  1. Ryan, The bed is coming along nicely You made the comment " I hope to have a real working tailgate latch with the handle up by the cab time will tell" Trust me as a builder of dump beds/boxes..that is easier said that done...because of the scale, unless you incorporate some brass....I hope you succeed..I'll be keeping an eye open on this one..Good Luck Kurt McLucas
  2. 9/6/2010 Guy's.... Well....After sometime away from building, and with October the 9th (NNL Toledo) right around the corner...I picked up from where I left off earlier in the year....a few days just spent fabricating I ditched the side to side tarp with bows, and went with the traditional tarper to represent the Coal Hauler that is used around the area...Just need to complete the tarp motor housing...the trailer has been in primer for a period of time now....some fine tuning body work has been completed, and off to the paint booth for the gloss black base coat...and 3 bottles of Alclad polished aluminum awaiting. Getting back to building has tough, since I have been in a major "slump" hopefully the "juices" start flowing again...Kurt McLucas LINK to my FOTKI account with additional pictures http://public.fotki.com/turbo590/jj-dynahauleraf-alu/
  3. The engine was an original Clint Freeman 3406E, bought off of Ebay several years ago. It is resin, scaled to 1/24th. I went into my Peterbilt 357 Triaxle Dump Truck that was built.... It would be nice if more CAT aftermarket model parts/products were available...BUT because of the copy right laws, DON'T count on it. This was a gem in the finding and I paid dearly at the time. The engine is no longer sold or produced, since Clint closed up shop several years ago. Kurt
  4. Thanks guy's Kurt Ray the frame was always destined to be aluminum, with blue accents.
  5. Dave, yes they were 1/16th indeed, working lights, etc. I do believe that they might have been R/C as well. Kurt
  6. The colors do "suit" them both well. Tim, I saw the "side flarings" you molded and Dave Natale casted at the NNL East last weekend, you definitely put some time into them. Very nice Kurt
  7. 4/24/2010 (Update) Not much to say..other than I "wish" it was done...shinny though!! Kurt
  8. Just saw it at the Italeri table this past Saturday at the NNL East. Nice box... Shame the picture is incorrect Kurt
  9. Guy's The wait is over...got home safe...and here are some pictures...mostly truck related...some cars...NOT all, that caught my eye...Enjoy http://public.fotki.com/turbo590/24th-annual-nnl-eas/ Spent some good quality time yesterday with Daniel (Plaskit) Gary Wallace (GW Trucks), and Dave Natale (AITM) Kurt
  10. With that type of "span" you might want to add some brass/metal to the frame "splice" for added strength. If not you will have a continuous bow. Kurt
  11. Tim, I made some height corrections to the bulkhead, which had to eliminate the top rail boards. Long story, I should have made the trailer walls shorter in height. It still looks pretty good...the landing gear, feet and all, are all scratch built...that was fun Planning on seeing Jamie sometime soon here in the Spring..we'll have to get together. I got lazy on the tool box...I shortened it up, and made my own hinges..now it functions.... Thank you to everyone for the great feedback. Kurt
  12. 3/13/2010 Guy's The latest in progress...a few more "layers" added. Kurt
  13. Tim... You have been very busy, I see. Is that the same green you used on the Walmart Pete?? I do like it... Great work as always. Kurt
  14. You can't get anymore realistic than using real wood...check this out http://sourkrautsmodeltrucks.com/?page_id=3&category=4&product_id=206'>http://sourkrautsmodeltrucks.com/?page_id=3&category=4&product_id=206 This is available from Sourkraut Model Truck Parts, (http://sourkrautsmodeltrucks.com/) Here is a just completed oil float trailer using the oak wood..and then an "age" it product from MicroMark. Good Luck in your quest..... Kurt
  15. 3/2/2010 Guy's Here is my newest creation, that I can produce in vast quantities. INSTANT genuine "RUST" in a bottle. How realistic can you get. It comes in a glass container, 34oz (22ml). At some point, I have to take a picture in natural sunlight...It is in fine powder form. Apply it to exhaust manifolds..engines/frames...simulate grime ...etc. Apply it to a part lightly with an adhesive ...spray it with a mist of water..age it even more. It is the light color brown associated with rust. This is real powered metal. This is the first batch which turned out well. If there is an interest...please chime in...it will eventually be offered over at Sourkrauts...for 5.00 - 7.00 (bottle included as shown) larger bags will also be offered. Great product at a great price..I think...feedback welcomed... Thanks, Kurt
  16. 2/27/10 Guy's...Some major changes since the last post. Well, another few layers completed. Reworked some more of the bulkhead area, dogbox is completed, air suspension is coming together, just one of many mockups occurring ...height is now in proportion with the tractor...onto the landing gear and hydraulics...Kurt
  17. She'll be a beauty when completed. Kurt
  18. I second that.... Kurt Are the quarter fenders the stock chrome..or are them aluminum??
  19. Jim... Turned out nice indeed. Hope to see it soon Kurt
  20. Looks good.... I see you are using Jamie's rear tires and airbags...its all in the details Kurt
  21. Tim....Thank you No "milling" machine here..all done by hand. I do have my mini table saw from Micromark I bought a few months ago. I recently started using Ambroid "PROWELD" Old dog..new tricks.... Kurt
  22. Dave...Your work is always "TOP" notch....I enjoy seeing the progress, Kurt
  23. Guy's Alot has happen since the original thread started sometime ago. Thus is why the new one. Overcoming some "mishaps", not happy with some results...trying some new processes...I scrapped the last trailer in its entirety..frame/dump box ...everything. Started from scratch again...new frame/new dump box...much happier this time around...now maybe some progress can take place, Kurt Yesterday's and today's progress....starting to take shape..... Simulated weld seams Fully functional operating coal "chute" door
