boss 302 mustang
Try using the Revell XKE Jaguar hardtop on the AMT 289 Cobra
Greg Myers
I remember hearing that will work. Thanks for reminding us Boss.
Mark
The Jag hardtop isn't anywhere close. I started converting one of those years ago (actually a combination of the XK-E top, and a '57 T-Bird top). I'd add material on one side and grind away at the other to try to get closer to the shape. I don't think much of the original plastic is left, but it's still a far way away from where it should be. If I get back to that, I'll either vacuform it or carve the shape from floral arrangement foam and lay cloth and resin over it. I'd like to get access to the 1:1 top, though...doing these things working off of photographs doesn't cut it anymore...
Len Woodruff
I think the best choice is to narrow and section the one from the 427 Baldwin Motion kit. I think this will be a better starting point. I also thought there was a convertible up top in one of the 289 kits but I didn't find one in the latest release.
Snake45
I also thought there was a convertible up top in one of the 289 kits but I didn't find one in the latest release. I have AMT Cobras in several boxes going back to the mid-'60s (original issue even, maybe? Would have bought that one in late 1966) and I've never seen a convertible up-top. I think all of them HAVE had a custom fastback-ish roof, though (which I've never seen on any real Cobra). Later issues have the front part of that top in "vinyl." Len Woodruff
Thanks for the information. Now we need the convertible up top too.
randx0
I wonder if any of the older monogram or amt slot cars had a hard top I feel like I've seen one .
cobraman
Monogram has the convertible up top but it is 1/24 scale.
afx
I wonder if any of the older monogram or amt slot cars had a hard top I feel like I've seen one . Randy, maybe you are thinking of the Le Mans hardtop that HRM offers. Edited June 25, 2015 by afx
dublin boy
They're all raced with the hardtop on over here these days. Google the Goodwood Revival. I'll look for a link later on.
afx
Taking a shot at creating the Dragonsnake version of the hard top. Starting with the hardtop from AMT's '55 Corvette. I'll create a new thread for the project. Edited August 18, 2015 by afx
cobraman
Funny, I started a project yesterday where I am putting a hardtop on a Cobra but going in a whole different direction. Will be in work bench section in next couple days.

250 Testa Rossa
Where did you get decals Maxx?I'm going to make my own using many reference photos and Illustrator. The license plate on the restored version can be made with the set from Warbird Hobbies.
