LUGS, heh.  Biggest lug around here is me - I didn't even catch that till you pointed it out, Casey. Yeah, 56 is rear, 54 is front, Lee.

Man, all the rakes I'm stepping on 'round here, I might not live up to my image of having to be right all the time - maybe I'll keep my next oversight on the d/l. Hate to make a right jackass out of anybody about that. B)

Yoooooo DAVE! I lied.

Fair amount of adaptation there for different m y bumpers, it seems.  Also points up the trough to accept the rear of the floor pan in just such a way:

Those lateral extensions plug the rear chassis in pretty securely, but they also prevent you feeding that area from the rear wheel arches to the back as you can with more conventional chassis plates.  The front frame mounts:

But now I really don't have access to the kit till around 8pm Pacific tonight.  Anybody wanna see anything else, just ask and don't worry about whatever "history" you might have with me - thinking about it on the way to work, I decided I should hit the strobe and radio next for the service cognoscenti, by way of f'rinstance.

The only thing I'm slightly disappointed with is the red plastic. I guess it makes sense that Revell would offer the kit this way. The question now becomes will they be releasing, down the road, a Torino kit molded in white? And will it be offered with factory style wheels? I've also noticed in the above photos, that this kit comes only with a dual carburator set up. Is this the case? And will a future release offer a factory correct manifold and carburator set up? Will these changes happen? And do I wait? Or buy one of these? And if I buy one of these, will Tamyia white primer let me paint the car another color?

Thanks.

To quote part of his review "21-piece 351 looks fair;" he doesn't mention Cleveland.  Could have been a Windsor, or even (although wrong for 74) a Modified.

Yup, Scott, only the one set-up for now: dual carb 351, hiked rear end, big 'n little slot mags.  Revell's worked over some previous tooling pretty good to make for stock versions, though, and 'cept for the grille, all the chrome hop-up bits do seem to be grouped to one side of the tree.

I'm betting Tamiya primer should seal it okay.  Model Master Acryl primer shoots pretty nice when thinned right, and since it's water-based, I'd guess it shouldn't leach too much pigment from the plastic.  It seems to dry tough enough to accept some relatively caustic top coats (but I'd mess around on plastic spoons first).

you're right...the pictured valve covers are what I was going on.  sorry :)

Yeah, I think this block has that timing cover casting that's a visual tell for the Cleveland. 351C just seems like the sexier, more obvious mill anyway.

Gonna stop a bit short of a declaration right now, though. Might try zooming in later.

I guess I've just grown weary of so many things being aimed at the lowest common denominators in society..

Sorry, I didn't mean to dampen anyone's excitement about getting this kit.

NO damping here!!!! to each his own........I will bet they sell a TON of them....the true goal.  And I'm helping....got 6 coming...for a start!

Thank you Sir.  That rear shot is  great......looks like a 72 rear bumper may go in easy.......add a 72 rear roll pan....mod the S&H chassis........start of a 73 and a 72 notch.......again thx

PS Tamiya silver will kill the red in one good coat......my Bill Elliott car will get said treatment.

I don't know why but I've had no trouble "sealing"  red plastic with silver or aluminium paints as a primer or a finish coat.

On both Revellogram and Tamiya red plastics.

While various primers and colors have done poor job.

What engine is included with this?

Thanks,

Russ

351 Windsor.

The valve covers have 3 bolts along the bottom edge and are slightly NON-rectangular in footprint. Definitely 351W.

Cleveland valve covers have a more-rectangular footprint, and 4 bolts along the bottom edge.

One question about the clear tree...are the quarter windows included?  IIRC, the test shots seen way back had them, and they would be necessary as I believe they didn't roll down on the '74-76 Torinos...

There's a radio?   By all means, please show us the radio and the rotating beacon (Starsky & Hutch pre-dated strobes,BTW).

The kit engine is a 351W which wasn't used in 1975. I'm not sure why Revell went through the trouble to tool up a new engine that wasn't correct. Especially with the dual 4-barrel intake. I can't find any reference that the TV or movie car had a setup like that.

Most of the factory built S & H replicas used 351M/400M engines The M stood for "Modified", it was basically a 351C with a longer stroke and smaller bore. This required a new block with a taller deck height making the engine wider. The heads are the same as a 351C. There's a decent version of this engine in the AMT "Boss Hoss" 78 Bronco. Some replicas were built with the 460 big block. The 71 Torino engine would be a good match for this, with an automatic replacing the 4-speed.

Overall the kit looks good to me even if it's a bit simplified, and I'll definitely be getting one. I'm not crazy about the red plastic. I believe Revell plans to do a version molded in white at some point. Tons of info about these cars at the link below.

Besides the S&H livery, another TV version that would be an interesting build would be the derelict one seen in a show called 'The Middle'...(never seen it, but googling turned up a couple pics...)

I have ideas for at least 3...an S&H replica, a typical '70s one in olive green or brown, and a beater of some sort..

Yes!  Don't know anything about whether or not they're fixed in the 1:1, but they're there as separate parts. Think their placement will be pretty important to the way the DLO comes across.

Pretty sure they opened on the '72-73 but were fixed '74-76.  My brother briefly had a '75 back in the '80s and IIRC they didn't go down.

So Dave - don't suppose you might know what the color and code is for the paint?

Bein' lazy 'fore I google...

According to the website, code 2B Bright Red. They said the movie cars were painted "Viper Red"
