exesivefire Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 (edited) Needing to take a break from the fiddly bits on my 41 pickup build I figured why not start another build, I picked up this corvette kit cheap at the show this past weekend in Columbus. What better way to start it off than by cutting it all up. Kind of going a similar style as my last Mustang build. Cut to make room for some big tires, in this case 19/20 combo from the ZR1 corvette using the cut off flare as the base for the new flares, moving them up and out in the process. Should help keep it looking like a Vette but give it a meaner look and stance. Very early mock-up to see if we are headed in the right direction. I borrowed the front wheels and tires from the 41 to see what it looks like with some wheels under there. Edited March 25, 2015 by exesivefire 1
Xploited Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 It's coming along nice the big wheels to fill the wheel well; will look awesome
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Like it. That rear 3/4 view is especially wicked.
taaron76 Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 (edited) Nice! Tim Edited March 26, 2015 by taaron76
Devilsnake98 Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 That is pretty mean looking, nice work on cutting out those flares.
Kennyboy Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 GREAT work so far Andy! You have my attention for sure! I agree with Bill....that rear 3/4 view is the money shot!
exesivefire Posted March 26, 2015 Author Posted March 26, 2015 Thanks guys, more work on the front flares, and started sorting out wheels. How do you make such a nice cut in the fender? Taped off the line, started with the xacto and finished with a scribe/dental pic 1
exesivefire Posted March 26, 2015 Author Posted March 26, 2015 Apparently I need to tweak those pillars back too...
exesivefire Posted March 26, 2015 Author Posted March 26, 2015 Went down to tweak that pillar back into shape, I'll probably have to reinforce them with brass or music wire. Grabbed a rear shot down there while I was down there. 1

am73grand Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Where's the popcorn? This is gonna be good.....
exesivefire Posted March 26, 2015 Author Posted March 26, 2015 Took three shots before I got a set I liked, but got the wheels worked out.
bobthehobbyguy Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Nice job on the wheels. I'm curious what type of aluminum stock are you using for the wheels.
angelo7 Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 (edited) Taped off the line, started with the xacto and finished with a scribe/dental pic Just learned a new trick. Thanks Andy. Like your Vette a lot. Edited March 27, 2015 by angelo7
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Everything you've done works beautifully. Good stuff here.
exesivefire Posted March 27, 2015 Author Posted March 27, 2015 Thanks everyone, I know I need to get back to my other build soon, but this has been a good mind release from some of the tedious stuff I was working with. Nice job on the wheels. I'm curious what type of aluminum stock are you using for the wheels. I find it easier to start with tubing, In this case I am using .095 wall 7/8ths 2024 (it could be 6061) its thick enough I have enough material to work with and I dont spend all day making waste if I was using rod. carefully carved out the inner fender areas with the Dremel. I followed that up with 180 and 220 sandpaper. More flare work, I find it easier to build up and then take away. Still shaping, mock-up shot with the wheels using this as inspiration for the front, going to try and make a "cleaner" version of this splitter. I also cut out the wheel well area from the interior tub, this way I didn't have to put huge flares on the rear. I went just large enough to fit that big tire close to the frame as possible. plenty of room under all 4 now
afx Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Great start Andy. What size do the wheels scale out to be?
vintagercr Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Andy, its looking good. I like the truck in the background
