though that is also a nice kit. I also just picked up the Tamiya Enzo for $33 but have no aspirations of extra detail parts on it....... Yet.
  3. got two bottles of future free from a customer. he was really confused as to why i asked about them. saved me about $20 in chicago prices.
  4. I too was in full withdrawal mode, uncontrolled sweating, constant shaking, dry mouth, loose bowels the whole deal. I told myself when/if it came back I'd take it slow and not over do it but I lied to myself. The other forum is full of jamokes that start a post like "knight rider car collection" and I say hmm that might be cool to see and then I click on it and the jamoke has a post "I like knight rider and have some models from the show" there are no pictures just dopey words. Then another jamoke posts "new project delorian limo" and he posts " I would like to build a delorian limo" wtf????? So would 50% of the people here numb nuts where are the progress pics dum dum.
  5. Al's Hobbies in Elmhurst, IL or online at store.alshobbyshop.com
  6. don't feel bad I am 34 and I thought I read the same thing
  7. i never seem to be at the right place at the right time for deals like this. I finally found one and it is resting comfortably on my shelf this is one that i will be taking my time with
  8. Oh and these are what I got today. Been waiting and searching for the TestRossa 250 for some time now. I know they are available but I didn't want to spend $75 on a model. I also found this corvette at a local shop it is the Accurate Miniatures kit issued by Revell. I learned about this at Al's hobbies and went straight back to the other store and bought it for $17
  9. Al's hobbies is a pretty cool place to go. It is about 25 miles from where i am and their staff is very knowledgeable. They also have a pretty impressive paint selection. I would recommend anyone within 50 miles to make the trek out to Elmhurst.
  10. tomo i too am a fan of the entire run of corvettes. the c4 was one of my favorite designs they had next to the 62 and 66 of course. the c5 was a big change to the design and i remember not liking it at first but it grew on me and now the c7 i cant wait to see at the chicago auto show next week. funny side note pink floyd is also my favorite band and i have a darkside of the moon tattoo.
  11. The only ones I seem to see are about $80-100 don't get lucky enough to get ones at $31 found one for $43 shipped. Kinda Leary about the source though
  12. you seem to trade everything! lol
  13. 2 kits come to mind for "Holy Grail" the hasegawa testrossa 250 had a few in my sights in the past but they all slipped away before i could get them and the revell car carrier. 250 is probably the coolest looking car I have never seen in person. I have yet another line in the water for one so i'll keep my fingers crossed and i just think the car carrier is cool in the absolute dorkiest sense of the word cool i have a line in the same water for that kit as well.
  14. Hey Brodie I just got this kit on Sunday have you worked in yours at all since your last post? Your engine is insane so far can't wait to see what you do next
  15. i see where i went wrong here. thank you
  16. now im not well versed on what is or isnt a "rat rod" but all the ones I have seen before looked like a pile of junk parts mashed together. What makes this a rat rod? to me it looks like a 32 ford street rod with no hood
  17. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Revel wants me to buy a model and build it!!!!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAA i like to buy models and build them!!!! WAAAAAAAAAAA Revel wont let me enter their contest without buying a revel model kit!!!!!!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAA nobody consulted me about what kits to use in the contest!!!! WAAAAAAAAAA Revel is a business that is trying to make a profit!!!!!! WAAAAAAAAAAA Revel is trying to spark my interest in new things!!!!!! WAAAAAAAAAAA WAAAAAAAAAA WAAAAAAAAAA Stop crying buy a kit build it take pictures of it and enter it. jesus christ its like everyone here just wants to complain about every little thing WAAAAAAAAAAA this guy used too many capital a's in his post
  18. I have the same car on my bench right now and I am a huge fan of corvettes. yours looks very nice! i cant wait to have mine completed now.
  19. i think the problem you see is how the back end slopes off into the rear of the car. when i see that slope it instantly makes me think of 70's muscle cars and the chevelle. newer cars don't slope like that. if you look at the 69 camaro and a 2010 camaro the 69 slopes the 2010 stays straight to a definite angle down. also the higher ridge of the fenders sloping down into the trunk modern cars are more flat in that respect. fantastic build though
  20. one more bit of "wisdom" that I have learned here. BMF is bare metal foil they make it in a few different metal types including gold. I always hated chrome on cars and especially models because it is such a pain to paint free hand the bmf makes it relatively easy and looks 1000 times better than brushed paint. I'd invest in some if I were you it really takes the frustration of a perfect paint job ruined by free handing the trim.
  21. i dont really like rat rods, but that is the rattiest rod i have seen. and i mean that as a compliment! it looks cool
  22. derrick do you know of any other clubs closer to civilization?
  23. nick i am a relatively husky gentleman the humidity in the south makes me a cranky sob and no matter how many snickers bars i eat i remain a little joe pesci-ish with a hint of richard lewis... its not pretty or fun to be around me in the heat or the humidity. Plus if i was forced to watch the hurricanes play on tv, if they ever play again, i might have to end it all.
  24. bensenville is all the way on the other side of the known world to a born and raised south sider. id be afraid id fall off the earth if i went all the way up there, do they still speak chicagoan there?
  25. Been in Evergreen Park for 33 years, 34 next month. I have read a lot of griping about our politicians on here all I have to say about that is the only reason our politicians look worse than other states is we only listen to news about our politicians not other states. Simple fact: politicians are, basically, all crooks and liars. Some get caught and some are better at the game. I cant imagine living anywhere else in the world. My favorite thing is walking out my back door and getting the first lung full of 10-20 degree air, but I was born in the blizzard of 79 so i guess snow and cold air is in my dna. Also, shoveling snow isn't that turrible, my driveway is 25' wide and 125' long and then I have sidewalks and elderly neighbors to shovel for. Before anyone says that I am a young man and shoveling is harder when you get older than I, I say that is why God invented snow blowers... get one. Are there any southside model clubs close to Evergreen Park? or any other modelers close to me on here?
