oldcarfan Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 I love trailers and have built quite a few, but these are the only ones I have photos of. The orange one is modeled after the U-Haul one that came with the original AMT Chevy Nova. The purple one was converted to stock from the Monogram '36 Ford street rod kit and the teardrop is made from model airplane Birch plywood, stained and clear coated. They are really so simple to build and add a lot to your collection.
disabled modeler Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 Gary...there nice! I love trailers too...u-haul,campers are my favorites...wish I had more of them or some model company would make more of them.
wayne swayze Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 Love'em!They look terrific! Should get back on mine.
slusher Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Great trailers. i always wanted a tear drop trailer..
misterNNL Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 Do you have any in progress photos of the wooden teardrop?I would appreciate seeing them posted here for reference while I am building a series of camper trailers.
oldcarfan Posted May 12, 2016 Author Posted May 12, 2016 Sorry, I built the teardrop in about 4 hours one saturday when I was bored. I am thinking of doing another one.
oldcarfan Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 If it helps, I can give some details. I was trying to do it as a woodie, so I used thin model plywood, but you can use styrene as well, since a lot of them were built from aluminum sheet or plywood or whatever was at hand. I drew the plans freehand from a picture in an old magazine. They are really simple to make, basically a box with a curved top. I drew mine to be 4x8 feet, but some were longer. The fenders can be from an old car or store bought boat fenders or homemade. This is a grab from Google search, but can be blown up to scale easily enough. This is a paper kit, but could also be used as a pattern. I am working on another and hope to do a feature sometime in the future.
misterNNL Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Thanks Gary.Your wooden teardrop inspired me to build one last month..I used a tracing of the rear fender profile from a '35 Auburn speedster as the basic shape, made a sheet styrene shell then covered it with cherry veneer and added basswood design elements for contrast. Thanks for sharing.
oldcarfan Posted May 21, 2016 Author Posted May 21, 2016 No problem, and looking forward to seeing it!
misterNNL Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 PM me with your email address and I'll send sone photos of my trailers.
