cobraman Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Let me first admit that the BMF on this kit is pretty bad. I started a new sheet of the stuff and had a lot of problems with it. Now I do not enjoy doing BMF very much but never had the problems I had before. Old sheet ? I don't know. Got it a week or so ago but that doesn't really mean much. Anyway, car is painted with French Blue with a white top. Pegasus wheels and twin sunken antennas are about the only items not from the box. I think I will start buying more kits that don't need BMF. Also, I did use a new blade. Look at photos at your own risk ! : )
Ramfins59 Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 It doesn't look too terrible Ray. You could always redo the spots where the foil isn't "perfect". Don't feel too bad though... a lot of us "old farts" are having more and more "issues" doing BMF work. Nice looking car though, I like the colors. Good luck finding models that don't need BMF.
wayne swayze Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Looks real cool Ray! Colours are terrific and the wheels suit the car.
07Richard Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 BMF was nowhere close to easy back when my hands were steady and eyes were clear. Yours looks better than any of mine. Good job young Jedi.
parkflyrer 50 Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Great looking car Ray..bmfing does kinda suck sometimes but it's way better than than the old days of having to mask and paint...you did a good job...
cobraman Posted August 12, 2015 Author Posted August 12, 2015 Thank you very much guys. It sure does beat the old days of using the silver paint.

Good luck finding models that don't need BMF ??? I'm thinking Cobra's !!!!
AC Norton Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 ,,,,rare to see the custom front end used on one of these.....looks great, and different....good work , Ray.........the ace..........
slusher Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Very sharp Ray, i like the resto mod look. I can't foil anymore,,
Lovefordgalaxie Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 It´s a cool car Ray. From here I can't see what is so bad about it. One thing is for sure, I'm never using BMF again. Take a look at how I make my own foil:
cobraman Posted August 12, 2015 Author Posted August 12, 2015 Thanks guys ! I may have to try your procedure for foil. BMF was the New Improved version. I don't think it really is better.
crazyjim Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Looks pretty decent, Ray. Do you keep your BMF wrapped in a plastic bag or Baggie and in the fridge? That might help if you don't. I've been using the same blade for BMF for a about 3 years now without issues.
cobraman Posted August 12, 2015 Author Posted August 12, 2015 Thanks Jim. You used the same blade for 3 years ? Wow, I use a new one at least on every other model depending on how much I have been using. I do not keep the foil in the fridge, never heard that. I usually just slide it back in to the envelope it comes in and put it in one of my hobby drawers.
crazyjim Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Yep. Same blade, Ray. Someday I'll change it. I read about keeping BMF wrapped up and in the fridge somewhere. Might have been here or from the other magazine. It seems to work. When I go up to Michigan to see my Mom, I stop at a LHS and buy most of what they have in stock. There should be 6 packages waiting for me to get up there next week.
BIGTRUCK Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Blue with the white top looks good . The 64 chevy kits were pretty limited on the custom offerings, kit and parts box raid. Good job.
bobthehobbyguy Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Nice. Great choice on colors. One thing that can help with bmf if to scribe an edge along the edges of the chrome which makes clean edges. Downside is its a lot of work and you have to be cardful not to make a mess of the chrome.
DeeCee Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Very nice build i reckon, the colors work real well with the wheels too, great build mate..
cobraman Posted August 14, 2015 Author Posted August 14, 2015 Thanks guys. Ya, Bob I have heard that but never tried it. I guess it's time. : )
Stingray wes Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Great looking build Ray. I agree with the majority that your color choice was perfect for the car! Fantastic wheels too!
