mikechevelle69 Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 (edited) Well after nearly a full sheet of bare metal foil it's done. I want to go back and wire the engine. I want to do another one in a different color I like this kit a lot. This is the Christine amt kit it was molded in red I love the detail on this kit. Edited June 9, 2015 by mikechevelle69
72 Charger Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Nice work . Ive just got this kit (In red yuk ) did you have any probs covering the red on the roof ?
mikechevelle69 Posted June 9, 2015 Author Posted June 9, 2015 Yes it was a pain but I didn't prime it just sanded I'm sure primer will help.
Rotorbolt73 Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Very nice work. Red plastic is difficult to paint white. Bleed through is tough to prevent and seal off. Priming helps but the best method I've used is to base coat the bare plastic in Testors silver before primer. I have one of these kits and thankfully it is not molded in red. However, one detail this kit has wrong it the single 4 barrel carb. In the movie, Christine is equipped with the dual carb option. easily fixed though..
mikechevelle69 Posted June 9, 2015 Author Posted June 9, 2015 Great tip thank you and I need to change the carb setup.
MAGIC MUFFLER Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Cool car!!!!! … A close friend of mine built the cars for the movie. He told me he built 17 total for the show. Supposed to go see him this weekend.
mikechevelle69 Posted June 11, 2015 Author Posted June 11, 2015 Thanks everyone, it's crazy how hard it is to paint red molded kits.
Drake69 Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Nice work!!! The dual carb setup you're looking for can be found in the AMT '57 Chrysler 300c kit. It includes the right manifold as well...
1972coronet Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Great work , Mike ! Not to be "that guy" , but this is really directed at anyone building any 1961 & earlier Chrysler with an automatic : the Torqueflite is cast iron ( the 1960 A-904-G was Chrysler's first aluminium case transmission ; the A-727-A ( small V8 ) and its counterpart A-727-B ( big V8 & Hemi ) went to aluminum two years later ). Minor thing that only Chrysler aficionados would spot
spencer1984 Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 (edited) Nicely done! Were they left bare, or painted to match the engine (or something else)? Edited June 13, 2015 by spencer1984
1972coronet Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 Nicely done! Were they left bare, or painted to match the engine (or something else)? In both instances , the transmission cases were bare . The oil pans were also bare ; they were stamped steel . Now the "Park" drum (which dates back to the A-466 Powerflite and the A-488 Torqueflite ) was , IIRC , semigloss black .
SVTInterceptor Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Love this version of Christine. I build my CHristine from the Belvedere kit and put the whitewall tires from the Revell 49 Merc Custom on the kit wheels and blackwashed the hubcaps.
