cruz Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Been out of the model car building loop for a while but still enjoying your stuff here bro. Keep up the good work, I love it....
Speedfreak Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 El Cid was local here and Hans was a cousin of a friend of mine. El Cid was often street driven to a certain watering hole where "rides" would ensue until the local constabulary would arrive and suggest that fast drag cars and beer were not a real good combination. El Cid looks mean and nasty, but , the Willy's in the photo is beating it out of the hole!
afx Posted February 26, 2016 Author Posted February 26, 2016 (edited) Thank you for the interest in the build. Cut out the molded closed grille and replaced it with some hardware store window screen. The grid spacing is very close to the 1:1 grille. Edited February 26, 2016 by afx

Cato Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 The Willys is a D / Gas car with a Hilborn injector and possibly a blower. It's a total drag car with live axle, ladder bars and probably wheelie bars. The Cobra is a sports car with IRS. Willys can leave much harder. Note Cobra tire smoke.
Speedfreak Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 (edited) It's a 'Dragonsnake' Cobra, built for the dragstrip, no? I'm just suprised to see the Willy's beat it out of the hole, that's all. Edited February 27, 2016 by Speedfreak
afx Posted February 27, 2016 Author Posted February 27, 2016 Able to squeeze in a roll bar by standing it straight up. I suspect they had to do the same on the 1:1.
Mark IV Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 (edited) It's a 'Dragonsnake' Cobra, built for the dragstrip, no? I'm just suprised to see the Willy's beat it out of the hole, that's all. The Draonsnakes were built to drag race but had some natural limitations like the independent rear suspension that had to be overcome. Bruce Larson told me that they had to 'toe out" the front end on his car an excessive amount as the early worm and sector steering cars would toe in as the suspension drooped so because the front end came up so much at launch they had to compensate. Bruce said the car would not go straight at low speeds in the pits but once launched the front tires became close to parallel and you could get it down the strip. afx Posted February 27, 2016 Author Posted February 27, 2016 (edited) Well I’ve started spraying color and it’s a bit of a curve ball to what you may have been expecting. I'm still building El Cid (CSX2248), but I am modeling it in its original color: Viking Blue with a dark blue hard top. I’ll post pictures as soon as I can. Edited February 27, 2016 by afx
cobraman Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Nice ! I for one prefer that paint scheme.
afx Posted February 28, 2016 Author Posted February 28, 2016 Thanks Ray. Since the chance of getting decals for El Cid are slim and none, I thought this would be a more interesting color scheme than all black.
