Just be very careful when pushing one with another car... Very very careful. -
Gone forever

OUCH!!! That has to hurt. If foul play was not involved, it's yet another reason to always have a battery disconnect device on your old car. The building looks like it was well maintained, and reasonably new, but sometimes this kind of stuff happens. One faulty circuit protector plus a peak in voltage, can result in a fire. -

Thanks!! The right kind of bucket seats huh? Maybe a set from a '65 or '66 Galaxie would be cool. Now a non Y engine on a '56... I''m not a fan of. Love the Y so much. Drive one daily. The only better sounding engine is the flathed Ford V8. On the tires, we agree 100%!! I think if the thing has no whitewall, or at least a white line, and doesn't have ate least 5 inches of rubber for me to apply tire dress on, it's not a tire. And that ugly big inch wheels? UGH!!! 15 inch is big enough. Try hitting a pothole with a tire that is a finger thick... I swear I don't get what people think nowadays. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but for me nothing beats factory steel wheels, factory dog dish caps, and a nice set of Firestone Wide Ovals (the realdeal, not the "new and improved" radial fake for sissies). Yeah, if my car were a victim on the overhaulin' show, I would probably beat the shait out of Foose, and have him to pay for a factory stock fix on the car. -
I always thought a Cobra bike would look nice. Cut the fenders from the body following a line right in the middle of the headlight, do the same on the other side of the car, and make a bike to fit under it. The biker would sit on top of what used to be the doors.

LOL!!!! Looks like a sewing machine and a Cobra had a kid. It's for sure unique. Installing VW air cooled engines on 1:1 replica cars or even original "sports cars" was a trend here in Brasil from the late '60s well into the '80s. Google some of those cars, and you will have fun. MP Lafer Lorena GT Puma GT Bianco S Bianco Tarpan Thunder Phor and many others made in smaller numbers.

There is a detail I'm not 100% happy about. It's the air cleaner. Decided to scratchbuild one, that is closer to the factory stock E code cleaner of 1956, but still having that aftermarket performance part vibe. -

Gluey finger prints? That's heavy. Got a Revell '57 Ford built almost for free that had gluey fingerprints even on the glass and chassis. Like I just wanted the engine to install on a '51 Chevy... Couldn't make myself to bin it tough. Will end dechroming it, and making replacement glass to build it as a gaser or something like that. Thanks a lot!!! Thanks!! -

Very nicely done, and great color choice. Just one thing: I think it's a easy fix. Just finish inserting the wheels into the tires. They are not all the way in. It will improve the already great looks of the car.

Thanks!! The times that happened to me, the culprit was a too "hot" primer, and / or paint. Most non modeling paints are hot enough to do that. The same is true to primers. Even if no ill effect is noticed immediately. On this car I used a primer by Lukscolor that is designed to protect Styrofoam from their line of enamel spray paints. It works great on protecting plastic from almost any paint. The only other product I have used that does the same job is Tamiya Primer Surfacer. It's kind of pricey, but if you want granted results, it's worth the money, specially after you spent a lot of time on bodywork. Thanks!!! Thank You!! -

Thanks!! This is maybe the nicest part about those little models. They can bring back some cool memories Thank You Bill. Very appreciated. Thanks a lot Jürgen!! Back in 1997, when I was in college in the city of Blumenau, a close friend had a light blue Taunus, just like this in your picture. At the time I was driving a '95 Chevrolet (Opel) Astra 5 door hatchback, and I remember the Taunus being a bit smaller than the Astra. Talk about shrinking!! . -

Thanks a lot. Yeah, building that would had being a burden, and the result probably would also had being poor. I have nothing against who builds models with those huge wheels, and or adds to that the '80s or '90s style, but I really hate those things, and when you build something you don't like, the end result can't be good. I'm not a anti-hot rod guy, but I only like those that are done as if the car was bought brand new, and had some performance upgrades. All parts being contemporary to the car. Thanks!! -

Thanks guys!! Great to hear that. Looks like you are making your own foil as I do. I say, go for it!! Old but really nice kit to build. Thanks!! When I built this one I went with the politics of less is more, and thus the basic black and white color combo inside and out. Thanks! Thank you!! Thanks. You nailed my thoughts on building a non stock model. I imagine mods that on a 1:1 scale car could be reversed, and the car brought back to showroom stock. I also have a deep dislike by the huge wheels that seem to be in fashion those days. Build the car the way the original plan was, would have being a real burden, and I would built by obligation rather than by love. The result would have being bad, both in quality, and in taste. -

Finished yesterday. Commission build. My customer wanted a big block FE powered 1956 Ford street rod, with bucket seats, console, a light sand colored interior, lowered suspensions, and some hideous steam locomotive wheels with rubber bands for tires from Pegasus he gave me. Got the kit, and started working. he also wanted side trim delete and color coded chrome a lá '80s. About two days into the project I gave up on the commission and bought the customer a new kit to replace his. I couldn't build such a monstrosity out of such a beautiful car as a 1956 Ford Fairlane Victoria. Had already sanded the side trim, so the car wouldn't be stock, but for sure wouldn't be one of those phuking mixes between a classic car, and total tasteless newer parts. The FE V8 was from my parts box, and there it remains. That engine doesn't belong on a '56 Ford. In it's place, I used the correct engine for the car, the 312 Y-Block Y8 with a few twists. Dual quad intake, and dual quad Holley 4000 "teapot" carburetors. Front and rear suspensions remained stock, with stock tires and bare steel wheels up front and wider steel wheels plus cheater slicks on the back. Front tires are my own cast. Rear tires are the kit supplied parts, that I cut a groove on and installed resin wide whitewall inserts on. The body was then painted black with old automotive enamel that expired in 2014... I (bought 1 liter back them, and the paint is still quite good, not to mention I still have about enough to paint more three cars). On the interior, no bucket seats. only the stock black and white vinyl that would come from the factory. Some gauges under the dash, and we are good to go. For safety, a set of seat belts on the front seat. Other than the tires, all parts came with the kit. The result is basically what I would have done in 1956 if I wanted to do some stop light duels. Build started on Monday, and ended on Saturday. I needed to redeem myself from the three months spent on the last kit. Hope you guys like her!! I don't know how I missed this one. For sure my kind of build. Can never go wrong with black!! Finish looks great, specially for your first airbrush job. Had this kit in the stash, but traded it for a AMT '57 Thunderbird. I always thought the headlight bezels to be kind of off somehow. Kind off too thick.

AMT '58 3-in-1 Annual Edsel Custom Original Paint Rebuild!
Lovefordgalaxie replied to John Goschke's topic in Model Cars
I really loved this one. My kind of custom. Funny how AMT got the front bumpers right back in the day, and made them too fat on the new tool Edsel. Built this one from one of the predecorated kits that had a real bad defect on the paint. The color is Tamiya Mica red over gold, with no clear, to give it the feel of a old acrylic lacquer metallic. 1958 Edsel Custom by CCCP Digital Studio, on Flickr
