unclescott58 Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 (edited) I find it interesting that first we have Pi day on March 14. Then the Ides of March on the 15th. Then Saint Urho's day on the 16th. And finally Saint Patrick's day on the 17th. A busy 4 days of celebrating. It's a good thing I don't drink. I'd be quite wasted. Especially on those last two. unclescott58 Posted March 16, 2015 Author Posted March 16, 2015 Never mind Ron. I missed the YouTube link at first. Once I saw that I got it. Scott
unclescott58 Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 (edited) I've had a couple of busy days lately. So I did not get to send out to you guys my greetings on St. Urho's day, this last Monday. For those of you who don't know the legend of St. Urho, here is what one source I have has to say: "And so it was that on the sixteenth day of the third month, Urho, voice loud from sour milk and fish soup, did drive the offending insects from the land. "Grasshopper, grasshopper go from hence to hell!" (Heinasirkka, Heinasirkka, mene taalta hiiteen!) said he, thus saving the grape harvest, and the oenophiles of the world rejoiced." I hope you had a good St. Urho's day. And remembered to wear purple on that day. Oh... And I hope you enjoyed the celebration of that minor Irish saint, what's his name, on the next day too. unclescott58 Posted March 25, 2015 Author Posted March 25, 2015 (edited) Scott, do they do anything special there on the Ides of March? I assume the picture you posted is the place were Ceasar was stabbed all of those years ago? Scott Edited March 27, 2015 by unclescott58

Scott I figured St. Urho HAD to be Finnish. Who else is crazy enough to drink sour milk?! Is the surname Aho a derivative of this? Dang...didn't do a boiled dinner this year. Oh well. Charlie Larkin
Scott Colmer Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 (edited) Scott - OK I was not there on March 15th. That is is the forum, though. And I am pretty sure that was where Cesar had his bread buttered. The pic is from a trip to Italy in 2007 at the end of march so we missed any festivities. What is amazing is that the forum is literally across the street from the coliseum. Scott Edited March 26, 2015 by Scott Colmer

Dang...didn't do a boiled dinner this year. Oh well. Charlie Larkin I am of Finnish decent. (I'm half Finn and half Norweigan. And someday hope they Finnish the other half!) But, my last name has no relationship to Saint Urho's at all. The Finns just seem to like names and other words that start with, and have a lots of vowels in them. By the way, "Aho" in Finnish means "a clearing in the woods." A lot of Finnish people got their last names from where they lived. What Urho means in Finnish, I have no idea. I do know how the name was picked for the saint when he was invented in the mid 1950's. At the time, Finland had a President or Prime Minster with that last name.
