gasser59 Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Just be sure you're wearing a mask Joe when using that stuff for all but a moment or so. It's nasty stuff and not good for the brain or nose membrane. CheersWell, maybe that's Joe excuse. LOL
Mooneyzs Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Joe... I never spray mine out. I unscrew the top and take the pick up tub and dab it on the parts after i have put the CA glue on. Hope that makes sense. I know spraying gets everywhere. Now spraying works great on R/C Airplanes. Heck you could even use an eye dropper or liquid applicator.
10thumbs Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Well, maybe that's Joe excuse. LOL Ha, the stuff even kicks him up to the roof!Joe, put that dang kicker stuff down and open a window in the place.
Nytrozilla Posted October 28, 2015 Author Posted October 28, 2015 Thanks for the great idea Tim. I sprayed the mask liberally with the kicker, closed my eyes, then put it on. It's like a time machine. There was a flood of swirling lights, then I opened my eyes, it was 6 hours in the future !!!!!I'm sorry Brad, explains what? Ooooohhhhh, wait. I got it. Doi.Thanks for the tip on the drops Chris. I'm all over trying that after I eat a Jimmy Dean Sausage, Egg & Cheese Biscuit followed by several cups of coffee flavored sugar water.Just messing with you all before I crash. I'll hit it in the A M and we'll see what happens.
gasser59 Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 (edited) OK Joe, its afternoon. How's your progress progressing? Inquiring minds want to know. Edited October 28, 2015 by gasser59
Nytrozilla Posted October 28, 2015 Author Posted October 28, 2015 Delayed by pool algae. Be on it shortly. I thought modelers were supposed to be patient?
Nytrozilla Posted October 29, 2015 Author Posted October 29, 2015 (edited) TA-DAAAAAAA!!!!!! I have achieved spindleage. Took all day, but I got there. Next is to determine axle length and how I want to mount the front wheels. Oh, yeah, then I have to assemble the spoke wheels. I may be old, but I'm slow. And next time I'll remember to tighten the spindle nut PRIOR to assembly. Will those of you with actual experience at this sort of thing PLEASE tell me when I start having fun? Edit: Reread my first post, so I thought I'd quote myself: "My build will have a couple of bells and whistles, but I'm going to keep it simple ............" Really Joe? REALLY?????? Edited October 29, 2015 by Nytrozilla
10thumbs Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Joe, that's starting to look like a front axle.
gasser59 Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 That's coming along nicely Joe. Keep at it. Each successive one is easier and gets better. YAY!! Another convert.
10thumbs Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Brad, he's complaining now. Wait till the first time he turns the wheels sideways! Then it's no looking back.
Codi Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 TA-DAAAAA..."spindleage" ........I tell my wife you just can't make this stuff up. Nice job / solution Joe. This has to be gratifying to get that behind you, now get back to work. cheers, tim
Nytrozilla Posted November 5, 2015 Author Posted November 5, 2015 Thank you Everypeoples for hanging in here with me. The last couple of days I've noticed a renewed motivation. Here's hoping it holds out for a while. Out of nowhere, I totally squared away a lot of loose ends in the hobby room itself. Now I've started installing my airbrush station. It started with modifications to the fan unit by chopping off the useless flaps. Next I taped off the area on the table to be cut out, which I will do today. It's a down draft type that will vent out under the table, with a hose to exit my side door. I also hit up an LHS and got a ton of aluminum rod and tubing so I can get this front axle done. Here's a pic of the modified fan. Do you think I may have voided my warranty?
Nytrozilla Posted November 7, 2015 Author Posted November 7, 2015 I finally figured out the correct method to put spokes into my Micro Nitro 10 spoke wheels. It's been a couple days of trial and error, but I got one completed and the other is in progress. One thing that makes metal work slow going is all of the trial and error involved on working in a new medium. One thing that makes metal work tons of fun is discovering all of the neato stuff you can find to make it look better. For instance, I almost used brass tubing for the spokes until I found some blue anodized beading wire at Hobby Lobby. Perfect since it will compliment the NAPA colors and it's much easier to work with a soft medium that can be trimmed easily. Now I gotta' find some tires........... As an example of the design process, here's a pic of all of the templates and scrap I've generated just for the front spindles and the wheels. Tomorrow's project is more work on the airbrush station. Enjoy the pics.
bobthehobbyguy Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Thats neat. What was the source of the rim and inner hub.
10thumbs Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Joe, that's a fine looking wheel. Nothing looks more like metal than metal. It looks right.Uhh, about all of those metal looking pieces you show....Dude, are all those pieces from your roof?Does it rain often in your area?
Nytrozilla Posted November 7, 2015 Author Posted November 7, 2015 Thats neat. What was the source of the rim and inner hub. They are from Micro Nitro Bob. He has a large assortment of wheels and 1/25 aluminum parts goodness. http://www.micronitro.net/ and Jim has a FaceBook page too.Joe, that's a fine looking wheel. Nothing looks more like metal than metal. It looks right.Uhh, about all of those metal looking pieces you show....Dude, are all those pieces from your roof?Does it rain often in your area?I'm pretty sure I remember it raining earlier this year, but I wouldn't trust my memory if I was you.Seriously considering a contract with a local roofing supplier if I'm going to keep up with the Metal Modeling Joneses.
Nytrozilla Posted November 8, 2015 Author Posted November 8, 2015 Wow, somebody hit me with an extinguisher because, Baby, I'm on fire. Got the airbrush station 90% complete today. Came out exactly as envisioned. After I clean up the mess from flying plastic and sawdust, I'll hook up the vent and power tomorrow and I should be ready to start slingin' paint. I'm nowhere near that point yet, but I might shoot a spoon or five to check it out soon.
64SS350 Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 You may want to reconsider that tote for your booth walls, that will be a static monster (dust magnet).
Nytrozilla Posted November 8, 2015 Author Posted November 8, 2015 You may want to reconsider that tote for your booth walls, that will be a static monster (dust magnet). Thanks for the reminder. I'm a clean freak and I always wipe down the interior with a dryer sheet before use.
Codi Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 Hey Joe, nice pile o' scrap ya' got there. I had to really smile when you posted that pic. It's a fitting "tribute" to all scratch-builders out there. cheers, tim
Nytrozilla Posted November 9, 2015 Author Posted November 9, 2015 Looks like progress to me. I got the wheels done except for the valve stems. I put them on a mock axle 'cuz I got tired of visualising what they would look like under there, so ........ Now that the wheels are done, I have the right offset so that I can see how long the axle should be. Hey Tim, this probably won't be the last time that the term "pile o' scrap" will be used as this build goes on.
