  1. This certainly looks great. I probably do have a spare front bumper but not so sure on the radiator cap and hood ornament. This is good to know that the later kits are challenging as I have built all of these kits (the pre-white box era) both as a kid and as an adult and thought they were a breeze. Either way, yours is impressive.
  2. I agree. The Imperial was blatant copy of the Cord L-29 but to a lot of eyes (including mine) the Imperial was a significant improvement.
  3. I have another long term project (25 +years) that I want to knock off the "to do" list. I have already completed the first two-thirds of the set, having built a model 734 Speedster Runabout, Speedster Phaeton, Speedster Roadster and Speedster Sedan. To be completed, I need to finish the Speedster Victoria and Speedster Coupe, though I will probably still want to build a new Speedster Runabout as mine is only of "so-so" quality. Only one 1:1 Speedster Victoria remains, though I think the color combination is so unattractive that I probably will try to duplicate it in original form instead of the restored version. The coupe no longer is extant but to really have the complete set I will build it also. Here is the roughed together Speedster Victoria. I will try to upload some other images. I have a photo of the Victoria, which is a larger series 1931 845 that is pretty yet it fails to have the same grace as the lighter 734 but it does provide an idea of where I'm going with this model.
  4. I have seen a 5 passenger sedan locally ( a professor at one of the local higher ed institutions restored the car in his spare time) and it is a truly stunning car. Indeed a sedan transkit would be interesting, though not a job for the feint of heart. I'm looking forward to adding a couple of these to my collection.
  5. You never disappoint my friend. I'll be watching this with great interest.
  6. Here's the '30 Packard 734 Speedster Victoria. I'd forgotten just how ugly it is at this stage. I had a false start with the chassis maybe 10 years ago and got the body shells (it's going to take 3-4) stripped. And here we are.
  7. I'm going to finish the long slowed project (now a nearly 25 year project) to build an example of all of the 1930 Packard 734s. This round I'll do the Speedster Victoria. The Speedster Coupe will probably have to wait until Round 9.
  8. Count me in though I have to narrow down the dead. You are absolutely right about never getting done without this project. The Cord languished on and off for nearly 40 years but thanks to your push it got done. I appreciate you shepherding us through.
  9. I personally consider myself to be in the bottom 10% in terms of skillset on this forum. Part of that is tools. Some is eyesight and some simply physical dexterity. That being said, I do the best I can; I strive for better and I keep trying to acquire more skills. All the while, it has to be fun. Part of that fun is admiring the considerable skills of others who are willing to share with the rest of us. For that I am grateful.
  10. I agree. This is really cool.
  11. Considering what you started with this is nothing short of amazing.
  12. Pico, this one slipped by me. It is absolutely fantastic and a real inspiration to take the time to learn the software. Fabulous work as always.
  13. I too built this one as a kid and discovered the hard way it's not for beginners. Your have certainly done a fine job it.
  14. I am just seeing this thread for the first time. Your work is jaw dropping. I'll certainly be watching this with interest.
  15. Glad to have you along. I was thinking, as I released the body for a swim that will no doubt remove all the body putty, " I probably should have started over from scratch." Oh well...here we go.
  16. Sometimes it takes black paint...in this case to show the previously invisible cracks in both doors. The freshly painted body is now gently relaxing in a pond of purple.
  17. You are absolutely right there. I have go finish the trunk and adjust it. I still have thoughts about adding a red pinstripe but I'm not sure if it will look good.
  18. Here is the progress after a good cleaning, wet sanding, and masking. There will be a lot of touching up to do but this is a start. As for colors, i have obviously decided about the color of the body and fenders but I really haven't decided about the interior, though I am leaning toward Charlie's dark tan suggestion.
  19. I continue to be amazed by your quality and speed. The colors you have selected are outstanding.
  20. I decided to go ahead with a partial teardown and recolor. I have not found a picture of the car as it appears today, though the engine now appears to be powering a Murphy Town Car. As nobody seems to know the original color of the car I am going with the consensus best guess: black with some sort of contrasting interior color. Here's the project as of 11:00 this evening.
  21. Sure looks spot on to me. I like all the little details around the marker lights and mouldings. It's a bit hard to tell if this is 1:24 or 1:1 scale.
  22. Looks like the same color scheme Kent Marburger used on his 1:1 '30 745. Nice looking model. I like it.
