  1. BAR.... For the Bendix decals, that you are looking for..please go to http://sourkrautsmodeltrucks.com/ Look under decals...several chassis decal set(s) have the bendix decals...available. Thanks everyone for the great comments.... The headache rack is getting Alclad this week.... Kurt McLucas
  2. 10-12-08 Guy's.... Well the weekend came and went...this is what I tortured myself with the past few days..Enjoy!! Few odds and ends to tie up... This is the Detroit Diesel Series 60 engine from the Pete 378 kit. Several custom parts fabricated. Alclad stainless steel (exhaust) Chrome (Valve cover/fan) Sorry if the lighting is not the best...Kurt McLucas
  3. Tim.... Using the "mesh" from Plano..really add another realism/dimension to the build. Love the "white" raised roof. Very nice job as always...HOW MUCH STOCK to do you own in Bare Metal Foil??? Take care, Kurt
  4. Jameston, Yes..after acquiring the Freightliner DuPont paint chip book..the Viper blue is the same as the dump truck picture posted. I have also decided to do the frame in that blue as well. With all of the chrome/stainless steel and polished aluminum..I think it will turn out OK. I shortened the frame 3/4"..the headache rack has had some more work done to it..And I rec'd the miniature chain binders from KFS..pretty cool. Thank you to all..for the great comments..I'll keep everyone posted... Kurt McLucas
  5. Freightliner "Viper" Blue for the Cab and Chassis. Lots of Alclad stainless steel (exhaust) polished aluminum/chrome. Kurt McLucas
  6. Awesome job!! Kurt McLucas
  7. 10-1-08 Guy's Though I would share this one with you...fresh from the fab shop. This is my version of a Road-Gear headache rack for the Freightliner..it will be done in Alclad polished aluminum...things to finish..add the slamlocks to the (2) cabinets...and spot lights, I have beacon lights coming for it..and a GPS receiver...and a couple odds and ends..to complete. Completely built from scratch from an internet photo. Mock up of some custom decals..I have KFS chain binders and chains coming from across the pond..I have about 5 evenings into it. Kurt McLucas
  8. I did know and that the tractor was a "Classic" when I choose the picture...I did decide to do the tractor..But I will step it up a little to really make it heavy duty...front floats, wetline kit etc. For the paint..not sure on that at the moment..I was able to get the paint chip book from a local dealer.... I wanted to do the hood first..since that would be the difficult piece..red glazing/spot putty is really making it all come together now. The Detroit Series 60 fits the so-called era..so I robbed one from the new-re-released Pete 378 kit (Tim)... I'll put my spin on the detailing of it. Started custom making the air breathers as well... Thank you to everyone for the great comments and feedback...I'll keep you guys posted....Happy building... Kurt McLucas
  9. 9-7-08 Guy's.... Well November came early...couldn't keep away from the plastic. I started surgery Friday evening..and here is where I am at... The front grill...the vertical bars where cut and filed down where they meet the horizontal bars..some nice straight lines..and the headlight buckets were redone..and set back in to reflect a newer FLD model...1998-1999 year Like always..I have this mental picture in the back on my mind..and so far..not to bad...got a long way to go... A few questions that imput from you guys would be greatly appreciated.... Engine....Fully detailed CAT 3406E, or Detroit Series 60?? Either a heavy duty truck tractor, or a tandem or triaxle with a Beau-Roc dump body either steel or aluminum... I posted some pictures that I am aiming for....Thanks, Kurt McLucas
  10. Casey... Did we meet or talk....?? I fell bad if we did not...I would have been nice to meet you. It was really HOT that day... Thank you for the comments... Kurt McLucas
  11. Tim... As always..you out did yourself..I love it. After reading another post regarding the "dry" transfer letters....I felt your pain...NEVER AGAIN... I started using them on my recently finished mixer..had lots of issues..went back to a water slide..thats another story in itself... Really looks like the real thing... Kurt Mclucas
  12. Guy's.. Just finished downloading my digital camera, and thought you would enjoy..these. 2008 (MacK Trucks) Macungie, PA truck show..the place was packed, and very hot..Also if you attended..there was several sef guided tours at the Mack Plant...always prretty COOL. Here is the link to My Fotki Album...Enjoy...Kurt McLucas http://public.fotki.com/turbo590/macungie-2008-mackt/
  13. Sorry...Carl, I knew that... Saw..Tony's name in the original post...Cut and paste... Thanks, Kurt McLucas
  14. Tony... Why feel "embarassed" ?? Your build(s) fit right in at the top with others as well. I have seen your build(s)..the painting, the scratch-building, the level of detail you put into them..TOP NOTCH...!! This build is no execption...the color combination just "POPS" the scatch built trailer, and the CAT D8, make a perfect combination. Keep up the good work... Keep them coming...you are an inspiration to all of us as well. Kurt McLucas
  15. Tim... The build turned out awesome...I didn't realize until now..especially with the close up shots..the "Plano" material used for the grill. Boy..does that really add to the detail "level" Also as it was pointed out..using the smaller tires for the triaxle config...nice touch. Two "thumbs" up..... Kurt McLucas
  16. 6-20-08 We'll guys this is it...Completely finished..and even tried some outdoor pictures. Thank you to everyone for the great feedback and comments..Happy Summer and Modeling to all...See you in November for the next build... Kurt McLucas
  17. Guy's... Thank you for all the great comments and ideas...Yeh..this build shaved a few years off of my lifespan allright... The mixer does have some "weathering" done..grease on the chain, oil stains..etc..but keeping it to a minimum..on the cab and tires..a mention was made " mud and crud can accumulate" ..that is all I want at the moment.. The rest of the Microscale decals came yesterday..finishing up the DOT #'s..adding a flag here and there..and I'll post one last shot of the completely finished truck this weekend.. Thanks......Kurt Mclucas
