mustang1989 Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 (edited) I started this over in the General Modeling section because I couldn't remember which kit this was. Thanks to those who replied and helped me find out just what this one was. I'll be taking this from its current state back to the way it was when I first got through with it some 30 years ago. First will come the clean up, then replacement of the headlights that have long since been knocked off and the installation of the windows. Also I'll be re-conditioning / replacing some of the parts that were damaged from heat along the way like the front tires. The parts will be coming from a spare kit that I picked up this morning. The end result is to not re-vamp this thing but merely to put it back to an original build state and then put it in my display case.  I drove 500 miles visit with family and pick this up from my parents house over the 4th of July weekend and its the last of 5 models from that room that I have rescued. The other 4 were under the protection of display cases so they didn't fare this badly. What you are looking at is a model that's been exposed to 30 years of dust and North Texas 95+ degree heat in the back room of my parents house that has no climate control of any kind.  So with that. I'll get started  Baseline pics:   Edited August 17, 2015 by mustang1989
mustang1989 Posted July 6, 2015 Author Posted July 6, 2015 Thanks Kevin! Daniel: Yes siree! That is a clear hood. It's hard to tell though.
Foxer Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 I heard the hood was a never fit right piece in this kit .. but you're seems to be fitting pretty well .. hmmm
mustang1989 Posted July 6, 2015 Author Posted July 6, 2015 I must have gotten lucky because I sure didn't have the patience or the skills back then to iron things like that out. lol
MAGIC MUFFLER Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 What a great looking Gasser. Looking forward to seeing the cleanup & resto job!!
mustang1989 Posted July 7, 2015 Author Posted July 7, 2015 (edited) Billy: Thanks bud! Stephen: Physically yes but I'm hoping for the best under all that dust. Edited July 7, 2015 by mustang1989
mustang1989 Posted July 7, 2015 Author Posted July 7, 2015 (edited) More pics after taking it all apart. I was surprised at all the dust that had collected in the interior.... I may change that supercharger intake out. I think I have something that will work and look somewhat better... Here's the original glass hood after cleaning all the dust and grime off, shaving some excess flash off and dipping into Future: Edited July 7, 2015 by mustang1989
Sledsel Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Put the windows in and put it in a case as-is. Looks like a barn find
72 Charger Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 That Stovebolt looks like a proper barn find . If you need some parts give me a shout I have 2 in bits
mustang1989 Posted July 7, 2015 Author Posted July 7, 2015 Thanks Andy and Dave. I thought about the barn find look a lot but wanted to see her as I built it years ago. About the only thing I'll do is replace the front tires, headlights that are now missing and a few nick nacks here and there. I'm not going to do the same thing I did to my 70 Dodge Challenger that I built here with going all out just because I wanted this one to be as it was back then.
jsc Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 It looks like you did a pretty good job "back in the day"! Have fun with this one!
mustang1989 Posted July 7, 2015 Author Posted July 7, 2015 John: Thank you. I've gotta say my modeling skills back then were pretty much a "shake and bake" style. Al: LOL!!!
Greg Myers Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Lucky the tires didn't melt the wheels I'd keep it as is, you can get another if you just gotta build one.
mustang1989 Posted July 7, 2015 Author Posted July 7, 2015 Thanks Greg! Dude I'll tell ya....it's gonna take me a lot less time to do what I want to do with this build than it would if I started over. LOL! I'm buiding a 56 Ford F-100 now that I've been on now for about 4 months already and there's another 4 months to go at least. There aint no way I'm about to start another build right now.
mustang1989 Posted July 8, 2015 Author Posted July 8, 2015 (edited) Here we go. This is just after a washing with mild soap and warm water with everything nice and clean. and here is a day later after polishing with Novus #2 and then I hit it with Novus #1. I was shocked really because the original paint didn't look like this! and a shot of the rear of the body.... As one can plainly see, paint coverage wasn't a strong point of mine back then. lol more on the way........... Edited July 8, 2015 by mustang1989
thatz4u Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Joe, I kinda miss the patina, nice restoration, keep it going.
promoman Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Looks good. Your lucky the car was still there, my nephews killed a lot of my models and promos and what they did not get, my Mom threw out the rest.
72 Charger Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Looking good Joe . Its amazing what a bit of a wash and polish will do for an old build .
