I agree that this may not be the best kit to build but I already own it and it would be a shame to leave it sitting in the box. Gary I appreciate knowing GT numbers that would be appropriate which should help me with details.

I agree. I have a version of this kit built up into a roadster but it took a LOT of work to get it there. This model us a convertible coupe.

I wonder if we could talk Round 2 into a Lincoln Roadster with the golf clubs restored.

Tamiya 1/24 Mazda MX-5 Miata NA BRG Edition
Eric Macleod replied to Italianhorses's topic in WIP: Model Cars
That is looking great! -
Excellent assistance folks. I have been thinking of something as a simple in between build before diving back into a more complicated model. It looks like the GT 40 might be just the right thing. Maybe do an uncomplicated out of box build. Almost the moment I hit the post button I saw the other thread about these so I'll read that through also. Thanks again for the help.

The last two major subassemblies are in the final stages, the top and the trunk, thought the jury is still out on the windshield. I have a bit more to finish on the top and the trunk needs quite a bit of work. Here's the progress from tonight.

Tamiya 1/24 Mazda MX-5 Miata NA BRG Edition
Eric Macleod replied to Italianhorses's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Probably not the same car. To this day my '95 M remains my favorite car ever. -
So I just watched the excellent Ford vs. Ferrari movie last night. Now I have a need to build a Ford GT 40. Have any of you out there in model building land build the Monogram version? This kit has been on my shelf for a while and I think I need to build it once the L-29 (in the background) is done. I'm curious how it goes together.

Tamiya 1/24 Mazda MX-5 Miata NA BRG Edition
Eric Macleod replied to Italianhorses's topic in WIP: Model Cars
My third Miata was a '95 Merlot M-Ed. I bought it used from a dealership in Ohio. It had been traded in by a single woman bought it new and who traded it in. It would be strange it was the same car. I agree with the others; the BRG paint looks absolutely beautiful. -
I am very excited to see this one back out. Once upon a time, long before the miracle of the internet was created, this was my Holy Grail kit. I will most certainly buy a couple of these.

Tamiya 1/24 Mazda MX-5 Miata NA BRG Edition

I hear you that the pop ups are neat but I have always thought the car looked a little like a frog when they were open. The same goes for a Cord 810. -
Tamiya 1/24 Mazda MX-5 Miata NA BRG Edition
Eric Macleod replied to Italianhorses's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I have done two, one in red over black and the other Merlot Mica ('95 M-edition) with tan (both cars I have owned in 1:1). I still want to add one in black over red, '93 SE, and of course the '91 SE in BRG. I look forward to seeing how this comes out. -
Today I worked on the modifications of the trunk. Here I tood sections out of a Duesenberg Town Car trunk to make the appearance match that of an L-29 trunk. Lots of putty will be needed.

I hate to disappoint but this one is a curbside, so the only running gear that can be seen is the undercarriage. I made a pragmatic decision to eliminate the engine. My thinking was either I try to finish it full detail, and flail in the weeds, or actually finish, knowing that I only open the hoods on rare occasions anyway.

You know how you get to that place with a model where all of a sudden you can't leave it alone? I'm there. While a couple things are still in need of attention, we're getting close. The interior is in and done save for a final trimming at the tops of the doors and gluing down the seats. Both axles are in place permanently. I still have to finish the top, trunk and windshield but man are we close now.

Tamiya 1/24 Mazda MX-5 Miata NA BRG Edition

I agree about the color selection. The Miata has always been one of my most favorite cars on earth. I will look forward to watching this come together. -
Ive been waiting for a can of dullcoat to arrive and it finally did. The seats are done. You know you are getting close when you're putting in the interior. I never thought I would say this but I realized I am probably only 3-4 hours away from completion.

I would go for just about anything as well but how about an American Underslung, Mitchell, Lozier or maybe an early Regal. Something big. That said, I agree that my first choice would be the Mercer. For a very long time I have thought that was the biggest gaping hole in model car kits. Well, that and a '32 Packard Twin Six Dietrich phaeton.
-
You are both correct. Part of the challenge is that it have a very different skillset now than I had when I started. That being said, it will be tremendously satisfying when this actually crosses the finish line.

Here's the latest on this project. I am working on the trunk and the dash. I painter the dash and used the Molotov Chrome pen. I give it about a C+ at this point. I am also narrowing the Duesenberd sourced trunk to be more in keeping with the appearance of a Cord. More to come soon. When you start adding flocking material you know that you are getting close.

Nothing not to like here. I like this a whole lot.

What did you see on the road today?
Eric Macleod replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is especially true considering these cars are in southwest Michigan! -
I like this a lot. I once had a '50 Buick Jetback that was this same bodystyle. These are great looking cars and your model captures the look beautifully. Nicely done.

Yes they do, as does Holley. I have one of my cars there now and the place looks like an indoor car show. -

I saw the motherlode all at one repair shop. A '49 Lincoln Cosmopolitan, a '50 Buick Roadmaster and a VW convertible. None were exactly jewels but all were fun to look at. The Lincoln was a real sleeper as it has a Ford 390 under the hood.