  18. Update... And for some others..pictures now posted of the hood opened, featuring the 300 Maxidyne engine...I didn't have these at the last posting(s).. And for the weathering..keeping it to the cab only for now. It's like having a clean truck entering the loading area (quarry)..For the shoots..I used the Tamiya weatherine master (silver)..paint being rubbed away...And lots off Alclad paint used... Thank you to all for the great comments...Would have been nice for that new look..apparently that wasn't in the cards. The customer likes it..that is all that matters..I guess..Thanks, Guys... Kurt McLucas
  19. 6-15-08 First of all..Happy Father’s day to everyone..who is a DAD!! Second…I can pretty much call this done. I just need to finish adding the US DOT# and a small flag to each of the doors…Mudflap decals, radio/CB antenna…And YES…it is going to get “grime/dirt†afterall. Some please be gentle on me…I am looking for suggestions at this point…. Honestly…I was talking to Sourkraut at the Macungie, PA (Mack) meet yesterday,,,very nice individual…this build has NOT been fun..since the day I started. The REX mixer was severely warped from the factory..and the (2) DM600 (ModelKing) re-pops weren’t that great…I found most of the parts either factory or modified need a lot of help..add some paint…and WOOOO..look out..nothing wanted to fit anymore…I think the “molds†have seen better days…NOT complaining…yes I am…I would rate the kit a 5. 8 months on the build table…(2) DM600 kits, (1) IH Paystar Mixer kit, Rubber hood latches and tires from Jamie (Mo-Luminum)..engine and bullet lights from the Cruiserliner kit, along with the rear and lift axle rims…front rims from Freightliner cabover, made of resin (casted), battery box from the Pete 378, rubber flaps from Sourkraut, Decals are from ME, R-model updated dash (custom) Hose and nozzle from Dave (AITM) Genuine Mack paint (Red/White/Black)..Hydraulic tank (Autocar Dump) A ton of scratch-built items, and heavily modified items. Just to name a few. Now for some much needed R&R. Again, any suggestions of some additional weathering products/techniques would be greatly appreciated. Happy building….Sorry to ramble on. Kurt McLucas
  20. Earth to the Mars Lunar...Mars lunar do you copy?? Late breaking news...YES, another fine Mack out of the Ahlborn camp..DID you say MACK...yes indeed.. Oh..Tim...just messing with you. Had to chime in on this one. You did good on this one. Picking up my repop on the R-model tomorrow at the post office. On changing out the dashboards...I did use the updated R-model on my DM600 mixer...it fit..BUT make note there will be some minor modifications needed to be made..first the pitch..and then for the heating unit...I do believe I have pictures posted elsewhere..Here is a link to my FOTKI album..to see this...I did use the older dashbaord outer rim..and married up the new dasboard..putty it in smooth... http://public.fotki.com/turbo590/1985-86-mack-dm600-/ Again...another vintage build...love seeing them from you. Take care Kurt McLucas
  21. 5-13-08 Well Guy's.. There is a light at the end of the tunnel finally... Instead of adding to the original thread..which now is getting pretty lenghty...I wanted to start something new..to capture the finishing touches on this "beast" as it nears the finish line... If all goes well..another week or two..the final unveiling...Thank you to everyone for the great/kind comments and feedback..Glad to share this with you all..Happy building. Kurt McLucas I am going after the new look..BUT I did add some minor weathering, using the Tamiya weathering master...pretty nice stuff. And..yes my scratch built "chute-cleaner" All the decals you see here are readily available at Sourkraut's Model Truck Parts, http://sourkrautsmodeltrucks.com the mixer decals will be available shortly if interested
  22. 5-8-08 Well, Guy's...... Paint and clear coat are on...Just a little mock up this evening, to install the radiator...Did some plumbing..and decal work..if all goes well..another 2 weeks and I might be able to call it FINISHED!! Just wanted to share a few photo's......Kurt McLucas
  23. 4-11-08 Guy's..... I wanted to post a few pictures on the WIP, Mack triaxle mixer...Some of you have probably seen some other posts on the 300 engine/making of the decals, and just recently the Alcoa wheels...Thank you for all the great comments.... I estimate another good month or so..until the project is completely finished..so here are some "teaser" photo's. As soon as I can get a decent day to primer and paint..the frame fabrication is completed. Also I just completed the interior..just need to add the horn decal button...but it is the stock DM600 tub..with lots of modifications to accept the update Mack R-model dash assembly...customers decals are presently..along with their monthly newsletter on the clipboard...Any and all comments welcomed...Thank you for looking...here is a little recap.... Kurt Mclucas
  24. Dave..... The drum on the rear..I honestly do not know..my guess would be some sort of a "counter-balance".... When I obtained the 300 engine from the Cruiseliner kit...I also incorporated several parts from the orginal DM600 kit as well...thus the tranny..the starter ,and the alternator...can't forget the fan neither.... The decals definately make the piece...come alive. I do all may decals myself...computer generated. The engine will be dropped into a DM600 Triaxle mixer..which has an earlier post...the project is about 85% complete..still waiting on aftermarket parts to complete..slowly but surely..it is coming along.... Here is a link to my FOTKI album..on this build...Mack Triaxle mixer.... http://public.fotki.com/turbo590/ Thank you for all the great comments...and I promise to post more pictures..as it progresses.... Kurt McLucas
