bob paeth Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 I am not the prolific poster here on MCM that some of you are, but, I still feel as though I am a member of the family. Probably due to smoking for over 50 years ( I quit 4 years ago ), I have been diagnosed with lung cancer. That is the BAD news. The GOOD news is that the cancer, according to all of the tests, has not spread even a llittle bit ( sorta like being almost pregnant ). The four mdical guys that are taking care of me say that I am a medical oddity. Lets emphazise the word "medical" and not the "oddity". I have known about this problem for about 4 months but wanted to wait until all of the info was available. The surgery will be performed in the morning of March 5 th. All the doctors feel that recovery is just a matter of time ( short, I hope ) so "history will just have to wait LOL. bob
evilone Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 good luck big homie pull through or ill be sad

I was diagnosed with cancer on one of my vocal cords, from smoking, over three years ago. I opted for radiation treatment as opposed to surgery. The surgery could have left me literally speachless. Have been cancer free ever since, so it can be beat. I'll be pulling for you. milt
Zoom Zoom Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Good luck with the surgery. Hope the following story helps. My 84 year old Mom had lung cancer diagnosed in October '06. A small stage 1 tumor in her upper right lobe, hadn't spread anywhere and apparently had been there for awhile; she had been a smoker up until age 74. It was operated on Dec. 1 '06, the surgery itself was successful and done arthroscopically through a trio of small incisions w/o opening the chest, she had a terrible 3 weeks of recovery from a host of ancillary things before leaving the hospital and a couple months in a nursing home for physical therapy to get her strength back, but she's recovered quite nicely now, no residual lung disease, no chemo/radiation necessary, and she's been passing her checkups since then with flying colors. And still loves driving her BMW Z3 convertible

bob paeth Posted February 28, 2008 Author Posted February 28, 2008 Bob, you are most certainly a member of the family here, & to the car modeling fraternity worldwide. I hope everything works out fine & you can be sure I will keep you in my thoughts. Though this does sound bad, it's good that it was caught when it was & that your doctors are so confident. I just found out last weekend that you're supposed to be a guest at the KC contest this summer, & my wife & I have discussed coming down to KC for it, so you have to get better, so I can meet one of the legends of our hobby! As to being an oddity, well hey, my wife calls me that every day!! I will be there for the KC Slammer thingie, rest assured, so everyone better get there too, OK ? bob
bsoder Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Hey Bob it sounds like a great prognosis ...I had an issue a few yrs. ago but they got me better!..I'm sure you'll be just fine...B
Clay Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Good luck, I lost my father to smoking and drinking so I hope you can beat this.

Billy Kingsley Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Good Luck Bob...I'll be praying for you!!
jbwelda Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 man that is good news mixed with the bad, i hope you come out of it ok, my prayers are with you. i smoked for 20 years and quit about 15 years ago; best thing i ever did was put down the cancer sticks. i dont understand how they stay on the market...wait, yeah i do, its called big money lobbying from the tobacco industry, but i have a feeling that wont be for long then they will just sell more to third world countries to make their blood money. anyway enough of the conspiracy theories (though if there is indeed any real conspiracy it revolves around selling death to people in the form of cigarettes) i sincerely hope you get through it and have many more happy years here in your current go round we call life.
1320wayne Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Bob, I'm sorry to hear this, but the outcome sounds promising. You need to take care of yourself because we are not done enjoying your presence. The SABA club meetings, and life in general, would not be near as enjoyable without you around. Jill and I are sending you our prayers for a healthy and speedy recovery. Take care my friend.
cruzn Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Bob.. Heres to a quick and easy time during this.. Will see you at Heartland Natl's Hope things go well.. and recovery is fast too.
