Is it just me, or does this build scream "Driver Figure"?

Nice mock up shots Bob.

Oh yeah ! I've got a couple period correct driver figures , one in a driver's suit and the other is just a T-shirt and a helmet ! :D

Great job so far. Checking out one of the engine pics, I noticed a blow bye line leading to what looks like an old coffee can for a "puke can"? Might you plan on the detailing the engine like this? Am still anxious to hear what color/paint you are going to utilize. Keep up the good work.

I'm not sure about how detailed the engine will be , there's still a lot of other work that needs to be done .

I've exchanged emails with a person more knowledgable than me about the history of Mr . Unswitchable and he's convinced me that the original color was probably Carousel Red , which is suppossedly the same as Hugger Orange . I'm not sure it was available in '67 but it looks really close so I've picked up some Model Master Hugger Orange and will give it a try ! :D

TooOld, Carousel Red/Hugger Orange was two years away when Mr. Unswitchable was running.

Before you started this thread, I was going to paint mine (if/when I ever do get around to rebuilding it) Model Master Chevy Engine Red, a bright red-orange.

After seeing the pics you've posted, I'm going to paint it Model Master Italian Red or perhaps Ford Engine Red. Both are more toward the orange end of red-orange than Chevy Engine Red. The Ford Engine Red in particular looks to me to be a good match for Ford Poppy Red, a popular orange-ish shade of the day.

I was thinking the same thing about those colors being available in '67 .

I'll throw another wrench into the mess . . . there were two cars painted two very different colors !

The first Mr . Unswitchable has a 113" wheelbase and was painted a more reddish color , so Italian Red Would be a good choice .

It was wrecked early in the season and Jesse rebuilt it with a 120" wheelbase and it was painted the more orangish red which looks closer to Hugger Orange .

Unfortunately there is no known documentation to confirm the paint colors .

It's been almost two months and I haven't managed much bench time but I have fabbed most of the front and rear suspension pieces and it's up on all four ! :D

Here's a few of the bare chassis . The front includes the twin I-Beams , spindles , tie rod , and trailing arms . I still need to make the coil-overs . The rear uses the upper arm and axle housing from the AMT '58 Chevy .

At this point everything is just pinned together and still needs to be cleaned up a bit before any paint .

That's for this installment . Hopefully it won't be another two months before I make any progress !

Thanks for looking !

Impressive is a huge understatement

I wonder how hard it would be to resin copy this ? ,,if it would happen I'm in

Thanks much Carl and Bill !

Last night I made up some coil-overs for the front suspension . Here's a pic with them in place , I still need to add the lower mounts .

I first made these when I built the Roswell Rod last year .

They're pretty simple , just a few pieces of tubing glued together , a spring , and a couple of discs to hold everything together .

Here's one painted silver and one assembled . :)

Now that's pretty slick Bob.

Is the right shorter than the left? If so, is it because of the I-Beam set up?

Or am I hallucinating?

It's just the angle of the photo , it's not looking straight down on the parts . They're both the same length .

Simply fantastic Bob!

That's looking great.

Very nice work Bob. I'll not hesitate to say this will be the finest build of this car I've ever seen.

I have always wanted to build this car and now with a resin body in the works and your chassis to examine I'll be 1/2 way there. Thanks for sharing your work.

Thank you very much Bob !

I'm not much of a 1/4 mile guy so it may not be technically correct when it's finished but I always loved the look of Mr. Unswitchable ever since I saw it in person . It was '67 (I was 12) and it was on a trailer at the motel we were staying at in So. Cal . !

If you check the Speed City site he's doing a kit with the body , frame , and misc. parts . It's the short wheelbase car and it looks really nice !

Great work so far. What size tubing to you use to build the frame?

Thanks Gordon !

The rectangular strip measures .156 x .100 and the round tubing is .100 diameter .

Hi Bob,

This is really nice work you're showing, and I admire you're styrene abilities. Body work and frame looking real good. I like the early Funny Cars.
