  1. "Place" isn't as good as "win", but it's better than "show".
  2. Bridgestone Mud Duelers I snagged at the last Atlanta show in a baggie, for a buck. I have no idea what kit they're from, but they just fit the Plastic Performance Products 6LC '50s-'60s 6 lug Chevy 7 1/2 inch wide wheels.
  3. Thanks for your interest. It's resting on the shelves close to the bench, and I'm seriously considering getting it far enough along to show here in November...butcha just never know.
  4. Barked my shin on an engine block some dumbguy left lying in the aisle.
  5. Keyboard warriors are plentiful.
  6. Shingles, almost half the main roof.
  7. Sometimes, fashions from earlier times were questionable too.
  8. Elegance and grace have been largely replaced by flashy and gaudy.
  9. Good luck with your storm prep. I just had $8000 roof damage at the Az. place from 75MPH winds during a "monsoon" storm, so those of us not in hurricane country aren't immune.
  10. Earrings on a pig don't make it beautiful, but lipstick does.
  11. Boom goes the engine without oil.
  12. "Stuff a big engine in a moderate sized vehicle" was the philosophy behind the birth of muscle cars.
  13. Baking powder and baking soda are not interchangeable.
  14. 1/24 nominal, though it's really more like 1/22 or 1/23...assuming the Danbury Mint version is accurate 1/24. I'm not bothering to get too anal with the scaling and proportions on this one, in the hope of getting it done relatively quickly. Just going for a decent first impression from the angles where it looks OK.
  15. Actual science is somewhat different from popular political- and media-driven perception. https://www.gfdl.noaa.gov/historical-atlantic-hurricane-and-tropical-storm-records/ Quoting now: "based on careful examination of the Atlantic tropical storm database (HURDAT) and on estimates of how many storms were likely missed in the past, it is likely that the increase in Atlantic tropical storm and hurricane frequency in HURDAT since the late-1800s is primarily due to improved monitoring."
  16. I was initially going to go that way, but the frame rails are of different designs, so in keeping with the spirit of how a real car would most likely be built, I decided to stay with the existing '51 frame.
  17. Young isn't what it used to be.
  18. Glad to have you aboard, Ray.
  19. Thanks to all for your interest and comments.
  20. Spirits of the mineral variety will thin some types of paint.
  21. Can't be done. Solvent gloo has melted into the base plastic.
  22. Very nice. WAY-cool paint.
  23. '51 Stude from Johnny Lightning: Stripped first mockup:
  24. Chassis getting de-blobularized: First mockups. Six bolt wheels required because of the GM truck rear end swap, in the spirit of how it might have been built in the pre-Ford 9" days. Front hubs would be drilled to match so as to only carry one type of spare wheel.
  25. Starting with a cheap Johnny Lightning diecast bought just for this build. Body has some proportion issues I was gonna fix, but I'd get bogged down as usual, and I'd kinda like to have this one presentable by the end of the CBP in December. Disassembly: Stripping: Pre-modded chassis:
