I said I should get busy on this one. so I guess I took myself seriously, and I did. Here's the body painted in Duplicolor GM Light Blue Metallic. I foiled the Galaxie script on the trunk with gold foil, as well as the incorrect Sunliner scripts on the fenders. I plan to do the stars on the B pillars in gold, as well. The F-O-R-D lettering on the hood was done with chrome. I'll sand the paint off, after a bit of a snooze. I'll mask the portions of the interior that will remain white, and spray a second color on, though I'm not sure just yet what that'll be. The kit had no chassis, so I used the one from the AMT ' 60 Starliner. It still needs a wee bit of trimming, and it'll take some gluin' and clampin' come final assembly, but I can make it work. The powertrain and all the bottom bits are going to come from the same kit. but the car will be wearing some Torque Thrusts, wider tires and have an ever so slight rake at the back.

Thanks for your interest, folks. I scratched the scripts clean, and added the clear, earlier today. Mist, mist, wet ,wetter. Four coats of Tamiya TS-13, in all. I'll have to put some shims at the back of the tub, so it can't move up higher in to the body than in needs to sit, before I glue the tub in place. I trimmed the front of the chassis to where everything fits, so all in all I'm not anticipating any issues. I also got the firewall painted, so now while I waffle over the main interior color, I guess I'll start painting/building the engine. ;)

I like this.

Thanks, I'm growing rather fond of it myself.

Haven't got alot done, mainly because I didn't want to mess up the paint job. I haven't painted too many resin bodies, so I'm always leary of getting the paint to stick properly. I've had zero issues in that regard, so I wasn't about to rush the polishing process, either. But here it is buffed to a nice shine, using 6000, 8000 and then 12000 micromesh cloths. I was hoping my new shipment of foil would have arrived by now, but I was itching to get started so I used what I have on hand. I couldn't get my ancient gold foil to stick worth a hill of beans, so I hand painted the stars on the B pillar with Vallejo gold.

After thinking about it a bit, I decided against leaving part of the interior white. So I sprayed it body color, and used Vallejo Andrea Blue for the seat inserts. Hopefully this one doesn't take me a whole lot longer, as I'm itching to start the ' 71 Ranger. ;)

Jumped up and down yesterday 'cause my shipment of foil arrived. Alas, it was the wrong stuff. Three sheets of ultra brite chrome, instead of just regular chrome. I'll have to find some room in the fridge to store the stuff, 'cause I know from experience it doesn't age well. So, I just used the sheet of chrome I have to finish off the rest of the body. Now to do the foiling/detailing on the interior, finish the engine and start assembly. Soon . . . . . . soon.

That looks really good. My Grandmother had a '61 4 door sedan in a color close to that. I may do a model of her car, as I have a derelict convertible and a derelict coupe. I have to make a decision between the sedan and a Country Squire wagon.

Looking very nice.

I'd like to see if I can find my copy of Car Model magazine from 1998-99 that had the information about how to fix the AMT '61 interior from the '60. Wasn't too tough a job, but does take a little doing to saw the interior tub apart.

That blue looks so nice on that car- perfect color for this.

Fordguy to my rescue, and even though the cranky post office dude told him six to eight weeks, it was less than two. Thank you, Roy!

Here's the body with the vacuform front and rear windshields in place. The front one gave me some anguish, so I snipped off the part for the vent windows and just used some clear sheet styrene. Not a beautiful fit, but it'll do. I added pieces of two cotton swabs to the underside, so the interior tub sits exactly where it needs to The interior is finished, just a simple looking treatment with some foil, black stain and wash for the dash surround, and some paint on the switches. The steering wheel is the resin one from the kit, mated to a shortened ' 60 column. The gearshift on the column looks a little more natural, since there's only two pedals molded to the floor. We'll just pretend it's an automatic. ;)

And here's the chassis, engine in place and the front suspension wearing some Torque Thrusts. Hope to have more, soon!

The Starliner is looking great! Very nice color and I really like the wheels and tires you've chosen!

With you and Steve G. building these my Starliner is getting restless shut up in its box!

So here's the front and back end on, the fenders spears, and the body and chassis stuck together. I used some superglue, and it seem to be holding well. Now I'll add the exhaust, drive shaft, rear end, etc. and hopefully get it to sit just right, without any parts popping off! ;)

Looking good!

You do realize of course, that it won't "go" without a rear axle. :D

Steve

Well, the rear axle wouldn't have stayed there if I'd glued it on first. That much I do know, since I don't have the luxury of a vintage AMT chassis in this case. And yes, they are a luxury. Only one way you can "screw" those things up, and no guess work. When I have to measure, cut, saw, trim and heaven forbid superglue chassis parts for a build, that's the part of modeling that kinda scares me. When it actually works, it scares me even more. The gas tank stuck too far down, so I just used the bottom half of it. The rear axle blocks are the leftover drag parts from a Revell ' 62 Impala. Then I had to check how it sat. Okay, got that. ;)

Thanks, mm. The ' 60 chassis was the only that even came close to fitting, without a huge gap along the sides. Even so, this one required some careful bonding. Now that I know it sits right, I can leisurely glue on the exhaust, and attach the rear axle and shocks permanently. Then finish the underhood details, and stick all the bobbles on the outside. That's the plan, anyway.
