StevenGuthmiller Posted July 20, 2015 Author Posted July 20, 2015 What did you use to mask for the interior stripes. I am never very successful at interior painting.Just strips of Tamiya masking tape & occasionally some BMF when I need to mask something with a curve to it. Steve
Ramfins59 Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Steven, your interior detailing skills are top notch. I really enjoy seeing your work.
om617 Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 Interior looks great. Always get bleed thru no matter what masking paint i try,Tamiya as well. Any spesific type of recomendation?
StevenGuthmiller Posted July 21, 2015 Author Posted July 21, 2015 Interior looks great. Always get bleed thru no matter what masking paint i try,Tamiya as well. Any spesific type of recomendation? I almost always get a little here & there but I just touch it up a bit afterwards. One technique I have used that seemed to work pretty well to prevent bleed under is to coat the area you're painting with clear coat after masking. That way, if there's any bleed under, it's clear & it seals up the tape edges so your color won't bleed under. I used this technique on my '59 Edsel interior. Steve
om617 Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 Thank you for the tip. The idea of foil scripts worked beyond my expectations so i sure will try this too.
StevenGuthmiller Posted July 23, 2015 Author Posted July 23, 2015 Sometimes I catch myself getting a little carried away! I began to contemplate drilling out the head lights & using clear lenses, & I thought to myself....."What about the back-up lights?" So I had to drill out the tail light lenses & add a clear back-up light. I'm better now. I promise I'll try to keep myself on track. Pictures are a little tough to see being such a close up, but I think they'll look nice once I start snapping pics in natural light. Steve

StevenGuthmiller Posted July 23, 2015 Author Posted July 23, 2015 It's details like that that'll give this build special meaning! What are those bezels from, Steve?Of course now you'll have to add the missing parking lights to the Starliner's front bumper! Though you could modify the bumper from the Styline '61 Ford Club Vic...The Bezels are actually the custom peices from the Styline kit.I thought they looked more like the real thing than the stock bezels in the kit.The missing parking lights will stay missing on this build. I figured it's a custom of sorts anyway, so it'll give the front a little cleaner look. Steve
StevenGuthmiller Posted July 25, 2015 Author Posted July 25, 2015 Here's something nice that you can do with Elmers glue & embossing powder that you can't do with using one color & painting over it. I didn't have a brighter red embossing powder to use for the carpet, so I decided to go with a black & silver "salt & pepper" look. By mixing contrasting colors of embossing powder, you can get a pretty nice affect. I think I'll be using this technique a lot in the future. Steve
StevenGuthmiller Posted July 26, 2015 Author Posted July 26, 2015 Ok. These will be the last of the interior pictures as it's finally finished! For me, getting the interior done is a major accomplishment on these old annuals. Not a whole lot to work with. It is basically stock except for the wild upholstery pattern as well as an added old school steering wheel & a dash mounted gauge cluster. Other than that, I added resin cast window cranks, flocked carpet, scratch made gear lever & turn signal switch & a set of door lock buttons. That's pretty much it. Now on to finish the body, a little detailing & final assembly. Steve
StevenGuthmiller Posted August 5, 2015 Author Posted August 5, 2015 Just a few more pics showing where I am on this project. I replaced the stock tail light bezels with the custom pieces from the '61 Galaxie kit. I think they look much better than the stock ones. I also added scratch made back up lights. I'll definitely be hollowing out the headlight buckets & adding clear lenses more often. It does make a big difference! The wheels are courtesy of my friend & savior gtx6970! He came through for me when I was in need of a nice set of aluminum slots! The last pic just shows the status of the engine & chassis @ the moment. I should have no problem finishing this build by the weekend. Steve
peekay Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Beautiful work and tasteful choices as always Steve. That interior is going to look fantastic matched to the silver-grey body paint.
StevenGuthmiller Posted August 5, 2015 Author Posted August 5, 2015 Thanks guys!I just have a few details to finish up & then final assembly.Tonight I need to finish one of my absolutely least favorite jobs, painting the white letters on the tires. I just hate it!!I'm guessing some one probably has a simple technique for doing this, but being as I do so few of them, it's just acrylic flat white & a steady hand for me. Steve
