James2 Posted November 19, 2015 Author Posted November 19, 2015 While using hot water to correct the warp the roof connection was softened enough to come apart! That and the fact that the hood is off center I will not continue with this body, Iput everything back in the box and will wait until a replacement can be found and will make the body modifications again.Practice makes perfect!
wayne swayze Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Sad news! I was really looking forward to this build. Better luck with another one!
maltsr Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 (edited) Bummer . This was looking so cool. My commiserations. Edited November 19, 2015 by maltsr
James2 Posted November 19, 2015 Author Posted November 19, 2015 Thanks guys, sad but I'll feel better starting anew.
Ferbz Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 While I personally try really hard to work through the setbacks a project can bring, sometimes it is actually better to start fresh. It would be great to see that vision you had for that car come to life again. Lots of tasteful modifications. Keep us posted when you start again....
James2 Posted November 23, 2015 Author Posted November 23, 2015 Thanks, it will have the same mods. And I believe I located a body!
djflyer Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 ya know that roadster thing might not look too bad. Maybe a his and hers set of 53's. (Who gets to go topless is another guess)
James2 Posted December 4, 2015 Author Posted December 4, 2015 I was given a donor body by a good friend and will be posting new pix soon, woohooo!
mod3l Lover Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Oh goodie goodie gumdrop! I was looking forwardto seeing a very cool custom build. I learn a lot from watching builds like this, and it wasa very cool project for sure. Happy chopping and dicing, David S.
tubbs Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 looking good James. great job on the body customizing. got a color picked out yet?
James2 Posted December 4, 2015 Author Posted December 4, 2015 Gonna go about this a little different this time...
exesivefire Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Glad you were able to secure another body, can't wait
James2 Posted December 10, 2015 Author Posted December 10, 2015 Now that I'm working out of town this 53 has become my away game. I started at the grill and then the hood. But while I've been comparing bodies I believe I discovered a way to save some time and aggravation. Since I need to chop the top again I figure I could use the first tail section. What'a think?
James2 Posted December 10, 2015 Author Posted December 10, 2015 I used the door line as a guide and the first roof as a guide for that attachment.
espo Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Slicing up the body seems like a lot of extra work and it also opens up the possibility of the lose of structural integrity of the body. I know others have done similar body modes, but with the tops minimal attachment points it will need all the support you can give it. Maybe just chop the top on the new donor and then modify the body as needed.
James2 Posted December 11, 2015 Author Posted December 11, 2015 Well that part went easy enough! Measure twice cut once, and glue. Reinforced with spur on the inside and the interior tub will help hold it too!
DumpyDan Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I am looking forward to see what you do.................so lets go!
Ferbz Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Well done, James! By the way, I often glue Evergreen sheet plastic from behind to strengthen a seam.
James2 Posted December 15, 2015 Author Posted December 15, 2015 (edited) Fitting, fastening and shaping back on an away game. Slowly getting back to where it was but with a few changes. For the better I think! Edited December 15, 2015 by James2
