Terrible Kits You Love!
Lovefordgalaxie replied to Chuck Most's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
About the Testors '48 Ford, there is a curious detail on the box top that made me think I was going to fail building it. The model pictured has the "mylar" trim going straight from the cowl into the door. If that door opens, the trim would come with it. So, the box top model has doors glued shut. Very encouraging... -

1948 Ford Sedan Coupe Super Deluxe
Lovefordgalaxie replied to Lovefordgalaxie's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Happy new year gentlemen!! Started 2017 well, and went building early. Painted all the parts i'm going to use on my Ford. The engine was painted with enamel, so I'll only finish detailing it around Tuesday afternoon. Interior paint is in new for 1948 solid color (no stripes) blue cloth, a very rare option as most cars were gray (with stripes). The window cranks and as tray were detail painted with Model Master chrome silver enamel. Hate to foil window cranks... If I can't play with it, while doing flathead V8 sounds with my mouth, why all this effort for?????????? Revell 1948 Ford Sedan Coupe WIP by CCCP Digital Studio, on Flickr Brush painted the headliner. That rear window was a NIGHTMARE to glue on!!! Ended having to tape it down, and let superglue to flow around it. Almost had a nervous breakdown doing that. Revell 1948 Ford Sedan Coupe WIP by CCCP Digital Studio, on Flickr Out of the box with the Tamiya tape, and on went the gas tank color. Revell 1948 Ford Sedan Coupe WIP by CCCP Digital Studio, on Flickr Tried a new trick on the wheels. To replicate (or at least tray to) the pin striping around the hubcap. To do so, I used my Dremel tool. Took one of the rubber sanding /polishing points, and fit the wheels on it by the center hole. This way I could spin the wheels slowly while holding a fine brush, painted the pin stripping. Couldn't get them all 100% alike, but they look nice!! 1948 Ford Sedan Coupe Super Deluxe
Lovefordgalaxie replied to Lovefordgalaxie's topic in WIP: Model Cars
LOL!!!!!!! I used Tamiya maroon. Very close match to Mansoon Maroon, the original 1948 Ford color. Anyway, I'll finish the Sedan Coupe first. One thing about those new kits is that they have no name tires (sorry, tyres). So, I got the Good Years from the woody. Had to paint the white walls. The Sedan Coupe kit tyres have tampo printed whitewalls that are quite good. Will use them on the woody. -

Hummm. Don't tell me you will paint your woody maroon... Just painted mine maroon today... It was one of that "while the paint dries" thing. -
1948 Ford Sedan Coupe Super Deluxe
Lovefordgalaxie replied to Lovefordgalaxie's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks! The windshield is not curve, that is really just the touch up on the box. It's about 1,5mm too high, but I can live with that. The glass is correct, V shaped as it's supposed to be, and the trim also looks good. Compared to Revell's 1957 Ford, this one is quite accurate. More accurate than the IMC '48, what makes it the best stock body available today. I'll build the custom, my cousin whats one and already gave me the kit... Oh boy... Hate chopped cars. -
1948 Ford Sedan Coupe Super Deluxe
Lovefordgalaxie replied to Lovefordgalaxie's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I for sure can recommend it. The body is very well done. Spot on. The rest of the kit, well it's basically the same it's being around since '98 on the convertible and woody. Only the interior is Sedan Coupe specific, as obviously the body. The only thing I didn't like are the no name tires. Stole the Good Years from my Woody kit. -
Loved what you did!!! Building the coupe now. Have the convertible kit, from 1998, still sealed. Bummer about your dash decals. Can scan mine if you are interested. You did right on the dash. Only the ashtrays are supposed to be cadmium plated on '48 Fords. Previous years they were chrome plated. I'll leave the dash insert on mine chrome. It's supposed to be painted cream, but I like it better in chrome. My interior is going to be gray, with a gray steering wheel, and metallic gray dash and steering column.

AMT 1966 Fairlane GT/A Dark Blue Metallic
Lovefordgalaxie replied to Fast Floyd 2's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Looking great so far. Try foiling the trim on the tailights. When foiling the body, the entire "A" column is chrome. Just like on a '66 Galaxie. -
Started on this one sooner this month. Going slow. More than two weeks on and I have just prepared the body, and painted it... There were two small body panel joints missing between the cowl and the kick panels, but I scribed them. In general the body is great. Mold lines were so faint one can actually miss them. 1948 Ford Sedan Coupe WIP. by CCCP Digital Studio, on Flickr 1948 Ford Sedan Coupe WIP. by CCCP Digital Studio, on Flickr Even the ejector pin marks are faint and easy to correct. 1948 Ford Sedan Coupe WIP. by CCCP Digital Studio, on Flickr 1948 Ford Sedan Coupe WIP. by CCCP Digital Studio, on Flickr 1948 Ford Sedan Coupe WIP. by CCCP Digital Studio, on Flickr Today i'm polishing the body, and starting on the frame/engine.

Don't tell me where you live or I'm gonna steal that Edsel!!!!

Where's the glass?
-
Thanks again gentlemen!!!! Yep, I like that frame a lot. Almost ruined it last year when I took the engine to use on another project, but this year I fixed it and restored it. This time, the engine is a resin copy of the original Revell 312. Made a few of them.

Loved them all. Even the hot rods. Well, maybe not that much the hot rods The Four door Galaxie...

WHAT BUGS YOU
Lovefordgalaxie replied to PARTSMARTY's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh yes!!! That bugs me big time. Another thing that bugs me? A bloody kit that can't be built factory stock!!! -
Nice job installing a Ford mill where it belongs!! On my build I used a Ford 312.

49 Mercury Woody surf wagon (Lowered a bit)
Lovefordgalaxie replied to geetee66's topic in Model Cars
That's kind of Revell's problem isn't it? Big corporation selling kits for a profit and cutting corners to do so because people would buy half assed kits. Not my problem or anyone else's. I for sure won't take the engine from one of my AMT Mercury kits to fix their half ass work, or go trough the work of making a resin replica of the engine, to equip a kit I paid a lot of money for. Here in Brasil, those kits are imported from the U.S., and not from China directly, so we have to pay about 180 Reais a kit. That is more than double what you have to pay in the U.S. And for something missing a small detail, like the engine and transmission. Imagine the amount of money Revell dropped into a new tool Mercedes AMG GT, or the also new McLaren 570 S, or the huge London Buss, just to mention three of their newly tooled kits. Can't tool a '49 Mercury V8? Really? Revell? I buy their kits that can be built into factory stock cars with what's is in the box. Have multiples of their '57 Ford Custom Tudor (not a fan of wagons, so I don't have the wagon '57) have the '48 Ford Convertible, and just past week bought four units of their 1948 Ford Sedan Coupe with the police car big on the cover, and the factory stock car small, and in secondary place hiding on the corner of the cover. Personally I'm thankful I can build a stock '48 without having to build another Testors - IMC kit. Even tough, if one takes closer look on the floor pan of the '48, it's possible to read "48 Ford Convertible", and Copyright Revell INC 1998". They didn't even change the lettering on the reused parts from their 1998 kit. If it weren't by the police stuff, there wouldn't be a stock '48 Ford Sedan Coupe from Revell. They have no respect for the factory stock builder, the guy that is not into hot rods or customs. If it's not a Muscle Car, or a European car, they just release hot rods, customs, or whatever is popular with the crowd watching reality TV car ruining shows. AMT also did this. I really love the AMT Ranchero, but it has no stock engine. I won't buy one. And my favorite kits are all AMT.
