Big John Posted June 2, 2021 Posted June 2, 2021 Cool! I didn't know that Aurora had parts packs. They look like 70's era sets, what with the Doug Nash tranny and multi disc clutches.
Greg Myers Posted June 2, 2021 Posted June 2, 2021 The 427 Ford is 1/25th scale, same as parts packs. the other two, the Aurora Racing Sceans are 1/16th scale.
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 2, 2021 Posted June 2, 2021 Here's a crate car to putcher crate engine in... 1
OldNYJim Posted June 2, 2021 Posted June 2, 2021 With the timber prices as they are now, that car's probably worth Veyron money ?

Kenmojr Posted February 26, 2023 Posted February 26, 2023 Both GM and Ford are selling electric crate motors. I wonder how they will go over with the hot rod and classic car crowd. I think it will be a cold day in August before I replace the 327 in my 60 Vette with some electric contraption. https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-9000-MACHE https://www.chevrolet.com/performance-parts/electrification Webb Motorworks in British Columbia are converting classic cars and hot rods to electric. https://www.webbmotorworks.com/ I do not like the direction the future of hot rodding is going, but it is better than having it die off. 1
oldcarfan Posted January 15, 2024 Posted January 15, 2024 This thread was a while back, but in the current day of 3D printed engines, we have a raft of options. HOwever, if you are buying a kit to part out the engine, then one of the first answers is probably the best. '5.0 in the Revell 32 Fords as a "crate motor". Also the SBC with Tremec in the Rat Roaster'. Both of those engines represents what you would have bought from a crate motor supplier 10-20 years ago. As for today, Texas3D and Iceman Collections among others provide some really nice options. I just ordered a twin turbo Boss 5.0 to go with my Cannonball entry. 1
bobss396 Posted January 15, 2024 Posted January 15, 2024 I've been stealing engines from NASCAR kits for a long time now. They look good in almost anything. A guy in my club does slot cars and sells parts he doesn't use. I grab up any 427 Chevy I see, also 409 Chevies and 427 Fords. The ones in the '65 & '66 Ford kits are nice.
mvadrag Posted August 18 Posted August 18 (edited) I stumbled upon this thread yesterday, and I agree that 3D printed engines are very nice options for adding to your build. But, I prefer styrene plastic and years ago a friend of mine bought out the used kits from a slot car track that was closing down. There were lots of engine and chassis parts but no bodies. I snagged all the GM kits and sold engine kit baggies on eBay to generate extra model money. They all sold quickly and included multiples of: Monogram 1993 Chevrolet Z28 Camaro GM LT1 5.7L Engine Revell 1999 Chevrolet Z28 Camaro GM LS1 5.7L Engine Revell 2005 Chevrolet Corvette C6 LS2 5.7L Engine Revell 2001 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 LS6 5.7L Engine AMT 1966 Chevrolet Nova 327 Engine and Stand AMT 1995 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 GM LT5 5.7L Engine AMT 1994 Pontiac Firebird GTA Buick Turbo 231 V6 Engine AMT 1966 Chevrolet Nova “Resto Rod” V8 Engine Edited August 19 by mvadrag
