She's a beauty!! I love that car, and I'm a die hard Ford guy. Your choice of color and foiling are both very good. I would be pround of having her on my collection.

Some outside pictures: Thanks for looking again!!!

WOW!!! She can be real proud of her Bentley!!! This gives me hope for the future, specially when you compare with what other kids use to do with their free time. Well done young Lady!!!

Thanks you all for the nice and kind words. very appreciated, you can count on that. The color I used on the model is Tamiya TS-11 Maroon, that looks 99% close to the original Ford color Mandarin Maroon. you can have the paint mixed and don't get as close as Tamiya is straight from the spray can. If you prefere to airbrush, you can decant the paint fron the can, and use it on the airbrush as well. If you want to go with another color, and still look factory stock, you can use Tamiya TS-15 Blue, that is almost a perfect match for Ford's Washington Blue.

Thanks!!! Most of my builds are factory stock replicas. I can count on one hand's fingers my non stock builds.

Just finished this '40 Sedan. It's a box stock build of an 1986 AMT kit. Paint is Tamiya TS-11 on the body, and testors carylics for all the rest. Thanks for looking!!!

I have the Hendrix body. Needs so much cleaning, and sanding, and fixing, that's easier to do what you did and convert the AMT body. If I'm building a vintage AMT kit as a box stock build, I couldn't care less for the mold seams on the chrome. It it weren't by the AMT kits or Monogram ant their subjects, I would never had got into building models. When those kits were developed, they did the best they could, and I appreciate thata a lot. They didn't have today's computer technology, CAD, etc, and came with great kits, like the '57 Fairlane, the '58 Impala, the '51 Chevy Fleetline, the '61 Ranchero, the '65, and '66 Galaxies, etc. AMT is my alltime favorite model company. Thank you AMT guys very much.

I've being without time for building a new model. I like to start and finish a model within a resonable time, let's say a week, or two at most, but I have a '40 Ford sedan sitting inside his box with only the body painted for more than a month without being touched. Last weekend a friend of mine, knowing I had a VW bug kit he was looking for, called me, and I went to his house to make some deal with him. I ended trading the bug with a AMT '51 Chevy Fleetline that was still sealed. While we were talking I spoted, inside a cabinet in his working room what I thought to be the rear fin of a '57 bel Air. He showed me the model, that was sitting among a pile of old spray cans, paint cans, tools and a compressor. It was a scratched and very dirty 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air, to be more precise, the Monogram 1/12 scale edition of it he had built back in the late '80s. I went home with two Chevys. I took the '57 apart, and washed it with care. The paint was in bad shape, but I wanted something to do only over the weekend, so I decided to clean and polish the paint the best I could, and only rebuild the frame and engine, doing some weathering, to make the car to look like a barn find that someone rescued, and made roadworthy again. That's how the Chevy was when I brought it home: And this is after I did some "restoring" to it:

58 IMPALA JUNKER! another old build of mine
Lovefordgalaxie replied to bryan_m's topic in Model Cars
Looks amazing. Parts only? Don't you have the title for it? -
Great Edsel Collin!! I had my share of Edsel builds, none with flames, but when one builds a model, the one it's supposedto be pleased is you, and if you like the flames, say no more!!! I really appreciate your foiling, and the paint is super. I think the Edsel is a very good looking car, and you managed to make it look agressive in that street rod vibe. I would love to see a picture of what's under the hood...

Sorry I forgot to answer sooner. The paint is Tamiya Mica red, straight from the spray can, it's not candy, it's metallic. I gave a littlemore efect using the Tamiya Pearl Clear, so it's kind os a metalic and perolized paint job. The silver is just a base, because the Tamiya Mica Red paint is very transparent, and would require lots of coats if not by the silver base. Using a gold base, you can get a different shade or red, a little darker.

I really appreciate the comments guys!! My Ford is reading them too, and he's insuportable right now. He's like "I'm the best fu**** model car in display here in this fu**** shelf!!"
-
Not model cars, I was talking about 1:1 cars. I don't do any modification that can't be reversed, and I try to do the same with the models, to represent cars that are customs, but can be reversed to stock condition once again.
-
It already looks good, but if you foil it, well, then it will be perfect!!
-
Thanks for the comments!! I agree with you Bill, 100%. For me, the most chalenging was the '58 Impala, at least untill now. My 1/12 scale '57 Bel Air was close, but just because of the size, and it used an entire bare metal envelope.

I got this Ford online, already built. I planned to use it just as spare parts, but ended taking it apart and doing a rebuild. I turned it into a 1960's style custom, nothing radical, and also nothing that couldn't be reversed back to stock on a real car. That's my main goal when I do something non stock, being able to reverse it to stock, and don't ruining the car. The before pictures:

Thanks for all the imput!! This AMT kit was built many years ago, and it was my second try on a '49 Mercury. The first one was painted with another brand of paint, and it ruined the body.
-
This one is an old build I got cleaned and waxed. The colors of some detail are not very accurate, but all in all it's the way I would like a '49 Merc, just how it left the factory.
-
Beautiful, just beautiful. If it had big wheels and a V8 it would be just another hot roded Chevy. Instead of being just a Chevy, your is THE Chevy. Very very well done. Build a stock '32 Ford, and I'll be the president of your fan club.
-
For sure looks great. I just wish the underside of the kit were more detailed, not your fault anyway.
-
Zombie killer!!!!!!! killer job by the way

Thanks for all the feedback!! I built this model in three days, and wanted to test how would a all acrylic paind would look like. Now I'm gonna put some more time and effort on building a factory stock 1932 Ford.
