I was searching for some parts tonight & came across an old Revell '56 Ford pickup that I had started & never finished.

A testament to my "overboard" detailing days. :)

I had replaced a good portion of the chassis with '68 Road Runner parts, & was obviously planning on using the Hemi from the same kit.

Every wire, cable & hose was planned into this build, right down to the tail light wiring which is evidenced by the photos.

I had also planned on the extensive use of wood for the interior including a custom dash, a center counsel with glove box & cup holders & overhead counsels for front & rear with toggle switches & dome lights.

There were also the beginnings of all sorts of other wooden interior parts, from a wooden steering wheel, to door trim etc.

Another casualty of getting too involved & losing interest.

Oh well, I had a good time sorting through everything & remembering.

Man, I hope you get the spark to finish this someday. You were off to an awesome start.

Agreed. It looks fantastic.

Why you were trying to run a 50's Ford on a 60's Dodge is a bit odd though.

Time for an intervention here.....

Steve, put the glue away and go outside into the fresh air and sunshine for a while. ;-)

(then please finish that awesome truck!)

I dunno Christopher.

Same reason people put small block Chevies in everything?

I guess I figured a Hemi powered Ford pickup was as good as anything else.

Heck, I've been considering using a Pontiac OHC 6 in the AMT 1953 F100...

You and I are somewhat alike. I get all fired up about a project, and take it to a point, then I get another idea, or see some other cool car or truck, and start another project! I'm sure there are enough builders out there that can relate. Hope to get them all done, eventually, but at the rate I'm going, its doubtful  For as far as you got on the build, it looks great!

Cheers,

You have put so much into this it would be a shame not to finish it. If your thoughts on the engine have changed and you wanted something different, how about the nice Y block Ford from the Revell '57 kit ? You could put together a 3-2 setup or use the 2-4's or even the blower motor. Their are a lot of good big block Ford engines you could use. But you really should go forward on this, I think with what you have already done you could make something really great out of it.

Not at all surprised that you excel at this type of model too, and it does seem a shame not to finish it.

(But personally I'm a big fan of the flawless factory-stock classics you've been posting and I hope you don't get too side-tracked from those.)

Thank you everyone, for your vote of confidence.

Unfortunately, I view half finished builds in my stash, like this one, (& there are more than one) as monuments to the beginning of my 10 year hiatus.

I'm not sure what you'd call it, maybe a form of attention deficit disorder, but I'm the sort of animal that needs to get something finished.

If I don't finish something on occasion, I begin to lose all interest, and the next thing I know, my feet are up in my Lazy Boy & I'm off on another 10 year adventure watching movies on Net-Flix I've seen a dozen times before.

I will admit, forums like this have gone a long way to keeping me engaged & therefore building, but I know that digging back into a quagmire build like this one would no doubt squelch any progress I've made in keeping interested with the hobby.

I'm afraid simplified builds are going to be the norm for me. At least for the time being.

Who knows what the future holds.

I have to admit I don't read many of the posts outside of the Under Glass and On The Workbench sections, but I'm glad I read this one. That describes me to a "T", and I'm sure alot of other people, as well. And Steve, if building those vintage models is indeed your niche, keep at it. You obviously have the skill to build a super detailed model like this truck, so one can't really fault you simply for a lack of interest when there's so many nice subjects on this forum that you've shown us.
