  1. 2-15-09 DONE!! I did redo the hood..paint matched up much better the second time around. Hood does open to reveal the DD Series 60 engine..completely plumbed and decal(s)...Kurt When the weather breaks hope to get some outdoor shots... Also if you notice or see some of the other details: Boot brush, and the EZ-PASS transponder on the dash board.
  2. 2-7-09 Dave.... The hinges are indeed from the Model Car Garage (photo-etched) I did modify them..the directions were not so good. Pain in the but to align the doors...BUT they work..and eveything is even. The build is coming along...the hood..I couldn't live with it..Once out in natural sunlight..it didn't match the cab..too far darker..so back to the paint booth.tomorrow..not a big set-back. Just another pain in the but..my mistake..I'll learn... Here are 2 pictures of the metal aluminum stacks..photo-eched muffler shields...Kurt
  3. 2/4/09 Guy's... Well...Here it is 96% complete. Need to button "her" up. Air breathers/Exhaust Stacks..mirrors...a "little" under the hood... After this build..I am seriously considering another hobby..too much torment. It always seems to fight me at the finish..and thanks to another "fellow" modeler, he "jinxed" me on the paint..What you see is what you get.....cab is a little shade off... You guys are really turning out some really nice builds...KEEP IT UP. Time to turn in...Good night, Kurt Sorry the pictures are dark.....
  4. 1/25/09 These pictures were completed last weekend...I thought I would share with everyone. The cab has been finally primered/seal coated..ready for the blue. The link for the GPS satellite receiver... trucks@modeltrucks.com.au and or http://www.modeltrucks.com.au/ Then And now
  5. Uwe.... Here is a "link" that Tim posted earlier...Jamie/Mo'Luminum produces these soft resin tires (http://timstrucks.web.aplus.net/moluminum.htm) I have been friends with Jamie for sometime now..his castings are very good...he also turns my aluminum breathers. On the GPS unit..it was acquired from Model Truck Parts in Australia.. Kurt
  6. 1-17-09 Getting there...UH Dave....Good to hear from you. The fenders mirrors were scratch built from Evergreen plastic round stock. There are about 15 pieces that make each assembly..about 2 hours apiece in them...Thanks, Kurt Kurt
  7. Tim "Good" choice on adding the yellow. Adds more character. Build is coming along very nicely. Kurt
  8. 1-11-09 Guys... Here is what the weekend produced..... Engine and drive shaft(s) with carrier installed. Plumbing to the airbrakes/airtanks completed..and some other odds and ends... Just a mock up..with many more to come as pieces are attached....Kurt
  9. Ray... Looks like a special build..and being "your" first...WELL Also looks like you are in your mobile office? How are things going these days? Take care, Kurt
  10. 1-5-09 Just finished detailing out the hood...tonight... :P :P I should sleep like a baby tonight...Too stressing!! Kurt If the parts look custom fabricated..They are..... And a picture of the painted frame..done this past weekend..in Mack Black.
  11. Scott... I agree with the equipment..very realistic looking.. All you need to do now..is run it down a few dusty/dirty roads..get it in some mud... Kurt
  12. Great job... A "little" weathering GOES along way...don't over do it. Looking forward to seeing it completed. Kurt
  13. Come on..Tim "Real Alminum Wheels" Looks great.... What color did you decide on? Kurt
  14. 1/1/09 Happy New Year to all...... Progress is still slow..BUT going... Finished the hood assembly up earlier this AM..with the Freightliner Viper Blue..(2 coats of paint, 2 coats of Tamiya clear coat)..the cab is being worked on at this time. Thank you to Jameston at (Scalefinishes) http://scalefinishes.com for supplying the paint..please check out his website..he offers automotive paint in complete kit(s)..at awesome prices..wide variety....highly recommended... Thanks, Kurt
  15. 12/27/08 Guy's....Happy Holidays Since I haven't posted pictures in a while...I thought I would bring everyone up to date. The truck is about 80% completed..the frame will go to the paint booth (basement) within the next week or so to get primer, and then chassis black. The hood is finished and in primer...the cab...WELL, that is the last piece that will be a "PITA". I ordered scale brass rivets for the added detail, I am going to try another set of hinges for the doors...and then hopefully primer and then paint. I am shooting to have this piece to unveil at the 2009 Old Dominion Open (February..in Virginia) that I will be attending with another fellow modeler. Scratch built hydraulic/PTO tower, added extras..clipboard, and laptop computer obtained from Don Loomis (Yahoo) http://www.flickr.com/photos/escort500xl/sets/ . He has some neat items casted in resin. Enjoy.....Kurt
