The '32 Ford Anomaly-UPDATED

Over the years I have done model cars builds so good some not so good. Some I have sold but mostly have kept. For a while I got out of the hobby because life just got to hectic and my cars reflected it. So I but away everything into storage and went on. A year ago we moved and while packing and unpacking I came across " my supplies " and thought maybe it was time to return to it but this time around I wanted to push myself to see just what I could actually do beyond just building the typical model out of the box. Which is a good thing, as I was going through the boxes and boxes of model stuff I noticed I didn't pack everything or packed it well. Some pieces were broken, missing or i had no clue where they came from. So here it is The Anomaly 32 Ford project.

Here is where I left off at.IMG_20150811_134045_184.thumb.jpg.c1f365IMG_20150811_134123_241.thumb.jpg.0d932bIMG_20150811_134152_614.thumb.jpg.6b4b96

As I said before, I really want to push my self on this build. Since part of it is already done I don't really want to redo what I have done. In my mind I have big dreams for this car but we will see if I can get it done the way I am envisioning it. First I want to put bigger wheels so I found an old pair that I casted in resin. Not sure if I want to go that wide so these for now will just be mock ups.IMG_20150811_134449_322.thumb.jpg.86b484IMG_20150811_134505_567.thumb.jpg.09b0fc

To make this a one of a kind........and well because I don't have all the parts I have enlisted the help from this kit.IMG_20150811_134522_364.thumb.jpg.53a6af

My plan is to use the motors from this kit ( once again because I am missing the bodies ) to build a fuel injected tandem motor. But with doing so I will have to cut the frame and make it longer so the new motors will fit.

small update to the build.I started mocking up the motor to see how much longer the frame has to be to support duel motors.IMG_20150812_125621_033.thumb.jpg.555b8f

well I don't think it will fit ! I am going to have to cut the frame and stretch it. Once I do that I am sure I will have to build new motor supports.IMG_20150812_130208_955.thumb.jpg.938cd0

I was thinking of cutting it here since the front suspension is already intact. I am sure I will have to do some modifications to the front once I get the motor in. After looking at it and noticing that the front of the motor still needs to be built I wasn't sure exactly how long to extend the front end so I figured I should get the rest of the motor, at least the front half built before doing any more to the frame.

Once I started building the front part of the motor I was glad I waited to work on the frame rails as the motor is getting longer as I work on it. Since I am piecing this build together I am using a Hemi block and heads from a mold I made a few years ago and the fuel injection system from the Double Dragster kit now the hoses are to short. The Hemi block must be longer than the block in the dragster kit. So I will have to scratch build new hoses with styrene. I went ahead and put small pieces in the hole to support the new hoses I will make. This will give them some support and some where for the new hoses to slide over so I can attach them. I am going to let them dry in place for a day or so to make sure they are secure before making the hoses. With using the different blocks I also had to file down the fuel injector manifold. It was to wide to slide in between the valve covers. My plan is going to be to connect the 2 fuel injector manifolds together with a scratch built hose kinda like the front motor will have. I have a busy weekend coming up but it is suppose to be really hot so I am not sure how much I will get done. Check back and see what happens next, as always comments, tips and ideas are welcome. Have a good weekend !

Interesting duel engine build. I noticed in your engine/frame mockup that there is a large gap between the firewall and the rear engine. Have you thought about moving the engines further back on the chassis so that you don't have to add so much to the wheel base ? Maybe mount the blowers on top of the engine to also shorten it up a bit.

So as you can see I stretched the frame....aaaaah .....well not enough. Guess I didn't follow the rule "measure twice , cut once"IMG_20150818_131311_269.thumb.jpg.8fbb1d

So I thought about espo's advice and moving the motors back some since I had room. Sliding them back still wasn't enough room. Ok why not make some more room.IMG_20150818_131603_024.thumb.jpg.8d577a

Well I marked it up then thought I better put the body back on to see if this would work.

NOPE ! I would have to cut into the firewall and the interior in order to do so. Guess it's back to the drawing board and stretch the frame more. Instead of using a ruler I am going to break out an old pair of my work calipers to get exact measurements .

I went ahead and remeasured with the calipers and decided to grind off the lip on the outside of the frame and extend the new piece all the way to the back tire. I only did one side for now to make sure it is what I want. I will sand and blend once I am sure it is dried. Not really to concerned with exact fit as most of it, if not all of it will be hided with the way I'm going to do the bodyIMG_20150819_124748_906.thumb.jpg.cfbac2

Small update. Got the motors to fit once I stretched the frame just a little more.IMG_20150820_123527_131.thumb.jpg.59a73f

Now to work on the custom body I have been kicking around for some time. Instead of hacking up a bunch of styrene to get the shapes and curves I want I decided to do some mocking up with these cardboard inserts that you get in cases of pop.IMG_20150820_121627_498.thumb.jpg.c3be38

I cut one piece to start with.IMG_20150820_121635_937.thumb.jpg.e8ea28

and then cut it close to the size I think I will need. This way I can cut and curve them the way I think it want them. Then trace them onto the styrene and glue them together. This way I will have a template for the other side. Check back as I start forming the body.......gotta feeling I may need a lot filler to blend it all in. And of course comments, suggestions and ideas are always welcome.IMG_20150820_123647_012.thumb.jpg.cefba1
