  1. Clean, almost sanitary build. Great paint, and foil job. I just love those old kits. People can say whatever they want about the advantages of modern tooling kits, but like the old cars the old kits depict, you have to deal with the good and bad aspects that come along with the age of the subject. Among my favorites are the AMT '57 Chevy (the old tool), the AMT '57 Ford, the AMT '65 and '66 Galaxies, and all versions of the AMT '40 Ford. The guys that designed those kits were contemporary to the guys that designed the real cars, those kits have a feeling that I call "back in the day" that no computer designed "wonder" will ever have. At least this is what I think.

  4. After finishing my 1940 Ford SD, I thought I could build one more kit in 2012. Like I have a factory stock 1951 Chevy alredy built, I decided to build one as a 1950's hotrod. Started on the 20th painting the body, and finished today. It's far from perfect, after all, it's just a three day build, and I never have the same care on building a modiffied car than I have building something factory stock, but I think that in general it turned out ok. The paint is Tamiya Metallic Green over Tamiya Gun Metal. Thanks for looking!!!

  6. Guys, i'm really honored by your comments!! Thanks again. Now that Bernard said, I noticed that yes, I really misplaced the post. I'm sorry about that!! I don't know how to move it, so if any of the moderators find it necessary, please, be my guest. About the paint, I did it with a Tamiya spray can. The secret with Tamiya paint, is NOT to use any primer, and to spray in a heated room. Believe me, that stuff bonds to the plastic without the need of any primer. I just sand the mold lines, and then sand the entire thing with 2000 grid sandpaper, the one used to polish 1:1 cars paints, just to smooth the places were the mold lines were with the rest of the surface. I built a little cabinet inside my garage, just big enough for me and the model, and before painting, I heat it up with an portable heater untill it's about 30 degree Celsius. Then give two mist coats of paint, folowed by more four or five wet (really wet) coats. Don't worry if some detail disapear, when the apint dries, they will all be there, you just have to avoid the paint to run. 90% of times I don't have to buff out the finish.

  8. First I would like to thank everybody for the kind comments on my gluebomb. Thanks a lot!!! Greg, the taillights are stock 1940 Ford. They are not correct for a 1940 SEDAN DELIVERY, but are correct for a '40 Ford Deluxe passenger car, and are what AMT put in the box. The only parts that are not original to the kit are the rear licence plate moldure with light, that are from a Monogram '55 Ford panel van, the trim rings on the wheels, headlights, hubcaps and aerial, that are from a Lindberg '40 Ford because they were missing from this kit when I got it, but the Lindberg parts were direct replacements to the AMT originals.
  9. I just finished her yesterday. Had to do steal some parts from a Lindberg '40 Ford to finish the Delivery, as the kit was not complete when I got it, but it ended out ok I guess. The AMT kit is NOT correct for a Delivery tough. The rear fenders are different from the ones on the passenger cars that were included in the kit. The Sedan delivery fenders are thinner at the rear ends, plus the correct taillight on the Sedan delivery sits on a pole bolted to the body, and it doubles as a licence plate holder. In place of that, the kit has the usual '40 Ford car taillights, and no pole to put the licence plate on. To remedy that, instead of rebuilding the fenders, I went the easy way, and got a licence plate holder from a '55 Ford panel van and glued it to the cargo door of the '40. I think it looks even nicer this way, with passenger car taillights and the licence plate on the rear door. I was going to finish her with blackwall tires, as it was a rare sight a sedan delivery with whitewalls back in the day, but at the very end, I couldn't resist. I confess, I'm a whitewall addict The paints used were Tamiya TS-11 Maroon for the body, and Testors acrylics for all the rest. Thanks for looking!!

  13. I built 12 cars this year, and with some luck, will be finishing a '40 Ford Sedan Delivery before 2013 arrives.   15. Loved this one. The grille looks great. Also liked the air cleaner, and the cool Thunderbird Special valve cover decals. The exhaust is also a cool touch, it looks like to be a 3 inch tube in 1:25 scale. The supercharged 312 will sound Chevy killer trough that!!!
  16. I like it a lot, even though I like factory stock cars better. A nice touch is the FE engine, a good old FoMoCo engine.
  17. Well, there is no manufacturer name on the box. On the lift itself ther is just a "Made in China" lettering and that's it.
  18. That lift I got at my hobby shop. It's not a kit or anything, it cames ready to "work". Thought it was so cool that I couldn't resist.
  19. Thanks for the comments guys!! That little car lift really works: Both '57 Fors were already posted here. The one with the red wheels didn't have the baby moons, but the rest of the car was the same. The engine is a supercharged 312. I have a love afair with the '57 Ford, always thought it to be the nicest car of the 1950s.

  23. The wipers are the separate chrome plastic parts that come with the kit. Out of paint and foil, I only used parts that came in the box. This is a relly great kit if you ask me. It's from the same era of the AMT '58 edsel, '62 catalina, '58 Plymouth Fury, etc, and has very good detail and fit.
  24. To paint the interior, first I gave a coat of Testors light blue enamel, than masked with Tamiya masking tape, than gave a coat of Testors acrylic blue mixed to the tone I wanted. After the masking was removed, I gave a coat of semi gloss clear over the seats, and brush painted the cloth areas with flat clear.
