Model Kit releases by Year/Manufacturer - Ever been done before?

Has anyone ever compiled a relatively complete searchable spreadsheet, book, document, database, etc..., on model kits based on genre, kit manufacturer, car make/model/year, etc..., in the hopes of research? I know there are several models of musclecars that may not have seen the styrene treatment or may have only ever been released once in all the years of the hobby, and it would really help those of us who are looking for MIA years, specific releases, etc.

I know there are several old timers here that could rifle off every Johan model ever made. or how many different versions of '69 Dodge Charger out there in the wild NON Dukes (LOL because it's such a touchy subject around here!), but for those of us that are either relatively new to the hobby or don't have the cataloging skills, it would really help the community out tremendously. Even if only to help locate that one elusive model year car you've always wanted to build but never knew it was produced.

The Directory of Model Car Kits by Bill Coulter and Bob Shelton is a pretty good source. They published several of these guides. I two different editions of The Directory of Model Car Kits, American Manufacturers Only, with Price Guide, 1/24-1/25 Scale. They measure about 8 1/2 by 11 inches. An inch or so in thickness. Soft cover, spiral bound. I don't know if they're still be published or not. I would check Amazon or eBay for.

Besides the Directory of Model Car Kits (I have one from about 15 years ago, need to get the latest), there is a pretty nice Excel spreadsheet out there..I got a copy from someone a few years ago...I don't know who the author is, the file is called 'model car database_revised Nov 2012'. Seems pretty comprehensive.

Like anything put out by humans, I'm sure it's not 100% accurate. But, it's as good or better than anything else I've seen out there.

By far the best resource is the Directory mentioned by Scott above.

I agree that it is not 100% accurate, but I've been keeping track over the years and I would estimate that it IS about 98% accurate. Easy to use and updated frequently.

Co-author Bob Shelton is supposed to be at NNL East this weekend and I'm sure he'll have copies on sale there.
