  1. The parts breakdown is very wrong. Kits that have separate blocks and heads, rocker covers represented correctly, and distributors that don't hover in space but are located correctly to a hole in the block (the block should be considerably longer behind the intake manifold, with the distributor on a vertical shaft coming up from it)...things like that, that go together pretty much like a real one, just make it easier to produce a realistic looking engine. But then I look at this stuff every day, so blobularity of kit parts kinda jumps out at me. Then again, most kits with older Pontiac V8 engines get a lot closer than this one did.
  2. Binoculars are rated as "power" with an "X", as in 30X means 30 power, but I routinely see folks call the "X" wrongly "times".
  3. Excellent idea. I've had one on the list of stuff I need to get, but never seem to follow through on. Since little car is going to be coming back to life but not used regularly, it looks like it's time. Thanks for the reminder.
  4. That stuff's not so much a sealant as a high-temp anti-seize that keeps those slip joints and other hardware from rusting solid.
  5. Broke down and bought a battery and insurance for my little orphan PT Cruiser. The trans is in perpetual "limp mode", and I'll have to drive it some to get it to set all the codes I need to pull out of its brain. I've been putting random batteries in it to warm it up every couple of weeks, but every time I disconnect the battery, it loses the codes...so I need to leave a fresh one in it that has enough beans to not discharge fully if it sits a while. Far as the insurance goes, I can't drive it to diagnose it it it's not insured, and with the expired tag, it's just screaming to get pulled over and impounded...BUT, if it's insured I CAN drive around some for diagnosis, aven on an expired tag. Happily for me, it only takes about 30 seconds online to add or remove a vehicle from my policy, and they only charge me for the days it's on.
  6. "Models" is what some practitioners of less salubrious trades bill themselves as.
  7. Which all just goes to show how really stupid the concept of using the CAN bus to link every electrical component in a car is. Simple systems like lighting, the horn, power windows, wipers, and others can function perfectly fine as stand-alones...but today's insane obsession with making every dammed thing as complicated as possible refuses to acknowledge that. The KISS concept is a thing for a reason. EDIT: I was really glad to see the fellas who liberated that poor oppressed vehicle were being socially responsible and wearing masks, too.
  8. Again and again and again, what start out for me as "simple, quickie" builds run off the rails when I get bogged down in period-correct research.
  9. Good looking, very clean work so far. I bought one of these after seeing one built on this forum, and was pleased overall by the level of detail and overall possibilities. However...the design of the engine in this kit was a big disappointment to me, and I'll be replacing it...but yours looks much better than I'd expected.
  10. Vinyl tires can play bloody jell with plastic model car wheels.
  11. Born to Run is one of my favorite old rock songs.
  12. "Victory" was the name attached to various items of poor quality like cigarettes, gin, and coffee in Orwell's 1984.
  13. The reg came into effect in May of 2018.
  14. Chosen career paths are usually more rewarding than "jobs" that are just fallen into.
  15. "Expensive" is relative; if something costs a lot, beg to borrow money from your relatives.
  16. Pastrami and Swiss on toasted rye, slathered with mayo and Irish mustard, and some sauerkraut and olives on the side...yup, time for lunch.
