72 Charger Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Nice work so far I think I will do mine the same way too. Is there any news on whether the hood is to broad or not ?Where did the day cab rear wall come from?
k100 Posted August 25, 2015 Author Posted August 25, 2015 Thanks Ben , I just got my Mack V8 from Auslowe , Ill be starting on that soon.Dave thank you for the comment , the day cab panel came from Auslowe .I was nerves about cutting up the cab but it went well , the cut down cab seams to line up with the hood pretty good .
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 I have a question for you guys , I have resin 1693TA Cat engine kit would this be correct for this kit , or should I use the Cat engine from the snap Peterbilt or Kenworth kits ?Thank you.I for one like the 1693 idea. There is one used everyday here in town that has the Mack V-8 still running strong. The construction company that I worked for back in the early 90s had a Superliner with the inline 6 cylinder Mack engine. The thing that you need to remember that this is your build, and unless you are modeling an exact replica of a particular subject, you have some freedom of choice. If I'm not mistaken, the Superliner came out in the last days of the 1693 around 1980. A glider could have been bought in 1980 (or so) and a used 1693 went back to work in its new rolling chassis (among other possibilities). Something you might consider is putting round headlight bulbs in the headlight frames to back date it some closer to the 1693 era, but again the choice is yours. Regardless, around here things get swapped around all the time. I pulled a 72 Ford pickup into the shop one day and raised the hood to find a 360 Dodge engine (???). The point is that there is no wrong choice. You are doing awesome work by the way!
jacobus Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 thats a lot of work so fari wil follow this one , can look how to make the good one[ have 6 of these in my stash , 4 as donor chassis etc ]jacobus
Bennyg Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 The 6 cylinder out of the amt cruiseliner would be a good option for an early version. Ben.
k100 Posted September 8, 2015 Author Posted September 8, 2015 I finally got some time to do a little work on the cab and hood . The cab is done just a little sanding here and there.
Bennyg Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Awesome. I'm going to attempt to cut a cab down next week. Ben
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 This truck looks amazing so far! I'm looking forward to seeing more of this build!!!!

kevjoh Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Check out Auslowe, they do quite a lot of resin parts for this kit, including the proper Mack cross members for this chassis.

mackd Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 It'll have better look but damage that can shrink the Hood without redoing the grille.
stenfalk Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 This is excellent reference material for me and the scratch building of my own superliner in 1/72. Great model building! And very vivid photos!

Be safe That’s ok. People lose interest all the time. You were doing awesome work on yours. My project that you inspired is in its box. I will get back to it after University studies are over. I’ve got a few projects on the go. I’ve started to go for simply Modifying snap fit 1/32 trucks and some box stock Tamiya 1/24 sports cars. Ben
kilrathy10 Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 Sorry to hear that, Bud... But I understand, as well... I've got a stalled project of my own, right now... I need to get back on it...
ShakyCraftsman Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 Hey K100 If you start another one you can get a mack E9 V8 and Camelback suspension from one of tge 1/24 scale Italeri Renault 360 kits, they have Mack E9's in them. Ron G