  16. Tim.... One, word...WOW You need to make more of these..dirty weathered trucks. It turned out so realistic...I really am impressed... Thank you for the mention on the engine...Your care pack will be sent out shortly... Kurt McLucas
  17. Tim... Plain can be "sweet" as well. Again..a super build Happy Holidays Kurt
  18. 12-7-08 Well guys... Beautiful "snowy" day here in Western PA...got a little further ahead on the Freightliner project..started on the interior..got the frame almost ready for primer..added some more finished parts to the completed "box" and worked on this little piece since Friday... Started with Transmission Mounted P.T.O...which can be purchased at Sourkraut's http://sourkrautsmodeltrucks.com/?page_id=...;product_id=288 And came up with the Pump after modifying a "..........." any guesses???? Thanks, Kurt
  19. Tim... The picture you posted..it is a RD. By starting with the R-model kit you bought is the first step...you will need to lengthen the frame..scratchbuild the flatbed, or use one off of the Ford Stake bed model. Aftermarket cranes are also available from Italeri (Ebay) or KFS (oversea's) Go the Sourkrauts site as I gave you the link earlier...here is the direct link to the hood that will matchup to the R-model kit you have...do not use the DM600 kit..which has an offset cab... http://sourkrautsmodeltrucks.com/?page_id=...p;product_id=79 KFS http://www.kitformservices.com/tq.html (TQ14 Truck Mounted Crane Kit) Sourkraut also has the CH/CL resin cabs/hood (set) readily available as well... Kurt
  20. 11-15-08 Dave... You hit the nail on the head...and put my mind to rest. I did recently order a set from the Model Car Garage..and look forward to using them... I forgot about your Pete...I checked out your fotki site..on the build...when you painted the cab..how did the hinges take the paint? Did they "gum" up at all?? Again Thank you for your input...How the "heck" have you been?? Building anything new these days...Take care, Kurt
  21. Tim... You definitely want to go to Sourkraut's for the majority of your parts (Hood conversion/Tires/wheels(front floats) chassis decals..misc items...Chris is very good to work with. Look under trailer accessories ...there is wood planking for the bed floor your are going to build.... http://sourkrautsmodeltrucks.com/ Good Luck in your build.... Kurt McLucas
  22. 11-11-08 Guy's I thought I would ask for your help...Please On the Freightliner that is now on the work bench...I plan on having the doors open to reveal the interior..1st for me...Cutting the doors out..no problem..where I am divided is what to use for the hinges...Any suggestions... I did order up a new set of hinges from DetailMaster for 1/24-1/25th scale...they would work good on pickup trucks..Model Car Garage has the piano style..photo-etched..which I am leaning towards for that low profile... Even I can learn something new...Thank you for any input....Kurt
  23. 11/9/08 Well guys...other than the engine and the headache rack...the truck has been worked on a little here and there...wanted to posted some updated pictures and status.. Ordered a bunch of aluminum and photo-etched parts from KFS...my good friend Jamie (Mo'Luminum)supplied tires and rims, and specially turned aluminum breathers..the 5th wheel from KFS actually locks and slides with the pull of the lever..Doors were cut out and I'll be using the newly released Detail Master large hinges for big trucks (photo etched) it looks like (on order) fully detailed inside of the cab. Custom parts are being fabricated..tool box just finished..I am going to add a step tool box as well..plus an aluminum hydraulic tank. Color was decided on Viper Blue from Freightliner..a few more months and "she'll" be done..I hope. Eventually a coal dump trailer will be fabricated for it, leaning towards to a J&J..since there are located near..I can arrange for a tour and visit of the plant... Thanks...Kurt Happy Holidays to all....
  24. 10-27-08 Well guy's....Here it is...99% finished. Still need to add another item or two..airlines will go on when attached to the tractor. I have some more binders and chains made for it..did a "little" weathering...GPS unit added. Alclad "Polished Aluminum" with custom decals. Like everything..it has its flaws..Didn't turn out to bad..mad some changes from the last post(s) Picture of the actual rack posted..this is what I eye-balled off of... Thanks Kurt McLucas
  25. Tim... What a VACATION... Still looking at and enjoying the pictures. You look like a proud "poppa" holding a newborn... How did you manage to pack everything...any issues during transportation?? How were the responses from people attending?? Welcome back safe and sound... Kurt
