Not sure if I have posted these here before or not. Anyhow, I also dabble in restoring/customizing diecast tractors. I have a pretty good collection of Allis Chalmers in all scales.

Allis 190 restore:

Another 190 that I added some extras to. I started with this:

Ended with this:

And a 1466 IH I did Started with a rougher casting than the Allis.:

Nice! I've got a bunch of 1:16 Ertl diecasts, but the only thing I hate about them are the engines with everything molded onto them. If I were better at working with diecast metal I'd love to give one the full detail treatment.

Thanks, guys.

Pete, give it a shot. They are a lot easier to do than plastic. Get your parts here: http://www.dakotahtoyparts.com/web/index.php?siteid=313

Chuck, the precision series are much more detailed. Altho, unless you are a Deere or IH guy, the subjects are limited. There is a A-C club in Minnesota that does special resin models every year for the de facto National allis show. Pricey, but many of the subjects only came from those releases.

Thanks, Paul and Carl. Surely someone has built the ERTL kits? I believe there was a Deere, IH and a Massey Ferguson, and some implements too in the Blueprinter series.

Nice restoration work on those diecasts. I think there is 1/25th scale version of a D17 Allis out there some where. I believe that it is a plastic diecast. I haven't found one yet that was for sale at price I was willing to pay though.

I have built the there Ertl tractor kits and the IH and |JD plows. I've never seen the kit of the Massey plow. I've also restored a couple 1/25th scale Ertl diecast construction models. Diecast is a bit of a challenge to work with but the results can be quite impressive.

I built the Ertl blueprint series tractors as a kid...love another chance to build them specially the IH and Massey.

Nice work on the tractors they look like new.

Thanks, guys!

The 1/25 D series was a D14, I beleive. Started out as a mail in premium. I think a company called Yoder bought the molds, and sold built ups, including one in clear styrene. There also was a set in 1/25 with a WD and some implements as well.

Sounds like this might be a good place to ask this: ever hear of a "Power Horse" tractor? evidently they had controls that could be hooked to the reins of a wagon or farm equipment and replace a team or horses. I saw one in a museum sort of place in Utah this April and then a less restored one out in a field a few miles from the restored one. I had never noticed one before but it looks like a heavy duty machine but was very very compact. here are a couple pics I took.

ever since I saw these, I have been wondering if there was a model of one available or at least a starting point for making one. anyone got any suggestions?

by the way the original owner of the restored one mentioned above was also the first owner of a Ford V8 in the valley. must have been a 32 with a flattie. whoever composed the informational sign (wish I had taken a pic of it) mentioned it was "very fast".

I totally love Utah.

I saw one of those Power Horse tractors up in Dover-Foxcroft. There's a place up there that's like a tractor salvage yard. Go in the building, tell the guy what you're looking for, and he'll write it down. Then you across the road to the yard, pick the part, come back and buy it.

The sheet metal and engine are clearly Allis Chalmers. Depending on the scale that you are wanting to build, an Allis Chalmers B, C, or CA would be a starting point. You could possibly fabricate the running gear out of styrene. You can get the B, C, and CA in 1/16th die cast. You could possibly build off of those, or use them to cast resin for your purposes. They may be available in other scales as well, but not sure. Hope this helps.

According to what I've found out about them, they were built around the Allis-Chalmers B.

thanks for the info and for that video. I would almost guess that vid was taken at the tractor museum in Woodland California, it looks kind of familiar. any other tips on building or buying a scale model appreciated.

On the topic at hand, I do have the Ertl John Deere tractor, John Deere Backhoe, Massey Ferguson tractor, and the Cat bulldozer in my collection. I've started on the 2 tractor and the backhoe, but nowhere near finished with them. I also have a rather sizable collection of 1/64 scale Ertl and Scale Models tractors, plus a few 1/16 tractors. There's a couple of 1/25 scale pieces in there, too, a '60s vintage John Deere lawn tractor, and a Melroe (Bobcat) skid steer loader.

Last count, there's something like around 300 or so in 1/64.
