Starting on the big models.
Lovefordgalaxie replied to Mrdarkmonkey96's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
When I started building big scale kits, the very first one was the Monogram 1969 Camaro, in 1/12 scale. Also in 1/12 scale, and still findable on eBay at many price ranges is my favorite large scale kit, the 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Sports Coupe. This kit was released by Monogram in the 1980s, and re-released a few years ago by Revell. There is even a comemorative version to celebrate the '57 Chevrolet's 50th anniversary. They are very simple to build, have no issues, and don't have a ton of parts like the newer 1/12 scale kits, so, they are a gret starting point. On the 1/16 scale kits, AMT has a great kit of the 1956 Ford Thunderbird, also findable on eBay. AMT also have a 1/16 scale 1964 Mustang, but the kit is not that good. -
Thanks guys!!

Yes, you are right. I don't recall if the box had a model year or not... I built her more than 10 years ago, so I'm not sure about why I used the year 1996, and even had a 1996 licence plate installed on her

Last week, a friend of mine started building a AMT 1962 T-Bird, and he's going with the custom wheels. As he knew I was after a set of the factory stock wire wheels, he gave them to me. This is the result: 1957 Fairlane with new wheels by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1957 Fairlane with new wheels by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1957 Fairlane with new wheels by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1957 Fairlane with new wheels by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1957 Fairlane with new wheels by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr '57 Fairlane 500 by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr

I agree with Bandit :D -
I loved it!! You won't believe, but the color looks close to the factory Fiesta Rangoon Red, a original '65 Lincoln color.

The other day I was cleaning and waxing some of my old builds, and I "foud" my 1996 Mustang GT and thought in sharing it with you guys. I built this one around 1999, or maybe 2000 from a Revell kit of the Boss Shinoda Mustang. I didn't like the decals, the front spoiler, and the wheels, so I used the wheels from a snap kit to kind of reverse it to a regular Mustang. I pinted the turn signals wrong, and also did other mistakes, but it turned out ok. The paint used on the body was a spray can automotive red from Sherwin Williams's Colorgin brand. 1996 Ford Mustang GT by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1996 Ford Mustang GT by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1996 Ford Mustang GT by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1996 Ford Mustang GT by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1996 Ford Mustang GT by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1996 Ford Mustang GT by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1996 Ford Mustang GT by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr

That's a nice looking FE V8 engine.

Torino for sure.

I used automotive paint, mixed at a auto paint store. When I built this one I still used spray can clear, the most part from Tamiya, but the best result come with the use of automotive two part clear as well.

The color is dark blue metallic. It's a match for two original Ford colors, Nocturne Caspian Blue and Classic Blue

I built some big scale kits, but never had the patience to super detail them, going almost ever with box stock builds. The last one I built was my favorite large scale, the Monogram 1957 Chevy Bel Air. It's box stock, but the stainless steel exhaust tips. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lovefordgalaxie/7613300028/'> http://www.flickr.com/photos/lovefordgalaxie/7613300028/'>More Bel Air Shots by http://www.flickr.com/people/lovefordgalaxie/'>Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/lovefordgalaxie/7613300978/'> http://www.flickr.com/photos/lovefordgalaxie/7613300978/'>More Bel Air Shots by http://www.flickr.com/people/lovefordgalaxie/'>Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/lovefordgalaxie/7613302068/'> http://www.flickr.com/photos/lovefordgalaxie/7613302068/'>More Bel Air Shots by http://www.flickr.com/people/lovefordgalaxie/'>Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/lovefordgalaxie/7613303092/'> http://www.flickr.com/photos/lovefordgalaxie/7613303092/'>More Bel Air Shots by http://www.flickr.com/people/lovefordgalaxie/'>Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/lovefordgalaxie/7613303828/'> http://www.flickr.com/photos/lovefordgalaxie/7613303828/'>More Bel Air Shots by http://www.flickr.com/people/lovefordgalaxie/'>Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/lovefordgalaxie/7613304770/'> http://www.flickr.com/photos/lovefordgalaxie/7613304770/'>More Bel Air Shots by http://www.flickr.com/people/lovefordgalaxie/'>Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/lovefordgalaxie/7613308068/'> http://www.flickr.com/photos/lovefordgalaxie/7613308068/'>More Bel Air Shots by http://www.flickr.com/people/lovefordgalaxie/'>Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/lovefordgalaxie/7613310200/'> http://www.flickr.com/photos/lovefordgalaxie/7613310200/'>More Bel Air Shots by http://www.flickr.com/people/lovefordgalaxie/'>Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/lovefordgalaxie/7074202417/'> http://www.flickr.com/photos/lovefordgalaxie/7074202417/'>1957 Chevrolet Bel Air by http://www.flickr.com/people/lovefordgalaxie/'>Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr

Yes, more pictures, please!!! If there is a kit I love, it's this one.

Great build!!! This car in person is unbeliveable tiny, looks like a real baby Corvette. I know a guy that removed the stock engine from one, and installed a 250 Chevy six into it. gearbox was from a Dodge Dart, and rear end was from a Ford Maverick, with a shortened housing to fit the Opel. That thing was a widow maker...

Those pre painted AMT kits are kind of a lottery. You can get one with a perfect paint, and can as well get one with some odd defects. I have three of them, one built stock, one still sealed in the box, and the other I converted into a early 1960's custom repainting the body with Tamiya Mica red. Your models looks sharp, and very well put together. I would just swap the valve covers. Not that the ones you used are not cool, by the contrary, they are very cool, but they are Windsor valve covers, for Small Block Fords, and the Edsel Pacer's engine, the E-400 is a FE block. The AMT Edsel has some problems, and among them, a engine that is way too small, so the valve covers from a 302 can fit it, but are not correct for it. I would use some BMF, or Alclad II to "chrome" the valve covers from the kit.
