  1. i see all of those "2013 completion" posts and was tempted to start a "2013 Started but not finished" post. i thought about it and figured the amount of traffic it would have created would kill the internet as we know it!
  2. kerry, I think i have the tamiya 360 at home. If it is the same kit i will measure the areas you have requested.
  3. I know what you mean about the Enzo in black not coming out well in pictures! I was going to use the body of a failed attempt at the Revell version on a trailer as kind of a "Look what I found" scene with a Chevy pickup pulling the trailer. You cant really see it in real life though either so I used the trailer for something else.
  4. Started looking at the stock Chevy interior and decided it didn't fit the theme of what was happening underneath it. So out came the saw and the styrene started flying. At one point I imagined the beginning of the movie Glory where the soldier was having his leg cut off with a saw and he was pleading for the doctor to stop cutting, can styrene feel pain? I figured that I have already stretched my skills to their breaking point so why not complicate things more? I cut the stock interior out from the base of the Chevy. Then I removed the cockpit from the Enzo and began slicing away at that too. I think the Enzo dash will look pretty decent in this car... Eventually. The last project from last night was to remove the rumble seat from the back and re-skin the back seat area flat. I will be utilizing this space for the battery and a nitrous tank... Why not eh?
  5. Started working on a complete scratch built exhaust. Not sure if I am going to take it the full length and exhaust out back or come out the sides in front of rear tires. Also, not sure might run straight pipes down and out the sides and have 6 exhaust tubes coming out each side. need to do some mock ups first.
  6. Didn't get a lot done today all I was able to complete was beefing up the rear suspension/frame. Before After
  7. Went back to the drawing board after the quick eyes of Bill pointed out the transaxle deficiencies. I looked at building a box from the frame around the transaxle and other possible solutions before coming up with this. I cut the frame apart and then cut the rear suspension and transaxle out of a ZR-1 and factioned them together in a, somewhat, believable manor. My eye keeps being drawn to the front of the rear suspension where the frame comes into it. I think I will be attempting to make that look more believable somehow. Anyway I did a test fit of the drivetrain last night and everything lines up fairly well. And just for fun I put the body on to check out what the engine will look like under the hood. I think it looks pretty cool in there. It's going to be a hair puller to figure out the exhaust, it will need to be completely custom and this engine has 12 cylinders to deal with! The other issue will be the intake. I'm thinking of routing the intakes to the front grill area but I will have to wait until I get further in the process to figure that out. Until then back to the drivetrain...
  8. What did you use from the corvette? I am building a car right now and could use some parts from the vette, unless of course you already used them or aren't.
  9. Thanks, I have a Vette that didn't go so well that I am going to liberate the rear end from this week. Not sure if I am going to use the suspension and fit the Enzo trans into it or use the suspension and transmission from the Vette. In any case I can harvest the bell housing from the engine and trans for use on the Enzo engine and trans in the Chevy.
  10. Bill, This is why I put comments welcome. I work on this late in the day, after my kids go to bed, so my brain is not fully functioning at that point. I did think that the way I had it did not really translate to 1:1 but could not figure out why. You are absolutely right. When I get home tonight I will be looking at the ZR-1 Corvette from my stash that has a transaxle to see what I can do to go more realistic, Which was my original goal. Thanks. AL
  11. Well, I built the Enzo and was less than satisfied with it and then on one of the last steps... I broke the entire rear end of it. The car sat as I thought about ordering parts from Revell to rebuild it but I just didn't like the job I did on the car at all. One day I got the idea to use the Enzo engine in another car and started looking around the kit stash. Enter the 39 Chevy Coupe....... The first order of business was to decide what to do with the Enzo engine/trans I decided to separate the engine block from the transmission to create a front engine rear transaxle set up. How to mount the transmission in the rear of the car was another problem. I solved this by cutting the rear end apart and attaching the transmission where the differential was. It actually looks like it might work out. As if all these modifications weren't difficult enough, for my limited skill set, I decided to use the Enzo wheels and tires which required me to cut the floor pan of the trunk and build tubs, a first for me... And then just to cause the rest of my hair to turn grey... Why not open the trunk and doors AND reverse the doors to open suicide style? Sounds like a lot of fun... This may or may not end up being the color scheme of the car. I have been toying with flat or matte black or grey leaving it as a "work in progress" Any comment or questions are greatly appreciated.
  12. that depends on IF he can be a good boy long enough to get another kit. he has a 1/25 bigfoot and the revell snap enzo so far. i think he was eyeing the revell snap fire truck.
  13. This is the second car my son has completed, mostly by himself this time.
  14. i look at a lot of builds on this site and don't comment on many of them. mostly because most people cant handle dead honesty with a discriminating eye, I was trained extensively to see all of the imperfections in paint and cant not see them. This build is beautiful just absolutely stunningly clean paint fantastic attention to details. Just WOW!! I have this kit and if it comes out half as good id be pleased.
  15. Got this kit from Fred this week and i cant find any information online about it. I call to the styrene gods of the MCM Forums for information.
  16. Got these from Fred. The 250 GTO is of special interest to me right now as I have not seen this kit before. The firebird and corvette are kits that I had built when I was younger. The Testarossa I got for 4$, I offered a guy on eBay 6$ for one and he said I'd never find one cheaper than 9$... He was wrong... I bought that one out of spite!
  17. This was a quick build that my 4 year old son helped with. He did some of the painting on it himself! Didn't go crazy with details on this build as I am sure my son will be play/breaking it a lot!
  18. Showed up the other day just got the chance to open the box. 4 Ferrari's - Enzo, SuperAmerica and the Miami Vice Testarossa and Daytona Spyder.
  19. Had a good trade with John smiley aka customsrus. Made the trade a few weeks ago and then had a couple of deaths in the family and John was very patient as I dealt with everything at home before I could get the trade boxed up and sent out. Would trade with him again any time Al
  20. You would think with this kit being popular Testors would have come out with the Kona blue paint. I too have the kit and wanted to paint it kona blue but did not want to spend over 100$ to get the automotive paint mixed and put into a spray can. I settled on the tamiya mica blue.
  21. Keep in mind... Spray paint is cheaper option to airbrush and better results than brushes. If you have a hobby lobby or michaels near you they always have 40-50% off coupons online
  22. yes it is much better to use an airbrush, or a rattle can, than it is to use a paint brush. on the body of the car it is pretty difficult to get a nice smooth finish with a brush. if you do not have an airbrush already get some spray paint to start and always use primer first. if you are not satisfied with the outcome of your paint brushing you can easily strip the paint with easy off oven cleaner and start over. i would suggest looking at Italianhorses.net and check out the tutorials section for painting. Just like everything else in life practice makes perfect and you will never be 100% satisfied with any finished product.
  23. Gerry, Was that at the Continental Motorsports on Ogden and 294? If so when is it going to happen again and where does one find out this information? I would have loved to have attended just did not know about it. Al
