Ford GT Monogram, 1/25
Eric Macleod replied to Eric Macleod's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Rich, that helps a lot. I have a few things to correct but as you said in your post, I don't want to attempt to correct the flaws in the kit, just have fun with it. I'm trying to decide if I want to attempt to paint the black stripes on either side of the orange stripe. While a lot can go wrong, it would surely look better. If I can make my build 10% as nice as yours I will be happy. -
You are definitely the master of these big American cars. The Continental Mark IV was dreaming car as a teenager. Well done.
-
I like your colors much better than the orange over silver of the original car. Very nice.

I have not touched a model kit in nearly two years. I decided it was time to exit the hobby and do other things. Going through my kits in preparation to start selling things off I came across this kit. It was already in primer and was a bit of a "back to my roots " purchase. As a teenager I would go to the local hobby store, pick out a model with some visual appeal, buy it and take it home for paint and assembly. I am taking a similar course with this model. I am making no attempt to "correctly build it," so if you are a rivet counter you will be disappointed. Instead, I just want to have fun with it and have something with good shelf appeal. Here is my progress report as I started spraying paint Thursday.

I think all three are impressive but that third image looks like a post card photo taken decades ago. I'm betting that's exactly what you were trying to achieve.

I like it. I appreciate what can be done with the Shape ways parts.

Beautiful model and one to be proud of. I like it.

1/24 [Italeri] 1934 Rolls-Royce Phanthom II
Eric Macleod replied to Cuba_13's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I would certainly be proud of this fabulous model. Well done. It's my kind of car. -
This is looking fantastic. Your attention to detail is excellent...and inspiring. I have to ask. What is the orange roadster in the background? I continue to watch this most excellent model. Since we last chatted, my interest in this project, and Classic Cadillacs has increased.

Just a rumor. Black certainly aided in the efficiency of the assembly line as there was only one color on everything, but as I mentioned earlier, not all of them were black. Interestingly, all three of my 1:1 Ts are black now, and all three exhibit evidence that they were green when they were new.

Actually, not true. "Any color so long it is black" did not come along until 1914. That saying was true until early in the 1926 model year. By late October 1926 you could get a Model T Touring (or runabout) in black (of course), Phoenix brown or Gunmetal blue. The closed cars were mostly either Windsor maroon or Chanel green. By 1927 it was any car, any color with Drake green and Dawn gray added to the palate. Yellow did not come along until the '29 Model A in Bronson Yellow on the Cabriolet.

I don't know which is more impressive, your model making skill or your artful photography. Either way, you remain a true master.

This remains my favorite thread David. I am going to follow your latest build of the '57 with greatest interest.

My 9 year old daughters AMT 70 impala
Eric Macleod replied to Lowridingmike's topic in WIP: Model Cars
This is among the best threads I have ever seen on this forum. I am going to show my 9 and 11 year old girls this whole thing in the hopes that we can follow in your footsteps. Thank you for sharing and I will look forward to seeing more of her work. -
Really it is. I'd be interested to see how it would look after the Dann Tier treatment.

Exactly. I'm still debating whether I want to attempt to paint the fender mouldings. Right now I am thinking no.

I found this in my stash. Someone started it years ago and never finished it. They brush painted it so I could have stripped it and started over, but why? Instead I decided to finish it as is and enjoy it. Two hours of work later here is the result. Clearly not a show winner, it was a fun quick build.
-
Holy smokes! Does anybody know how much work you are seeing here? These represent a truly Herculean challenge as these are both models that do not exist in a box. Right hand drive, custom bumpers, scratch built hood panels, rerouted exhaust, scratch built interiors, hand laced wheels, and on and on. These are nothing short of fabulous! I am absolutely blown away by one...but two one-offs? Amazing work here.

Your work on this office is sublime as always. Your thread remains my favorite place to visit, even as I gradually exit the hobby.

Any progress on this one lately?

What do you drive?

That's pretty funny. -
Very, very nice. These are some of my favorite kits ever made and (obviously) build up beautifully. Yours looks fabulous!
-
That came out beautifully. You have good reason to be proud if it!

What do you drive?
Eric Macleod replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just added one last month. It is my first real "capital C Classic" convertible. The car is a 1937 Cadillac Series 70 convertible sedan with a Fleetwood body. I saw the car for sale in St. Louis advertised on Craigslist. I took a gamble on it, purchasing it sight unseen but with tons of photos. Not a perfect car, it was still really nice for a car that was restored in 1963. It needs a few things before I can drive it but will be a wonderful show and go vehicle.
